A simple post, the club has had a number of managers since the relatively recent Levein/Houston era, but the results and football have been ultimately negative.
To be clear, and it’s not too scientific, but our downward voyage, which I don’t think has reached it’s lowest point by a long way, won’t be rescued by simply replacing Raymond.
He is clearly not helping himself, yet another manager would be operating under the same atmosphere.
I believe the folk who control the club, the ‘board’, are deluded. I doubt whether they enjoy being key to our downward slide, but, having spoken to three present board members at length in telephone conversations this year, I reckon they don’t have a focus or direction. I’m being kind to them here.
In their own fields they may shine, but directing a football club is a different ‘pitch’. They have made decisions, then sat back and hoped for the best.
It’s a frustration: it’s doubtful, although crowds may drop off, that a boycott would make a difference. I am a serial writer when things aren’t, in my view, going correctly. The club’s representatives either ignore or phone me.
So where do we go? Folk I’ve spoken to have been surprised that board members Colin Stewart, David McGrory and Stephen Thomson have phoned me directly following emails I have sent…. maybe we should be bombarding these guys? If doing so, mind you can’t simply be abusive. Person to person, most folk are reasonable. Yet, as I’ve said earlier, they are deluded: they do appear to be on a different planet from me.
We can only communicate, or withdraw our support. I’d go for communicate.

Good post.
There is a poison running thru the club which won't disappear until the change is made right at the top. ST is the one massively out of his depth and the one who needs to walk away tonight if he really cares about the club. He won't.
It hurts me that I didn't really care when I seen the result tonight.
As for Ray, he needs to remember football is a simple game, play with width, pace and get the ball wide and then into the box where there are enough bodies to cause problems. Raymond, this system your insisting on isn't working, go fucking 442 and play simple football or kiss your career goodbye.

good post and you make a lot of good points. The bottom line is that the people running the club are accountable for where we are now, I'm not a hater of Steven Thompson but he is obviously not up to the job and needs to move on. I have zero confidence in him and communication with him won't change that.
Withdrawing support may change that, I don't know for certain but it is worth trying to change things, we cannot accept the current situation
Our history of decisions on manager appointments is beyond shite, Levein is the exception in the last 20 odd years. Houston was only appointed after he won the scottish cup, Thompson wanted Pat Fenlon at first.
I was at boghead in 1995 and for a long time it felt like the low point for the club, now it has become the standard.

I said if he never made a change at half time I was leaving.
Was shocked when he did so roughed it out. We improved slightly but still poor.
Me and the young lad left when they hit the bar.
Sad part is, I wasn't even bothered we missed the equaliser as the result is still an embarrassment much like the performance.
I told the young lad on the way back to the car that even though we have season tickets, I can't justify sacrificing that time at the weekend for that pish as his little brother and sister don't go to the game. He wasn't that bothered either.
My mate (who wasn't at the game) said it will be difficult as teams will raise their game against us. Unfortunately that's not the case, we make it all too easy. We are soft in defence and so indirect in attack. A team of shirkers taking no responsibility

what email address did you use Pat. I do feel more of us should in the nicest possible terms point out Rays deficiencies and the consequences of keeping him will have. Talks of not going because of how we are playing and setting up and not just results. Too long he has to walk and his interviews are testament to that he actually believes the team just needs to gel - oh mah
I was advised by one of the board members to use Joe Rice as the first point of contact: Joe.Rice@dundeeunitedfc.co.uk

in what way? good or bad cannae be worse than rest surely?
Colin appears pleasant enough, but I've got the feeling that he is bemused by some points made to him, to the extent of not wanting to take in what he is hearing.

You maybe make a good suggestion there, bowers. I reckon they wouldn't offer you a refund, but the approach to take might be if many people emailed the club asking for a refund, then it might jolt the board into fully focusing on the state they have got us into, and taking action to improve the situation. A few hundred, maybe more fans, asking for their money back could have a positive effect.

He's equally as bad. Hes actually not got a clue about anything and is a wee lapdog to thompson. He wormed his way into the position he currently holds.

Just an opinion again, but Thompson has more pressing matters on his mind: I think he'd ignore any communication right now.
This might be the time to bombard the other directors reminding them of their responsibilities.

I used to argue with BNBs when they said that our support would disappear if we were as shite as they were. Judging by parts of this thread it looks like they were right. Saturday was a new low the team is currently shite no doubt about it but walking away not for me,

It doesn't matter what formation we choose when the players don't have the drive or intelligence to play attacking football nor defend with passion. And the manager can't/wont change things. Scott Fraser has some great skills but wasn't making headway up the wing and was leaving his full back exposed with a half hearted defensive performance. Skippy is a decent striker but don't lump high crosses at him - that's stupid. Bringing on a 2nd striker was the right thing to do but should've been the starting formation for a team seeking promotion playing a part-time team at home. Briels was having a nightmare but got to play the majority of the game when we had a bench full of midfield options. Do these players give a damn about promotion? The Dumbarton players wanted the win more. We're just another team with unmotivated-go-through-the-motions-pick-up-the-wages-players, who think they just have to turn up and the three points are on a plate for them. If they even care about the 3 points??? That's what Ray has to fix - if he has the ability

Think too we need a think about the money we're paying players and the manager. If a decent part of their income had to be earned by good performances, and results, we might see a bit more desire. Some wouldn't want to come but some would willing to give it a go and maybe thats the type we need
