~ STATEMENT FROM THE DUNDEE UNITED SUPPORTERS' FOUNDATION ~
Over the last few months we have been exploring the possibility of setting up a Dundee United Supporters’ Foundation. We have met with representatives of the Foundation of Hearts to learn from their experiences and have spoken to all the United fans’ groups and committees.
We have been very encouraged by the positive response and that, coupled with soundings we have taken from other United supporters means we are ready to go ahead with the proposal. The Foundation’s main purpose is to encourage additional financial support into the club and to deliver more transparency and supporter engagement by having real influence at board level.
We stress that the Foundation is not a protest group about regime change; we are looking to provide an extra, reliable and sustainable income stream into the club. Ultimately we want to see fans having a much more meaningful input in the running of the club through Foundation representation.
To get the Foundation under way we are looking for a number of fans to become founder members by donating an amount of £1000 or £500 to a Commitment Fund. This money will be used for the necessary start up costs, but just as importantly if we can raise a significant amount it will help demonstrate to all United fans that the organisation is sound, trustworthy and credible before we go out and ask them to become members.
Following these initial contributions the main regular income into the Foundation funds will come via Members’ subscriptions which will start at a minimum of £10 per month with a junior membership at £2.50 per month. We anticipate we will be in a position to fully launch the Foundation in June.
The money will be used to finance Dundee United FC once we are assured that there is a sound business plan in place for the future security of our club and that the Foundation members will have meaningful influence and presence at board level.  Before any cash is released to the club there will be a ballot of all members on a one member one vote basis.
We are currently writing full Articles of Association and a website and communication strategy is being developed as part of a phased implementation action plan.
