Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Just a lighthearted thread.

Everything is so down about the club right now (and has been for 2 and a half years now).

But we do have a great club. And there are certain nights and matches under the floodlights and/or on a Saturday afternoon where our club has created a wee bit of Scottish football history to be proud of.

So what are your favourite DUFC FACTS?

I'll start......

Ivan Golac was the first Manager from outwith the UK to win the Scottish Cup (and indeed ANY national Cup Final in the UK).

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Dundee United have played FC Barcelona twice in European Competition to date. We have won all four matches over the two ties.

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Lars Zetterlund  got a winners medal for IFK Gotherburg 1987 against United then he joined United in 1996.

Is he the only player for United with a European winners medal?

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Lamar Hunt, founding member of the American Football League (now AFC), inventor of the Super Bowl and owner of the Kansas City chiefs also owned shares in Dundee united until he passed away.

He is also indirectly responsible for us playing in tangerine as he was the owner of the Dallas Tornadoes and invited us over to play as them back in the 60's

Good fact too (part one). But for part two, does Frankie Kopel not count?

Here's one which someone can maybe correct for me if I'm wrong.

United's first foreign player was Harry Boye Karlson, a Norwegian who was posted locally during the Second World War. He went on to win trophies and many caps in his homeland.

I thought Frank too, but Ive looked up as much as I can.....it doesn't mention on any biopic for Frank that he got a medal although he was in the first team squad......these days he probably would have, but not sure about then.

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Dundee United have a 100% win record against The Rangers Football Club.

The only club in Scotland to hold such a record.

Dundee United FC were the first ever team to win a European match at the Old Bokelberg Stadium.

Home of Borussia Monchengladbach.

This must've been awarded over course of competition as he didn't feature in the squad of 18.  Up there with one of the worst players to wear tangerine!

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Maybe not worth getting excited about or mentioning here but with us having been the wee team in the city then big and now wee in terms of league status we still hold a record to be proud of in derby matches that compares well across Scotland and Englandshire's notable derby matches.

Total competitive matches...

League matches according to Sky within their ,"Top 20 derbies, ranked by most competitive", published yesterday...

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

Only 4 other derbys command a bigger win percentage across Scotland and Engalnd's league derby matches...

Re: Dundee United FACTS to be proud of

That table is a good ane.
We have a 70% unbeaten record v Fun.
45% wins.
25% draws.
So only 3 times out of 10 have we left a Derby beaten.
This to me beats 4 out of 4 v Barcelona.
