Apologies if my Umbongo comment upset anyone, didn't realise my childhood drink based reference was offensive.

I reckon if Paul Quinn signs we'll only sign Fraser fyvie for centre midfield position, which would leave us with us neeeding 2 strikers and a goalie
Offline
If he does sign we'd have Fyvie, Flood, Allardice, Toshney as central midfield cover with Murdoch and Fraser also able to play there in emergencies. Cant imagine we'd sign any more than that for the position. Would still take the prince back though.

Quinn would be a quality signing btw, but who'd drop out durnan or edge?? Id drop edge personally as durnan was our best defender last season and I felt at stages he was like our captain, berating players, telling them they were right and wrong

I agree that Quinn would be a good signing, he was let go from county though because of injury problems 🙁

I think Durnan's huge improvement was partially down to playing beside the Edge. Move Durnan upfront !! Created mayhem last season when shoved forward !!!

Worked a treat with Wato, right enough

Is Fyvie a definite signing? Still waiting to see anything official.

He's apparently had a medical and agreed terms. Now we wait.

Paul Quinn signing as well according to courier. We sign a couple of good strikers and we're laughing.

That worked well in the Hamilton home game.
I'd play 3 at the back with wing backs as (a) defenders aren't good enough as a pair and (b) we dont have much width going forwards

But we just signed two wingers? 3 at the back will be the last formation we'll be playing IMO

What's wrong with playing 3 defenders and 2 wingers in the same team like?
Not saying we will btw,but 3-5-2 is a great formation if you have pace in your team and good wide players.

I think ray will stick to playing a flat back four Quinn will be a good signing always liked him at Motherwell having competition for places is good keeps players on there toes, edge n durnan knew they were the main two centre half's every week last season as there was no competition there but with Quinn hopefully coming in means bit more depth and means players need to up there game to stay as centre half, he can also play right back so gives us options but would hope we get a proper right back in before season starts

Who remembers when we used to play 2-3-5? Those were the days. And I cannot recall anything like all this cloak and dagger shit about new signings. Hate this fkn secrecy. Oh, and I cannot understand a club's inability to punt a player if he isn't up to scratch. All bollox, isn't it? If anyone here proved shit at his job he'd be out on his arse!

Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon is still in the hunt for midfielder Fraser Fyvie.
The Tannadice boss also confirmed that defender Paul Quinn has joined up for pre-season training.
McKinnon was speaking for the first time since his squad returned to work at St Andrews and was upbeat about his chances of adding more new faces, with at least one likely to arrive as early as today.
In particular, he is keen to boost his attacking threat, with two first-team ready frontmen and another young striker expected to join the already-signed James Keatings at Tannadice.
The United boss is still optimistic that former Hibs midfielder Fyvie will agree terms, while ex-Ross County skipper Quinn has impressed during training even though defence is not a priority area.
McKinnon said: “We are close to signing somebody and also in talks with a few players so everything is going well.
“Things are on-going.
“We would like four strikers at the club this year.
“We have one in already (Keatings) so I am looking at another two senior, established strikers, while the fourth will probably be a good, young kid.
“We are talking to a few players just now and there are a couple in on trial.
“Paul Quinn is in and looks great in training but he has just asked for training facilities and we are happy to give him that opportunity.
“If he looks really good we would have to see where we are but defence isn’t a priority for us at the moment.”
As for Fyvie, McKinnon said: “We are in talks with his representatives and when we have something to say we will make it public.
“Talks are on-going with a number of players and we are looking to work with a first-team squad of 18.
“We are getting there and I am happy with how it is going so far.
“We are doing a big changeover and it takes time.
“We are still light at the moment because we have around 14 players and the younger lads so we need to add four bits of quality to take us up to the 18.
“However, we have been putting the players on two-year deals so hopefully there won’t be a massive change again next summer and it will be a case of us hopefully being promoted and sprinkling the side with a bit of quality.
“I think that’s how we have to try and do it.”
One of the new faces will be a goalkeeper to join number one Cammy Bell, who will continue as captain next season.
McKinnon said: “We are looking right now and have identified someone who we feel can back up and challenge Cammy.”
Someone who has caught the eye in early training is winger Paul McMullan, who could have ended up at Hearts had United not moved quickly.
McKinnon added: “He looks so talented and I think he’s just away to hit his peak.
“We just need to give him a platform.
“I knew about him from Celtic but we also saw him last season against Dunfermline.
“We knew there was a deal to be done with Celtic for him and we got in there quickly.”
As the recruitment drive continues, McKinnon revealed he is a lot more relaxed about the progress being made than he was at the same time last year.
“This is more my team now – definitely – and that’s no disrespect to those we had here last season,” he added.
“I am a lot more relaxed now than I was this time last year – I think I was giving myself a heart attack.
“We got some players in early and we just have to bide our time and wait on everything coming together.”

Never heard oh um so will wait ti see um play , just hope he turns oot better than oor previous Dutch players...
Interesting interview he basically admits he's no very good on the ball, only good in the box which is fair enough fir a striker, eh think he'll probably be a plan B the likes of we're struggling in a gem bringing on a big strike partner, might be wrang.

Going from his interview, he's not a player who likes to link up play, he wants to be in the box rather out wide! Looking forward to seeing what he brings
