THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

Scott ALLARDICE
Cammy BALLANTYNE
Ali COOTE
Brett LONG
Bradley SMITH
Matthew SMITH
Jassem SUKAR

Which of these seven is the next big or biggish breakthrough player at Tannadice?
Or nominate one I've not mentioned?

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

Logan chalmers
Dominic mcmeekin

Both very promising prospects.

Out of that list though, I think cammy Ballantine.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

I've liked the look of Brad Smith when I've seen him play but RM doesn't appear to be a fan.

I thought Coote looked great a couple of season's back when he made his debut.   Didn't make much of an impact when he got a chance this season though.

Allardice looks a decent player but very one-paced.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

Matty Smith is a cracking player, kind of player I want to see at tanny. Quick, skillful and loves to run at defenders. Scott Allardice also a good player, against Ayr on bbc alba he strolled the midfield, just a pity our forwards couldnt hit a coo's erse wi a banjo. Cammy Ballantyne had a good season at montrose, hope he can step up, could be good backup to Devlin. Saw some positive performances from Ali Coote last season so hopefully he can build on that.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

I agree about Matty Smith but I heard straight from the horses mouth that McKinnon doesn't rate him. Ability wise Brad Smith looks a player also. Ballantyne's got the best chance I'd say though. Hardy and determined, something we desperately need.

Too much commotion

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

Can't understand why he doesn't rate Matty Smith but rates Toshney? Bewilders me.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

I am very surprised Matty Smith hasn't featured at all last season.

But i heard he hasn't exactly set the World alight at Montrose.

Whereas Ballantyne done very well there.

In answer to the OP question who knows who the next big brekthrough will be.

Maybe none of them are good enough?Maybe 1 or more will progress well and breakthrough this coming season.

Maybe it won't be a name on that list.Maybe someone like Tumility,Hornby or Chalmers will step-up.

You really never know with young players.A lot of it is about desire i feel.Ability alone isn't enough.

I get the feeling Coote won't make it sadly.Has a modicum of ability but too slight and can't see him ever taking a game by the scruff of the neck for us.A bit like Aidan Connolly in some regards.

Allardice hasn't really impressed me i have to say.But he's young and has been thrown in to an awful team.I won't write him off just yet.

Jamie Robson i feel gets a bit of unwarranted flak from our support.I still think he will do well for us in time.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

WeeDude mentioned Chalmers too Tek. I liked Hornby the couple of times I saw him in the Devs last season, sweet left foot. Then there's Appere, Murrell & Davie. Who knows who'll become a star out of that lot, hopefully someone but these days I wouldn't bank on it. As you say it's who has the desire, who wants it the most?
Agree too, hands off young Jamie Robson. He made a huge step-up this season but is still only 50% up his career ladder. He might be the one so let's back him.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

Wish they would play development games at times and places where I'd be able to watch and form an opinion 😠

Fwiw I thought Allardice did ok in a tough position for a youngster when the team was struggling as a whole

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

No holding my breath on any of them if I'm honest, might be harsh.

Allardice didni look great IMO similar to Telfer back or sideways.
Coote no got enough fir me.
Robson looked better than he is because oh Dixon.
Chalmers ev seen a few times, looks the usual at the minute tidy enough but nuhin better.
Mckeekin hus shown flashes, Dillon's testimonial springs ti mind.

Totally agree scarpia. I would have wanted to see our Development League squad play maybe 12-15 home games last season & managed a miserable THREE. Get them back on a midweek evening with say 7pm kick-offs at Tannadice. We're not getting to see the emergence of young players & more importantly they're not getting to see us. It's important that the young players try to impress the fans too but they're effectively closed doors games.

Is there not rules about having to have a seated area? Canna see FU (Are they still a thing?) Being happy if ST wasted money on installing a wee stand at Gussie when we should be investing everything in our playing squad. I certainly would be livid 👍

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

There is and that was the plan when thompson wasted all that money on relaying gussie. Building a wee stand would probably save the club money in long term. No need ti travel to brechin for home matches .

Wouldn't call it a waste, Gussie was a terrible surface, even 7-8 years ago, there wasn't one person in my team who didn't despise training or playing on it.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

I agree b n t but that isn't even in my top 5 things to spend money on at United.

Plans change - no doubt getting pumped into the diddy league has meant we have other uses for the little money available

Im meaning utd spending money on it. There was plans in place from united for all to get gussie which wouldnt have cost the club a penny.

I agree. Its too late now for it to be built.
Think they should be able to use north end or glenesk for these games rather than Brechin.

I really don't see anyone from that list having any impact next season unfortunately

Heard that Sukar hus been told he's surplus ti requirements and won't be back fir pre season.

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

Sukar and Murrell both told they can leave according to DFC Thomson. No real loss I would imagine... Jackie/Mixu signings so it cant be a bad thing that they will no longer be with us. All the best in the future boys!

Re: THE NEXT BIG BREAKTHROUGH

He lost his place in the Arbroath team near the end of the season. Havent seen him play enough to comment really so that's all I have to go on.
