Keep or bin?

Keep if the price is right.
He may come on if we have a balanced squad and he plays in his best position (where is that?)

I'd keep him. He's better than he gets credit for. Few vocal boys on social media make a constant scapegoat out of him when there's normally 6 wore performances than him every game.

Think his contract is up in 3 weeks. Mind he's only 21.
Been fed up for years with having players I wonder about keeping or having though.
I don't even buy clothes I'm not sure about, only stuff definitely love or I'll wear them a few times and it's a sure waste of money.
I want players I'm exited about having more than hopeful of but even some of them turn out like Rudi Skacel, Goodie & Dickers on return etc or even yer youtube signings like Darko Bodul, & A&E favourites like Supper Mario, Tosh(nae-available) or Florent Sinama Pongolle'd. Never mind Rodney the plonker and the Eijit goalie fae Japan.
Noticed Ray mentioned looking to sign certain types of players of a certain age this week. He ken's what attitude he's after too so I'm thinking and hoping he's learned from previous mistakes by himself and others recently but has a shite budget and is after taking less risks at risky times and grabbing what he can with what he's got.
Won't be surprised to see Spittal leave and be snapped up by Tommy Wright.

One thing about Spittal though is when he gets a chance to strike at goal it's on target and placed more than current strikers. Some even trundle or sneak in due to placing it and keeping the heed.
For a young laddie he's scored a few in big games.
If he's nae better in his position in 2 years get him punted but definitely a squad player to keep if on a wage that reflects current worth.

He's had loads of time to show what he can do and up to now, he's not shown nearly enough - the odd goal or good performance here or there doesn't really justify a new deal. That said, its been reported on this site that we lose fewer goals when he plays and he's done reasonably well in the last few games.......
He wont be a automatic pick for a starting berth and a one year deal as squad cover might be do-able but that would be the best he could expect . The thing is at this stage of his career, he shouldn't be willing to accept a squad place and should be seeking a club where he is going to play. Time to move on Blair use whatever games are left to win a deal elsewhere

No coincidence hes starting to play well with his contract away to run out.

Its a nae for me

He frustrates me as much as anybody, there are plenty of games where I watch him and wonder what he actually offers, he's not got any real defining qualities, but it can't be a coincidence that any time we've went on a good run this season, it's come with him in the team, likewise when he's been out, our form's went off a cliff. I'd give him another year, perhaps two, but he really needs to kick on and find a bit of confidence in himself, too often he looks like he's hiding.

I would think its because hes not injured now rather than contract up. Saying that, I think he has to work harder on the pitch but hes not alone there. The oldest man on the park is Flood usually and the young ones need to match his workrate.

Of course, if the wage was acceptable to both sides, you'd surely keep Spittal. For all the slating fans give him, we're better when he's in the team than out.
He's been playing further up the park in my eyes of late, thus has become more of a goal threat again. Previously, when picked, he was doing more of a defensive job.
But if St Johnstone are offering better wages, it makes sense that he leaves: and of course, we might get better value for the cash we are presently paying him by employing another.
I think he'll go on to have a very decent career, and as a young player stability in the management department would have helped his development.

Its possibly a bit of both. Seen it that many times when a players contracts up for renewal.

Saw him in dublin preseason a few years ago against bohemians. Played on left wing and looked decent there . I know it was only a friendly but he looked decent in that position. It may have been the black stuff clouding my vision though 😂😂

How has TEK managed to start a thread about Spittal, include a poll and yet have no mention of him as a right back????
I'm calling 'fake news' here - Putins hacked his account

h.
This is right - I always point it out that the young lad, he likes an early strike as well before the keeper sets his feet. Do that and pick a side and it'll go in if it's a rocket or a trundler
From what I've heard he's been offered 2 contracts from us, one he'll sign, one he won't. Depends where we are. As mentioned Tommy Wright is sniffing about and a couple of others may be interested.

I would like him to leave. I don’t think he’s improved a bit in the years he’s been here, if anything he’s went backwards from 18 months ago.
Doesn’t have the bravery to ask for the ball when we’re in difficult situations, rarely beats a man when on the wing and his crossing is abysmal nine times out of ten.
I think if we’re playing well then he looks okay, rather than if he plays we play well.

I'd keep him as long as he's not costing a fortune. He has good potential - I like him going forward. All players will perform better if their confidence is up - the boo boys will effect some players more than others. Perhaps when the dour football experts are "supporting" the team they'll remember that.

If this question was asked 3 or 4 weeks ago I'd say almost everyone would let um go, just because he's scored a couple of goals? Mind him before that? A full year without a goal for an attacking player, that's ridiculous. He offers very little going forward can't beat a man, his crossing is embarrassing. We must aim ti huv better and eh believe he will never be good enough, we signed um 3 years ago and he's improved little if any. RELEASE.

Spittal's development really suffered last season. It's hard for youngsters to play with confidence when they're getting humped most weeks. And injury this season hasn't helped him either. I'd give him another year or two if the terms were affordable. There's a half decent player in there somewhere.

I still maintain one day when someone finds out what his position actually is it will be at full-back.

He's got pros and cons:
Pros: He links up very well, he can play a few positions, he can take a goal, his set pieces are ok, he gets up and down, and bizzarely, we don't lose many games when he's in the team.
Cons: He is one of the slowest wide players I've ever seen, he can't beat a man, hit the byline and put in a cross, he's soft and goes missing in games, he's not made any poistion his own.
Meh, parting of the ways for me.
On balance keep but think he'd be best starting on the left as it allows him to come in on the right. Also gives a good balance assuming our LB is left footed.
Have a feeling he's on his way though.

Ray was at a Q&A with the ULT recently and when asked about the squad he was apparently quite open about the fact he doesn't rate Spittal and basically wants rid.
Be surprised if he's here next season.
