Bowers, as a support we can't really afford to think people are getting at each other, or taking sides, or 'for' and 'against' certain stances.

There is no point in people or groups thinking they are in an isolated position.

I'm not on Facebook or Twitter, yet I knew of the yellow scarf idea as early as mid February, and was puzzled as to the choice of that colour. I knew of the leaflet idea at the start of this week, and that FU were looking for ideas as to what should go on these flyers. As an aside, some contact details would have been helpful, in my opinion, of course.

I saw the leaflet which had been produced early yesterday, but was surprised that the FU organisation didn't want publicity. And I'm wondering why not?

Having 120 members in a group, there were always going to be folk who'd fail to keep quiet, it's human nature that if you think you know a 'secret' you'll be keen to tell someone else.

I'd like to think all the organisation, The Fed, ArabTrust, DUBC, United Ladies of Tannadice, UFC2, Fans United, Foundation of United (too many!) could get together independently of the board and work out a strategy, for at present the whole approach appears too fragmented and disunited.

Pat..the colour scheme not my choice but at the end of the day its not my barbecue.
Imo FU do want publicity hence why the protest with yellow scarfs goes ahead during tonights televised game the flyer was leaked from someone far to early which with the numbers over 200 in the group it was always going to be hard but the majority of info had been kept off fans forums and social media for some time.

Agree all or most organisations need to work together but i cant see it happening.

So you are getting at me then?

As HH has said it wasnt supposed to be leaked it was to be kept quiet till today.

I wouldn't say i was 'getting at' anyone tbh.

But i am running a Dundee Uniwted Supporters Forum here. And this is obviously a topic very much to do with Dundee United FC at it's heart.

My point is it was said to me that the thread in question 'shouldn't have been posted' or words to that effect.

How can your ordinary punter know it wasnt supposed to be discussed?

To quote your reply to HH you said "i wasnt gettig at you" that to me is you are getting at someone. I had pmd u so i assumed you mean me.

You and HH have obviously discussed via pm so ill leave it at that.

Bowers don't take things to heart. When talking to you via PM i felt we were going round in circles a bit.

HH did fill me in and as a consequence i felt the thread should be pulled out of a courtesy.

Let's leave it at that. It's no biggie.

When UfC started they had two mass meetings.  Firstly, at the University where about 500 turned up and secondly in the Caird Hall where about 1500 - 2000 turned up.  At both the organisers clearly spelled out their concerns about the running of the club, what they wanted to see happen and then took questions, many of which were from very sceptical fans.  They were also open to ideas and suggestions of the way forward.  One thing they did ask at the time (but said they felt it was the last resort) was if fans were willing to protest at games if the regime continuted to make a chunt of running the club and would not walk away.  Punters at the time if memory serves said they did not want to see this happen. It eventually happened over a year later but not in an organised fashion after the Hearts 4-0 game/wee Jim lamping John Barnes and was borne out of exasperation at all the South American shite wee Jim has brought in.  It wasn't organised it was more spontaneous. The Fans United group appear to be moving straight to Defcon 4 which for me is wrong:

a) because it is at a vital game where the team need everyone pulling in one direction.
b) the worry is that it causes angry scenes if people who disagree with it turn on those doing it or, vice versa.

Tbh, TEK had a 5 post exchange with them earlier on Twitter asking a few questions about the group and basically got spoken to as if he was fucking stupid.  If a nippy, aggressive attitude is all the group is going to display its not going to win over large sceptical sections of the support or going to make 'Fans United'.  This is just the same attitude displayed by several posters on the boards that have pissed a lot of folk off already despite many (like me) being fed up about the decline of the club and open to the idea of getting rid of Thompson.

Personally, I am sympathetic to the groups aims, but am yet to be convinced about their methods.

This post is is nail on head for me.

I think it is fair to say that pretty much all of the support want change, ST has to leave for the good of the club.

So yes, get a pressure group together, hopefully with some influencers on-board; get organised, be open, be articulate in your arguments, don't take any criticisms badly and stay dignified in your responses to anything that might be aimed at you.

Re: Protest

My opinion for what its worth (nowt) I commend the group that has been set up and totally understand the logic of the timing of the protest to achieve as much media coverage as possible as the local media will not run any stories on the way the club is being run or the staggering losses reported.

I also understand why people think its bad timing given the importance of the game.  That said its only 2 minutes and I hope that for the other 90 minutes or so that the support back the team as loudly and proudly as possible as lets face the atmosphere has been honking for months.

