Re: Telfer away

Good news.

Lovely young lad but simply doesn't offer enough.

I wish him well.

Re: Telfer away

Feels very therapeutic all these guys leaving.  The lad has talent but sadly has never really shown any sort of consistency or shown enough desire most of the time.  Still, one thing we'll always remember him for  - he scored number 6!

Re: Telfer away

Glad telfer is away - probably best for both parties.

Do feel a little sorry for him... to an extent, he's a victim of circumstabce. He came with a massive price tag on his shoulders which ramped up expectation. When he didn't hit the ground there was a lot of disappointment.. ..

All the best wee charlie

Re: Telfer away

Looked the part in a great team with Nads, Armstrong, GMS however looked like a wee laddie out of his depth when playing with Demel, Toshney and Spittal.

Re: Telfer away

I make that 11 players gone then. Andreu, Dillon, Dixon, Garden, (Kuate) - nowt official, Murray, Mikkelsen, Nicholls, van der Struijk, Telfer., Zwick.

The way things are goin,we might be able to play the 5-a-sides at Dudhope Park.

Re: Telfer away

I think I can get another 4 lads to beat United if that is the case.

Re: Telfer away

Thing is Rocky, some of the players above are regarded as being a bit mediocre by some fowk. Shouldna be difficult for the Club to get replacements for them then, the condition being that the replacements are a bit less mediocre than the players we've got rid oe.

Re: Telfer away

Happy he's gone. Seems a decent enough lad but his style of football (others play this way too) is one the the main reasons we went and stayed down. The  "Get the ball down and pass it" brigade as advocated by Jackie might be ok if (a) players took no chances at the back and gave no silly goals away and (b) actually passed the ball forwards and into the box which players like Telfer seldom did. I see lots of fans moaning about lumping long balls but the the much bigger problem for me is the boring and unsuccessful practice of go nowhere passing.

Don't know if I've mentioned any of this before.

A new approach from you there, annanarab   ................. My approach would be a mixture of different angles, ball on the ground and play through defences (which we obviously failed to do very often the last couple of years), long balls when necessary (which can be a suitable approach in the Championship), or getting it wide and providing a variety of balls into the box. And so on. It would be grand to see us winning with style, but I'll simply take winning for starters. And as Annan indicates, "go nowhere passing" gets teams nowhere.

As for Telfer, sorry he didn't make it at Tannadice, but I'm not going to get into the way of slagging ex-players (and in some cases potential and present players).

I think it's disappointing the way some fans slate players who are part of a team, not individuals. The likes of Telfer was being asked to do a job which he was less capable of in defensive midfield, than his better position further forward (yet another No 10?). Flood too, due to his nature, tried to rush around covering for other players' inadequacies, which made him look worse than he is.

But generally, slagging folk doing their job maybe isn't in my nature. Apart from politicians, obviously.

I'd like to see a good bit more variety in our game as well. The passing game is ok at times when we have a lead but absolutely hopeless when we are level or behind. We only scored 4 times this way when we were level or behind last season - clearly its not the tactic to win games so why persist with it.

When Ray took up the job last year one of the things he said that encouraged me was that he would make players better. I was looking to see better crossing, shooting, positional sense, closing down opponents, covering for colleagues, finding space, speed, stamina, etc Apart from Durnan (which was more due to being partnered with Edje instead of Donaldson), I am sure Ray can't claim any player improved and certainly there was no improvement in Telfer's game or other departing players. Perhaps Ray's duff system inhibits players from playing to their strengths or maybe its Ray's zealousness in getting/keeping his favourites in the team even though they are playing out-of-position or are out of form.

Re: Telfer away

Watching us against Hamilton our problem was we couldn't keep the ball or make it stick up front.
We kept hoofing it and they kept bringing it back. We were fucked by the end as ray makes no subs.
I'd like to see us adopt the high pressing game. We are one of the few full time teams so our fitness should be better and this should be an advantage. That style is generally more exciting as well. Doubt it will be implemented though

Re: Telfer away

A tin opener's handy. The No 10 that can make the killer pass, the knife thro butter. Takes a special type of player tho, you know, the one with vision, an eye for a pass & all that. But they don't grow on trees.
The other way to be productive is to get to the byline, getting to the byline often results in a goal or at least creates a chance.

Re: Telfer away

For as good a goalscorer as Andreu was I don't actually remember him putting in that many killer passes to set up goals. There must have been a few but just not as many as you'd expect.

Too much commotion

Re: Telfer away

Best through ball Ive seen us play all season was against Ayr away, Allardice througha an eye of a needle for Spittal in between their right back and centre half. Perfect weight on it for him to pick it up and drive forward. Although Sean Dillon's Zidanesque passing is something to be admired

Great post, this social media age of anonymity is so poisonous and people think nothing of spouting some pretty heinous stuff because a player is struggling or whatever. They make more money than me so they clearly don't deserve any kind of sympathy or empathy......

Re: Telfer away

Funny aint it - the number of players that we seemed glad to be rid oe, that are'nae good enough, p1sh, sh1te etc, but some of them at least end up at clubs playing in the League above us.

Re: Telfer away

The clubs are in a league above us. Time will tell if our ex players play in it on a regular basis
