Seen a lot of talk on social media and Hibs messageboards, that we've offered him a pre-contract. They all seem pretty keen to keep him which is obviously a good sign. Nice to see McKinnon's trying to get his business done early, certainly preferable to bringing in a load of Dutch trialists in the twilight of their careers.

Keating is a decent player.
Can't help but think all these rumours are coming at season ticket time... I'd love him to love here alongside king and the aye lad but not sure it will happen.
Guess we won't see any movement until next season's fate is sorted out

I've never understood this about season tickets, are you trying to claim Thompson/mckinnon are starting rumours so we buy season tickets??

It's not out with the realms of possibility that ST speaks about a certain player in the pub or ray speaks off the record to ram duthie or they tell bowman to tell a pal etc etc
creates excitement without having to sign the players

Every single year at season ticket renewal time as the club PR machine goes into overdrive, rumours this, rumours that, "Meh mate kens a boy that works for United!" type shite and folk get to know about boys we've allegedly tried to sign.
Targets are leaked, I don't know whether it's deliberate or not, but how often these days do United sign someone without it being in the papers or the talk on the forums for at least a week before it happens, or not?
How about we just get on with signing our targets and announce it?
See last week, not sure of it was on here or not, but someone said we had four boys fixed up, but out of respect for their teams with something to play for we wouldn't be announcing it.
Imho that's a load of shite. If they're signed up announce it! Respect for other teams won't shift season tickets, get fans back onside or create a feeling that the board are doing all they can to build a league winnning team.
Did Aberdeen show respect when they announced Tansey?
Did Celtic show respect when they announced GMS?
Did they fuck, they did what's best for them.
If it's genuine that guys are onboard and we're holding off, it just goes to show we're still soft centred and trying to be nice guys, trying not to play the game everyone else does.
Or it could be these are just leaked rumours are more of the 'At least we tried' crap we seem to get every January these days.

How many players did we get linked with in the national press in and around the jan window?
How many did we sign?
These rumours get the fans going and some of the names will give a wee lift to people as tge rumours are going.

They can't just be made up rumours surely?
I mean how does ST get these rumours out there?
It's not like he has friends in the media to have a pint with and get favours from, does he?
Think about the number of players we're always linked with at important times for fan support, then think of how many of these we've actually signed (or actually even spoke too), the answers pretty obvious.
Most of the time it's agents trying to drum up interest/see if there's a better offer out there, rather than the clubs.

Or newspapers as usual with their
"Dundee United may be prepared to sign...
Or
"Dundee United might show interest in ....
Or all the other meaningless similar statements linking any out of contract player to clubs when there's no foundation to them at all, all vague using may, perhaps, might, could and other lines
June and July the papers are full of this and no point reading it as 90% + crap made up to fill space. Dee C Thomson, Daily Retard et al !

This ane excites me mare than Billy King rumour, never really rated um as a player, mind we played up in Inverness start oh this season and he was poor, another winger doesni seem to have much pace and doesn't really go past players, cani get a gem fir a really poor ICT outfit says it all IMO.
Keatings on the other hand is a very good player at this level and probably can play in the SPFL, would be good ti see um linking up with the likes oh Fraser(if still here) and next seasons big target man. Could get us a lot oh goals, here's hoping.

The Tully are saying we will announce a pre contract agreement for Keatings later today. Decent signing IMO (if true!).

What is he a striker?winger?

No 10 surely, that's all we sign so he must be

Striker. He scored against us at Easter Road in October. He spun one of our defenders and scored their goal. McKinnon said he wanted a striker out could play up top but was capable of dropping into holes as well rather than a attacking midfielder/no 10 type which we've signed loads of in recent times.

I would get rid of Murray if we signed Steven Hawking today.

Happy enough, although not blown away.
Signings should show what direction ray wants the team to go. If he's super number 10 material then is he there to battle with fraser or to replace?
I'd love mikkelson to come on board. He's proving to be a good signing

Eh fully expect Fraser to be sold in the summer,
however eh seen an article where Keatings said he was frustrated at Hibs because he wanted ti play as a striker and obviously being kept oot the team by Cummings. He's no a #10

Pleased, on the surface, at this signing for next season.
But three slight concerns:
1) why would you sign for a club when you don't know what division they will be in next season?
2) what type of wage are United offering, again when we don't know what league we will be in next season?
3) why, each time James Keatings has been at a club which has been promoted (three times, Hamilton, Hearts and Hibs), has he promptly left to stay in the Championship (obviously, I'm hoping this changes this time)?
