Re: Development League 2016/2017 Season

Hamilton Accies (who always do well in the Development League) finished with more than double our points and could still win the league. You have to think if they can consistently bring through good young players (a club with about 500 season ticket holders) then there is no excuses why we should become complacent about standards dropping.

Incidentally Utd finished 14th out of the 17 team league.

Project Brave is the top 13 teams.

Is this selection process just based on league positions or other criteria? How is it decided? And when?

Anyone any info?

Re: Development League 2016/2017 Season

The club have announced the formation of a new DUFC Youth Development Board comprising if a member from each of the Trust,Dundee Utd Business Club and Dundee Utd Development Association.

There is a formal presentation of their plans and strategy in the Heggy Suite on May 17th followed by a Q+A with the Academy coaches.

Maybe they can clear-up who is actually our Development Team Manager?

P.s. i have a feeling Dillon will be announced as part of the set-up soon.

Re: Development League 2016/2017 Season

Is it not Brian Grant who is the manager, Tek?

The Project Brave (I fkn hate that name, as much as I do 'Twitter') criteria aren't based on league position as far as I recall: is it not to do with numbers of full time coaches and suchlike? And I reckon they've doubled the clubs involved from 8 to 16, not 13.

Other criteria include clubs being able to send a certain number of players out on loan each season, and being supportive of initiatives which, to me, will bring about the final death of Scottish football (allowing colt teams into the lower league and so on).

Let's be honest, the idea is being led by the SFA, who are and have been guilty of the continuous lowering of standards in Scotland for more than twenty years. They carry out audits which are designed to show the results they want. I don't want to labour the point to the stage of being boring, but as an example, in late March Sevco failed to reach the standards required for a licence to play in Europe, according to documentation still available on the SFA website, but a week ago, the SFA decided that miraculously the Govan club had reached the financial standards required in terms of financial fair play.

What changed?

Re: Development League 2016/2017 Season

Oh, and a P.S. to the above: the appointment of a Head of Football recruitment (Darren Taylor) is, I recall, one of the criterion.

The full time staff needed to get on the Project Brave  list includes that post, plus someone who is into Sports Science, and someone in charge of Performance Analysis (for the youths, not the managers, which was a sensible option proposed by Annanarab). There's more than that, but I cannae mind what all the full time guys were to be doing. Think I'll apply for a job.

Re: Development League 2016/2017 Season

I reckon the reason we have finished as lowly as we have in the development league is that some players are just not good enough and not going to make it as suggested earlier, the recruitment of young players is poor and coaching is poor.

Its embaressing really, Carnoutie Panmure have a better youth setup than us. Major overall needed IMO.
