We are after him from hibs, strong centre half

Hmm. Left footed centre half. Edge plays there. He's not any better than what we have imho.
Just to put this out there, I heard about 4 weeks ago that Ray had given up the ghost of getting promoted and was actively looking at good Championship players on a reduced budget but was trying to keep the names of the players under wraps because he knew the fans would be up in arms about it. The other signings/possible signings imho probably would be ok in the top league: Devlin has potential, King's career has stalled and maybe just needs to get back on track and Keatings probably is good enough for the top league, but Fontaine definitely smacks of trying to stay in the Championship for me.

Heard a very similar story.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest, our form from Christmas is only really pointing one way which is another season in the Championship. He knows he needs to get us up next season and this is imo why he is getting these lads signed up now.
Would obviously love to see up going up this time but i cannot see it!!

Regardless of what division we are in he'd be a good signing i think.
Big strong guy.
The team next season has to be physically stronger, faster and more aggresive.
Only thing that makes me doubt the move is as LAO pointed out he plays in Edjenguele's role and they are about on a par ability wise.

Durnan has been miles better this season than last, has he become a better player? No!
He's just pretty comfortable at the level we're playing at.
The Edge isn't that great either and it the budget allowed it, i'd replace the whole back 4 and leave Edge and Durnan as back up, folk might think that's harsh, but the goals against column speaks volumes.
So far we've signed two guys, assuming Bell stays and the fact Ray loves Fraser, that means we need another 7 guys if we want to win the league.

I only think that's 75% harsh Davey, defensively we have been shocking at times this year. I think Edge is one of the better centre halves that I've seen in the Championship this season, he might get found out for pace in the Premiership mind.
Durnan has been better, but that's really not saying much as he was awful. I would like to keep him as the 3rd choice centre half, first back up or maybe give us the option to play three at the back for certain games.
I like Robson, and championed him over Dickers but he's not been good enough in defence to demand the starting left back role, we need a first choice left back with Robson on the bench for left back and left midfield cover.
We've not had a good right back all season, despite trying four or five players in that position, if Devlin signs he will be the starter there obviously, if not we need someone else.

What about 3 at the back on the basis that (a) Chelsea will prob win the EPL with this set up (b) Durnan and Edje might be reasonable but together they aren't good enough to stop goals going in in this division far less the PL and (c) although Ray has listed 2 def mids in just about every game, I'm not sure that anybody who has been give the role has actually been disciplined enough to stick to it - e.g willo wanders where he pleases and leaves gaps at the back.

Fontaine has played lb in his career, when down south, where most players are physically much stronger and taller than the Scottish counterparts.
I wouldn't be too keen on signing him, simply on what I've seen of him at Hibs
