League up to Xmas 61%
League post Xmas 22% (4 wins in 18 games)
League overall 42%
All Games 48% (includes LCup, IBCup & SCup as well as League)
Ray's win rate from Xmas onwards is nowhere near acceptable and the performances have also been dire.

Certainly considering he kept saying 'we'll see the best of this team after Christmas ' the past 4 months has been relegation form.

what really confuses me, is that this should be the other way around.
coming into a club who've just been relegated after 18 months of shite, it could take time to get rid of players, bring in new players, and work with the ones you want to keep. there are probably going to be a few bad performances and results early on, before the new manager is able to influence the group, and then build the confidence from good performances and results as the season goes on. if we were going into the playoffs on the unbeaten we had in november/december, imagine the confidence.
for it to be the other way around, is just fucked up.
this is my view from afar, if anyone can explain I would be grateful

Terrible stuff since Christmas: what changed?
In terms of personnel,Obadeyi left and was replaced by Nicholls. Smith left and was replaced by Mikkelsen. The first was a mistake, while Mikkelsen has come onto a game. But Smith has excelled at Paisley, and I reckon that was an error letting him go.
But it surely cannae just be these changes?

Ken Pat, but who woulda thought what was gonna happen efter the tim 2 left.

We don't even have any great momentum to take into the play offs
We absolutely handed Falkirk 2nd place and now face any deciding game against them (assumimg we actually beat Morton) at their ground instead of Tannadice.

And Ray hasn't managed to inspire a single performance against the Dumbarton, Ayr, Raith , Dunfermline's of late so not holding out much hope he's about to reveal a master plan !

The home form has been excellent, best in the league.
The away form has been shocking, must be near the worst in a league with two part time teams!

The fact we haven't won away in the league since December is ridiculous, defensively after looking good at the start of the season has gotten progressively worse.
Also maybe I am alone in this but I thought we would have had a couple of games this season where we thumped teams and gave them five or six. Only result close to that was when we beat QotS 4-1. Of our wins in the league this season only 5 were by more than one goal, which I think is pretty poor.

You are not alone, I expected more too. The problem (for me at least) is that we have tried to pass our way to the front without having the ability or commitment to do so. We keep going backwards and sideways and make silly little irrelevant passes instead of getting the ball and players into the box where damage can be done. Incredibly we even do our opponents defending by giving the ball back to them long before it gets near their box. We haven't scored a lot of goals from this game plan and hardly any when we've been level or behind in a match. When we went out of the League Cup to Morton, Ray berated his players for "playing a meaningless tippy tappy game devoid of urgency, purpose or penetration" then proceeded to use these tactics for the remainder of the season. The players we have are no world beaters but Ray like Jackie seems to have a knack for using a system which fails to get the best from them.

Not only have wins been by a solitary goal, the winning goals at times have been fortuitous and we've been clinging on to leads at end of games with desperate defending to keep result......same when we've been scratching out draws !
Opposition generally squandering sitters to let us off too!
Not near good enough.

There's an adage that its better being lucky than good. Ray and his team were clearly on a downwards spiral heading for another season in the championship with the prospect of competing at the other end next season based on his post Christmas performances. Suddenly things have changed and we now entertain (some/vague) hopes of going all the way in the play offs where previously we had none.
Did Ray suddenly become much better at raising performance levels, did he become more tactically astute. Or did he just get lucky with Kuate. Love to hear what Preston thinks of Kuate now and I'll bet he wishes he could have scored a belter like that in his non illustrious career
Since Kuate came in, United have been more positive and the 2 (league) games he started were the only 2 where United had more than 20 shots in a game (22 & 23) albeit in draws against Dumbarton and Morton. But his influence is now galvanising the team and transforming our mediocrity into something decent. Fergie was a game or 2 away from the sack at ManU in the 80's until he got a wee break. Kuate might just be McKinnons saviour.

Very good summation, aa. I always think there's a lot of luck involved in management, hopefully Raymond has been dealt some luck now.

Good post AA.
I will give McKinnon credit for signing Kuate though and moving Murdoch to RB.
Possibly an element of luck attached to both decisions tbh.But sometimes in football you need a bit of luck or a break.
We are getting them at a good time if you include Scott Fraser returning to action.
