A new protest idea (stolen from an old one)

Was thinking again about last Friday's protest and my main quibble was (and still is) that the chanting during the game could have a negative effect in the stands with fans arguing etc (which then creates an atmosphere of negativity which can potentially transmit onto the pitch).

BUT ....i do fundamentally agree in the protesters right to protest for change.

So what about at the Irn Bru Cup Final our supporters hold-up a 'red card' towards Thompson and our BoD (just as we did towards Maggie Thatcher alongside Celtic fans in the '88 Scottish Cup Final)?

FU or whoever is organising it (even display team?) could pick a minute in the match (may i suggest the 5th minute to symbolise and mock the fabled '5 year plan') to stand-up and silently hold aloft our 'red cards' towards the Directors Box at Fir Park.

Or if the organisers feel a supplementary chant alongside the protest would be more powerful then i would suggest doing it when the players are NOT on the field.

How about just prior to kick-off?Just after the last player has went up the tunnel after his warm-up to get a last minute team talk....the support rise and stand towards the Directors Box showing them the 'red cards'?Then a couple of minutes later cheer the players onto the park and get behind them.No-one could really argue about that being disruptive to the team if they're not even on the pitch at the time.

The best thing about this is it would be a cheap enough protest to organise.

You can get a ream of A4 card like this (50 sheets) for just 3 quid odds on ebay.

So the whole support that day could be supplied with a red card for the cost of just 3/400 quid.

As the games also on live National telly this may be a good time to protest just before the match kicks off.

Just an idea.

Re: A new protest idea (stolen from an old one)

You wouldnt be officially allowed to do this as seen as a protest so any materials would need smuggled in.

Re: A new protest idea (stolen from an old one)

You need to submit plans for a display to be approved by the security team and police. Who decide if it will get the green ligbt or not.
I have never tried to organise a protest display before but it wouldnt be allowed im almost certain of that.  Even those banners on friday if stewards had seen those on entering ground the people who had them would have got then taken off them.

Re: A new protest idea (stolen from an old one)

Clearly any protest wouldn't be sanctioned.  Handing out a bit of paper outside the ground would need some volunteers, but they could hardly stop folk taking a bit of paper each in and really on this occasion it wouldn't matter how it looked in terms of a display, the point would be clear.

I'm not saying it should def be the next step, but there's nothing wrong with folk putting ideas out there.

Re: A new protest idea (stolen from an old one)

Not disputing what you are saying Bowers as you obviously know more about these situations than I but as i say the fans done this in '88.

How did they overcome this then i wonder?

In 1988 football was enjoyable and you could stand up, fart without being flung oot and generally do what you want without the over zealous shite that happens nowadays.

Re: A new protest idea (stolen from an old one)

I doubt red cards would bother ST.

But as I said last night, FU and others may not have to do much campaigning, as Raymond's team is doing their job for them.

I think the majority of fans are now considering their position, for the rest of this season and beyond.

The form since Christmas, and to be honest for a long time before that in spite of our position, has been abysmal: if any fan group has an ace card, they should be playing it now, such is the feeling of the support.

By 'ace', I mean if they have support of folk with cash, sponsors, businessmen of means, and ex-players, now is the time to reveal that weight of influence.

Why do you think there is no middle ground between protesting during our biggest match for years and being happy with the current situation?
