Just a wee reminder to folk that the documentary "Tannadice 87" will be broadcast on BBC Alba on Saturday night at 21:00, about United's journey in the UEFA Cup in 1987. Something to get our teeth into.
Know this was talked about a few weeks back Tek, but I couldna find the original thread to bump it.

Watched it last night was decent enough. They stupid actors and and gaelic speaking was annoying though!
What did everyone think?

No lang watched it mysell bowers. Taped it last night being on a night oot. Thought it wasna bad. Some oe the stories fae the players of the day were interesting. Seen ane or twa boys that still pal aboot we.

It was so-so.
The bits with actors were cringey and totally unnecessary.
Soundtrack was ok but could have been even better.
All the old clips of Wee Jim stole the show.
P.s. a shame Davd Narey never takes part in these things as i would love to hear his take on those days and Wee Jim.It was great to hear from Billy Thomson though.Think that's the first time i have saw him interviewed infact.

Enjoyed the game clips and interviews, great memories of growing up watching some of the greatest ever to wear our strip.
TEK, had a chat a few years back with David Narey about Wee Jim amongst other things. It's a shame things how they are with the 2 of them, although I would say in a football sense there is a huge amount of respect there.

Never watched it. Question though. Did they interview fans that travelled to the away games? Know for a fact theres some cracking tales from that european run.

They didn't but maybe an opportunity for United's media to do something tailored to a non Gaelic speaking audience and with a more natural feel. The mock ups of JYM signing, players banter and wag stuff was cringworthy.
I appreciate that we have unique coverage from Alba and Purple TV that reaches out and promotes us but I think our media team could add to this and like you say bring in some cracking stories from that period and more.
Fans love a fan orientated TV flavour and story from their perspective best. No sure you could share all stories as some are a tad mental but there's got to be a way to do that and we'd love it.

I agree that all the acting stuff was very cringy and quite pointless actually. What annoyed me though was that some of the clips they used were wrong.
i.e. they used the clip of Wee Jim being interviewed straight after the Borussia Game as if he was being interviewed in the Nou Camp and then proceeded to show the players doing a warm down waving to the fans etc after the Borussia game again making out that was in Barca.
Also thought that they could have concentrated on the cup run that season to - Semi V the fun at Tyncastle etc as that was a huge part of that season. They could have used the time they spent with the acting bits covering more of the games that were played that season.
Final rant - some of the clips they used looked like they came direct from YouTube, the quality was quite pish - you'd think they could have secured the actual footage from BBC/STV.
Overall though the interviews with the players etc were good.
Tek - I agree about Narey, although part of me loves the fact he never does interviews, just adds to the mystique of the guy!
The only time I've ever seen him interviewed was in a profile thing of Jim on Grampian from the mid 80's - I have it, will upload it to YouTube as soon as I can.

That was the other thing that bugged me tbh Slateford.....there was very little actual footage of games.
For instance just about zero said about losing the Cup Final to St.Mirren (even though that was pivotal imo to us not winning the Gothenburg game at Tannadice).ZERO said about beating Dundee at Tynecastle as you said.
No interviews with fans that were in Barca or Monchengladbach or Lens etc.
Justine on about 5 times though saying nothing of any note and Spencey banging on about us being set-up for Irish Catholic immigrants originally.
Understand there was time constraints for the show and it's impossible to fit in everything but i felt the format could have been better.
The Jock Stein programme Purple TV produced was probably better done imo.Maybe because they only had to focus on one man rather than a whole club or season.Who knows?

He does tend to rattle on about religion rather a lot imo.

Just watched it there: enjoyable enough, but the inclusion of actors was quite unnecessary.
And has been said, the clips weren't really in sequence, but you wouldn't notice that if you weren't a United fan.
Regarding Jim Spence's contribution, he never mentioned Catholic/religion in the programme I saw.

My favourite bit was when mentioning Malaps struggling to make the final 1st leg, they cut to the dressing room and players were getting treatment and fucking Ralphie was on the table.
Offline
I enjoyed it but other than to show my kids united v Barca I won't rush back and watch it again.
As others have said, actors part was unnecessary, some of the clips weren't correct and it could have done with some more fan interviews. Spencey never mentioned anything about Catholics, he talked about our historical roots, Jimmy Mac talked about tims going to chapel at the Nou Camp.
I ken this was all about 87 but in almost all programmes about united there is a massive gap between 1924-1959, you always get Dundee Hibs then Jerry Kerr arriving then getting us promoted and nothing in between!

I stand corrected about Spence mentioning catholics.Had a few beers whilst watching it.

Whilst it was worth a watch as other said some details were wrong with some sequences like showing United warming down after the semi but trying to pass it off as Barcelona and Malpas on the treatment table and Ralphy in the background.
It would've been worth getting someone in the know as a producer, you never know, knowing United, there probably was.

The actors were pointless also, they either looked like schemie single mothers or eastern European nut-jobs.

The lassie who was playing Malpas' s mither works for BBC Alba. You've bound to have seen her at the gehms. She's usually chasing fowk aboot we the mikes during the interviews post-match etc. Blonde hair we a bow in it and always wears black leather kinky boots. No bad bit stuff actually.
