Not one to get the juices flowing but he's going to be pretty solid. Has 250 games under his belt (wiki). Has played in Europe - the boy can play. Maybe not going to be seen galloping forward and setting up goals but he will be fine. Guaranteed he could have played in the prem next season.
We can offer him a good professional outfit and he can be in with a chance of playing the whole season and not being a bit part player like he would at st Johnstone.
Happy enough.
Next up, rb, cb cm cm lm rm st st

Correct. Nowt like waiting to see him play first.

Never rated or been a fan of him, but he's our player now and gets 100% back as does every player.

Googled his old club's forum and this is the thoughts of the fans who were used to seeing him play...

Thanks for the link.
I've gleaned that -
- large majority of Saintees are sorry to see him go
- he's good in the air
- was the object of fans' dislike at times
- mistakes enhanced, good play ignored
- don't call him Thomas like Ray did
- leaving to fund Swanson's replacement
- probably leaving to get regular games at age 29

That was 4 years worth of opinions from folk who probably saw a lot of him. Something to go by. On the other side I ponder why Wright is letting him go.
Sounds like what we need in a few ways. I'd rather have a proven player in Scotland than another YouTube tube with a fancy name that's played for impressive teams.

Five seasons at McDiarmid.
In case my gleanings were too negative they shouldn't be, he's highly thought of by Saints fans. One or two mentioned he was sometimes subject to unjust criticism so he should get on very well on United forums! I like that in 11 consecutive seasons with just two clubs he's consistently averaged 30 games every season. I imagine Ray has given him same wages as he's been on with a guarantee to be first choice left back & that's appealed to him. Tommy Wright offered him a deal without the guarantee of regular football & at the age of 29 that's not for him.
Is that about right poster who knows him?

Sorry lads, read their forum wrong, May 13 when Tam Scobie topic was started there is actually May 13th so these opinions are recent. Not 4 years of opinions.
Probably more relative but my mistake eh.

I remember we signed a left back and I wasn't excited about it and was hoping the manager was going to sign another to play that position, four years and £11,000,000 later he is about to sign for a club who have won the Champions League/ European cup FIVE times.
What do fans know?
Good point. Dont think the manager was excited at the time either as he was busy trying to sign a "proper" left back - had Carey on trial, good enough for Div2 team of the year down south but clearly not up to the Bodul, Sneijder, Donaldson, standards for us. Robertson got some pre season games due to Jackie's inability to sign a left back and the rest is history. Did Tam ever sell programmes at Hampden ?

As long as he doesn't mess around with square and back passes at the back and clears his lines, he'll get my vote. I'll no be too upset if he's prone to lumping a few balls up to our service starved forwards as well.

Rediculas? Fair enough that's your opinion but I say it the way I see it mate I think he's utter shite and have done for years in games av saw him in either live games or highlights, don't get me wrong he might do ok in this league because let's be honest the standard is shockingly bad, anyway hope he proves me wrong and proves to be a top player in a title winning squad, we need to do what hearts did in this shite league a few years ago and absaloutely batter teams from the start and build up a lead to make the title ours as early as possible

Uncomfortable reading for Steve Brown this morning with Tommy Wright taking a pop at the chairman over the loss of Tam Scobbie. TW: "It disappoints me. Thomas was even prepared to take a pay cut but I don’t deal with the contracts, the chairman deals with them."
TW: "I’m going to miss him on the pitch and off. My recommendation was he should stay. It’s up to the club but I didn’t want him to leave."
Going by that wee should be happy to have him

I've not seen him play in a utd top. I've seen players who were excellent at other clubs fail spectacularly with us and vice versa. Unless I have a personal grievance with a player with a player I wouldnt lambast a player who hasn't kicked a ball for us yet. Like you say though, that's just me

Glad to read that, my only real concern was why would TW be happy to let him go.

Two years!!!
I can't see what he's possibly done to justify a two year extension to his deal, if not for his move to right back, he surely would've been one of the first out the door. Even then, he was only OK at right back, defensively sound enough, but didn't offer much going forward.
Not happy with this at all.

Agree, did OK at right back but still looked like a midfielder playing filling in there for me. A 2 year deal is bonkers.

Was made clear in the DT interview the manager wants a SQUAD of 18 players who can come in and do a job for us in this league. I'm not saying Murdoch is the best player we've ever had but he certainly showed me last season (especially at RB) that he is a decent player. I'm OK with this signing as it was always to be expected.

If he wants a squad of 18 what is our squad realisitically looking like just now?
GK
Bell
Long
Defenders
Edge
Durnan
Scobie
Robson
Murdoch (assuming hes going to be RB)
Donaldson (?)
Midfielders
King
Fraser
Flood (?)
Allardice (?)
Strikers
Keating
That leaves us needing 5 more players assuming Flood signs an extension and that Allardice and Donaldson are considered part of the squad.
My thoughts are that we need at least 2 more strikers, another 2 decent wingers, a hard midfielder that will boss the middle of the park and another solid defender on top of that.

Again DT made it clear that 2 or maybe even 3 more strikers were a priority along with more wingers (didn't specify a number but you'd imagine 2). Our defence isn't far away, I think we need to sign another centre back IF we can get rid of Coll.
A creative centre midfielder is a must. Not a number 10 (Fraser etc) but a player who is like Charlie Telfer with a bit more balls and pace. Lets be honest Scott Allan would have fit that mould perfectly.

I don't have Arabzone and I've not seen the interview with DT. So apologies if I'm going over ground that has been covered.
Scott Allan can do one, as far as I'm concerned. Does that make me fickle? Probably, but he burnt the bridge when he left then burst the emergency life raft when he was winding up the United fans at Hampden after St J won the cup.
Donaldson should be nowhere near our team. Regardless of whether we can move him on or not, we need another solid defender because as things stand, one injury or suspension and we will be struggling at the back.

The last thing I want is a player with any of Telfer's charactertistics

Thought he was good a right back, sound at the back and more than decent going forward in the few games he played there. Unlike a lot of his team-mates he can pass the ball forwards and looks to do so which is a very big plus in my books and presumably he can fill in in midfield if needed. No probs with this deal.
