Think we will see any?
Season finished a fortnight ago and so far we hardly have enough players to field a XI.
Reckon we need about 8 players in and that's if no-one else leaves (still reckon Spittal,Flood,Donaldson and Bell will all also depart) so maybe even more than that.
Season starts in a month.

I'm not sure when we start pre-season training but I'm guessing that it will be in a week or two so it is likely we should start to see some movement on that front in the next couple of weeks as well.
Personally I'd say there are certain signings we MUST make and others we probably SHOULD make adding to Keatings and King.
MUST SIGN:
Left Back,
Central Midfielder (who can pass the ball),
Winger,
Big Striker
SHOULD also sign:
Goalkeeper (to challenge/replace? Bell)
Right back (essential if Murdoch doesn't re-sign)
Centre Half (preferably one who can pass the ball + to replace Donaldson hopefully)
Central Midfielder (Defensive if Flood doesn't re-sign but tbh I'd say even if he does we should sign one anyway)
Striker (pace essential to offer alternative to Keatings (who tends to drop into holes) and new big striker)

Probably Devlin who was on holiday apparently the last few weeks which is why he wasn't announced.
If it is Devlin I would guess that Murdoch wouldn't be re-signing again give that we have Ballantyne as back up. Unless that is McKinnon still see's a role for him in midfield which would go down like a lead balloon I'm sure (although I thought he was decent enough in midfield before he got injured. He was very good at rb imho though).

Holidays should be coming to an end next few days, so should hopefully start to see some movement. Still need 8 in and a bundle of attacking pace in amongst it. Wouldn't surprise me too much if we start the league cup with only 3/4 in tho.

Surely not.

The Must Signs positions have been the Must Signs for the last 3 seasons. I don't give a monkeys about having a centre half that can PASS the ball, I want my defenders to close down opponents, win challenges and clear lines - end of. Fed up seeing unnecessary, irrelevant passing in our own box leading to goals conceded.

Are you trying to say that Durnan and the Edge are footballers like? Jesus. What I am asking for is someone who can do the things you have rightly mentioned above, but also someone who has the ability when its on to step out from the back with the ball and open up a bit of space for other players, also someone confident to actually pass the ball out from the back into midfield to a new midfielder who actually wants the ball and can in turn do something with it. Playing football in other words not hoofball.
I am not talking about endlessly passing the ball across our backline for the sake of it. I would also say that I don't want a repeat of some games last season when our defence had the ball and the likes of Flood, Telfer, Allardice and Toshney all had their backs turned and did not want the ball played into them so we resorted to hoofing it.

So just to re-cap.
So far we have been linked with.
Aaron Taylor-Sinclair - Right Back (released from Doncaster)
Blair Yule - midfielder (Cove Rangers)
Lewis Vaughan - Forward (Raith Rovers)
Andy Devlin - Right Back (Ayr United)
Lee Miller - Forward (Falkirk)
Paul McMullan - Winger (Celtic)
MEH
Yeah there will be new faces coming in but I wouldn't underestimate the importance of there being new players from within. Rearing your own is the business. I'd like to think that 2 or 3 boys from the Development Squad will emerge. It's why I was asking about who posters thought were going to break through next season. One of the Smiths? Hornby? Appere? Granny Sukar? Some posters thought as I did tho, huvnae got a scooby cos with not being a baker in Forfar who knocks off at 2 on a Tuesday no chance of seeing any of them. Pish!

ATS is a left back, Yule can play ch. Vaughan I'd be disappointed at signing, Miller too (I was told about this one by Falkirk fans who also, predictably, informed me they have a bigger support than United).
Nicky Devlin is good in an attacking sense, unsure about him defensively - I like defenders who can first and foremost defend!
McMullan is a decent attacking player who I'd be happy to give a chance.

Not excited by any of them Pat.
ATS was good at Partick but seems to have had a horrendous time with injuries and form at Doncaster.
Worth a trial though.

You know what i want to see this season?
EXCITEMENT
We have been so dreadful to watch for 2 and a half years now.Slow, turgid, unimaginitave, insipid and heartless football.
It's been thoroughly depressing to at times only have 1 recognised forward at the club,no out and out wingers and NOTHING or no-one on the bench or Devs to call on.
I want us to have a plethora of attacking option this season.
2 attackers and 2 wingers most weeks and at least 2 other attackers on the bench.
I want us to play cavalier, attacking football and play not just to win but to entertain the fans and win the league in style.
Football is about 'escapism' from the drudgery of everyday life.It shouldn't be an extension of it.
Those at Tannadice would do well to remember that.

1st question - nope don't know what air you picked that out of.
Suspect we are not poles apart, I may be wrong but your biggest gripe might be hoofball, mines is go nowhere passing and especially taking unnecessary risks at the back. The big danger for me is if a defender thinks he's Maradona,or Messi, he's likely to want to show off his skills and mess around at the back instead of getting the ball forward into an area where our players can do some damage. We've done the go nowhere and build from the back stuff to death, got relegated and got another a second season in this league as a result. I want to see the ball forward often and early, if mistakes are going to happen let it be in the opposition half/box.

The day a Dundee United team sets out their tactics as getting the ball up the park early everytime is the day I stop going to watch them. My gripe is 1. Our defenders lacking the ability to pass the ball into midfield (nothing to do with aimlessly passing across the back 4 ala the Ayr Utd game at home midweek that McCall rightly has a pop at us about) 2. Our midfielders lacking the ability or confidence to show for the ball off of the defence then turning and facing the opposition and passing it into the forwards or wide players (granted we lacked anyone who could pass the ball out to them accurately but at the same time if no-one in front of you is showing for the ball you are going to go long or pass it sideways). Dare I say the only time we started playing out from the back to any effect was when your man Twato played (he actually showed for the ball) and also Murdoch played at right back (who could pass the ball). Wato's problem was too much of the time he couldn't handle being pressed which suggested he wasn't as good as he thought he was and he didn't appear to want to change.

Will fully back any player signed, their past form at other clubs means nothing to me. How often has a hyped player failed to deliver and vice versa?

Feel a bit sorry for you missing the league winning team in the 80's getting the ball forward early and often scoring goals for fun, winning games and entertaining fans. Narey, Heggie and Co never saw the need to mess around with silly pointless passing at the back, mind you they had wee Jim screaming at them to get the ball forward quickly.
I'm ahead of you in one respect in that I gave up on the team earlier this season mainly due to the go nowhere passing and the lack of goalmouth action but made a brief comeback when Wato abandoned the script and started passing the ball forwards and creating openings. Wish we'd kept him for one more game.

I always back them.
I just want to be excited though.
Do you know what i mean?
See when we signed Jerren Nixon or Sergio i was excited.
Feels like there's no real excitement or mystery about us anymore.
Maybe somebody will get what i mean?Or maybe it's just an age thing.

No i get you, there definitely is a buzz about signing unknowns but let's remember we had an abundance of them during the sturrock and early Smith eras......shudder.

On the face of it not a very exciting prospect but he has a lot of experience playing in the top league. He did only play a handful of games last season mind.

In the papers, could be a good signing
