I put myself in the in-between camp too. I'd probably dip into the sub-forum and I agree it is good to have different opinions on a forum. But, the problem this place has at the moment is the overwhelming amount of Utd threads which are turning into the same arguments with the same people as TEK has stated in his op banging the same drum which is boring as fuck. Christ even a thread about the new away strip quickly deteriorated into it this week.

Bowers,
I get where you are coming from but don't we already have mad for that? I still read mad sometimes but never post.
I'm not advocating a no sweary, No discussion, board where we all have to fall into line but I certainly post here because it's a bit more sane than mad? As I said before, I've no problems with any individual and will try to grab a beer with J before a game soon.
Mad should be left out if it as not everyone posts on it.
We have this subforum for Dundee utd only we dont need to get another thats for stuff about thompson out eay out finances and this for who we play sat predictions transfers. Keep all in the one.
I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion tangy.
If people are messaging TEK saying they are no posting anymore then imo they wont be a great loss. Its the same posters on here posting majority of the time from both sides and the niddle of the fence and like i say it would be boring if we all on the same side of the fence. Like i say we may have our disagreements but im not falling out with you beherder fkt or any others over something said on an online messageboard.

Which is?
Good idea?
Who thought a sub forum was a bad idea? And who thought a reasonable idea?
I like a bit of wind up and piss take but canna stand repetitive shite, whether I agree or not. Boring shite that is relentless on every thread. i.e.--an away strip thread spirals into tit fir tat garbage.
Online!
606 was the best United forum for me too.
There was a guy who had a lot of inside information on United regarding transfers and behind the scenes stuff during the Levein era? Sunshine or something, would like to see him make an appearance on here or elsewhere at some point.
This place is the best going just now though, Mad's a bit of a nuthouse and EastFootball's absolutely dire. This board's definitely the most balanced, and has some of the best posters who jumped ship from Mad, might get a bit heated from time to time, which doesn't bother me personally, but obviously does some folk if they're threatening to leave.

Bowers, its gone way beyond debate and disagreement. Its the repetition of the same things that is pissing people off and folk immediately getting shit for having a different opinion.
Sub forum seems a good idea to me.
Keep it to Thompson/financial as that's the main trigger for spats.
TBH it should be necessary but things are how they are and imo it would defuse things a bit

Has it? I wouldnt say so on any kind of scale maybe a couple of times.
Personal abuse? Again only seen it a handful of times nothing major.

Its not personal abuse. I wouldn't say its really ever got to that stage. But it's not healthy disagreement or debate either. It's people being almost immediately rounded upon by 4-5 people if they have a different opinion like an attempt to silence anyone from deviating from some sort of 'party line' or being unable to understand why others who post either a) disagree with this viewpoint or b) don't feel as strongly about it c) don't want to talk about it and are therefore rounded upon. It's more wearing than anything else.
Recently as well there has been other people taking a perverse delight in actually trolling others to get a reaction though. This was funny at first but has now got a bit wearing as well. Mind you people keep biting though which makes you wonder. Some of the trolling posts you should be able to spot a mile away.

TEK.. As in my post on page 1
Can you reopen the other thread deleting the posts you dont want on it as i thought was a good thread? Maybe others think same as had been an ongoing one.

100% with LAO here. The whole groundhog keech. Had run ins with Gunboat and others after the Tim two debacle. Ironically, I had the same feeling as them but felt saying the same things over and over on every thread was just boring. Seems to be going the same way here which is a shame. Dinna want to have a go at anyone but it'd be good to keep on topic on threads.

The last few posts are nailing it.
People don't need to toughen up.
They aren't offended at post - they are bored at them.
That's the biggest threat to a forum, boredom, not conflict.
Folk come on for a laugh and a bit of info and a vent at how shite we are.
To continue the pub analogy, yes, no one will storm out the pub for a disagreement, but if you keep telling the same stories or jokes, they'll tell you to zip it or stop inviting you.
I don't even think the majority of posters are in disagreement about ST. If TEK ran a poll probably 90% would think he's a KANT.
What needs to happen is that people need to stop going on about it as much (a little bit) and people need to let some of the now occasional mentions slip by unnoticed (a little bit).
Then when he undoubtedly fucks up again we can have threads specific to it.
Threads about kit, players and match day pies don't need to include him though

Thing is JA some people are passionte re the arguement on thompson . Im probably the person from where its all started ever since the contract sitution with mcnamara came out and overspending etc. And for a while it got personal between thompson and me. Both at fault .
I understand that everyone sees it differently and will have a different perspective on it but i genuinely fear for our clubs future and if it means i end up arguing with someone who doesnt see that then im gonna continue to do that. You may think its boring . I dont when oor future is in the balance.

Using Bowers analogy of lads in the pub. If there was a lad talking constantly about stamp collecting and he didn't let go of it, you'd probably find new friends or go to a different pub?
Is it still v personal with you n ST?

Been out at Perth Races, and taken by surprise by this thread.......
I'd say, don't have a sub forum, ignore stuff that annoys you: that's what you'd do with the telly.
Folk aren't thick, so don't be repetitive.
Haven't bothered reading the whole thread, ignore this if you think it's out of place or impolite.

Frequent reader and I would say a sub forum is pretty extreme, for the way one person has acted.

What I want from a place to chat United is a good variety of conflicting opinions discussed & challenged with a slice of humour and large portion of respect for fellow Arabs. Nae false accusations. Nae rounding on fellow posters or rallying a keyboard lynch mob.
Some inside info, some creative & challenging ideas & efforts to solutions that help oor team.
Like an argument like maist and sometimes the best threads are when folk are passionate but there is a way to do that side of posting that carries it on instead of bringing things to an abrupt halt.

I agree with you but surely a thread about the new strip (for example) disna need turned into another slagging match.

Spot on. This is what it should be