The concept of arranging a meeting in a public place to drum up support air views etc I get also but we live in a world dominated by social media and this seems the most logical way to get the message out there.

What I hate seeing and cant be arsed with is the name calling online if you don’t agree with people who wish to see Thompson removed eg “head in sands arabs” “thompson sympathisers” etc etc  that is just pointless and puts people off listening straight away.

From what I see and amongst my squad is that we all want change at the club some disagree with protest but can understand why now, they may take part they might not that doesn’t make them more or less of an Arab than me.    I am presuming the people behind the group have information that not everyone is proxy too.   I see it a bit like the Scottish Refererdum to be honest and that people can be influenced by facts it would make much more sense if someone has a difference of opinion you respect that and provide them with as much information as possible rather than petty name calling etc  I hear a lot of who is going to take over etc, it’s a bit like you cant use the pound whats your plan B.

The last thing needed is for people to fall out with fellow arabs,  we are here for the same reason and that is the love of the club and in order to ensure we still have a club in the future is the reason that this group seems to have been set up and I applaud them for that.

That said totally respect others who feel different and just hope regardless of what happens tonight we get the 3 points.

Re: Protest

From one of the boys who set it up. A boy who has went home and away for as long as I can remember.

I applaud him fir getting up off his arse for trying to do something about the way his club has been run into the ground.

Ladies and Gents welcome to Fans United. A brief resume of where we are at to date as follows....The group came togethether in September 2016 formed only by our love for Dundee United Football Club and our concerns of the direction our Club has taken in the last couple of years. We are looking to assist in any way possible to achieve our sole aim of getting the Club back to running as efficiently and as successfully as it possibly could which we feel it clearly is not. We know we have no divine right to be playing in Scotland's Top Tier but do feel the way the club is being run is hampering our chances of getting back there. The group has built over the months and managed to get a meeting with the Clubs Associate Director , Colin Stewart , at which five of our members attended. Our members informed Colin of our concerns and our willingness to assist in anyway we could and requested a meeting with Stephen Thompson to discuss.....unfortunately despite several requests our meeting was turned down until such times as our offer of assistance was put in writing despite already having a letter hand delivered direct to Stephen Thompson at the Raith Rovers home game confirming exactly this. We have since then moved on and accepted , for his reasons that the Chairman does not wish to meet with us . We will though continue to question the club along with other fans groups and feel it is even more important to do so now given the alarming set of financial figures recently released by our Club. Ladies and Gents , to end  we are not a protest group , a merchandise seller or a shareholder in the Club. We are though Fans who travel home and away to support the Club and wish to see it being run in a fit and proper manner. Welcome fellow Arabs.

I was there bud. Getting 1500-2000 together worked as I remember. Maybe need something similar in future to bring fans together and perhaps vote on the best way forward.

Nae offence to all Internet forum readers but the true opinion of the support is massively skewed online by a few maniacs more concerned about their own opinion than what's best for the Club.

This is very true Arabnophobia and worth bearing in mind.

Re: Protest

Hi, long time reader, first time poster.

I don't know why people think chanting for two minutes will have an impact on the outcome of the game, place has been like a morgue recently anyway.

Also when is a good time to protest? Last season when fans were unhappy folk said wait until relegation was confirmed, then it was wait until the end of the season, then give the new management and team a chance, its never ending.

However, given we have been screaming out for more transparency from the club, this group have appeared out of no where and are shrouded in mystery. Some questions have been answered now on here, but not everyone visits this board, it would be good if they could spread the word on other platforms, it might get others on board.

It would be good as well if some of them could ditch the elitist cliquey attitude as well, that would be beneficial to getting more fans on their side.

Re: Protest

Fans United

We would like to publish our aim is NEVER to detract from what Ray and the team are doing but the need to do something so publicly as of tonight's game is a must.
The plight of the club needs to be made public so that fellow fans know what's going on as the club have stopped communicating with the supporters since Jan 2015.
We are genuine United supporters that are trying to be pro-active before it's too late.
We back the team 100% wholeheartedly and wish Ray and lads all the best for tonight.

Back the team- not the regime!

Tu - i dont think anybody has questioned FU (Haha how bad are those initials?) How loyal the people behind the group are.

My biggest problem is that there are a number of people on here who I presume are involved with FU who get extremely aggressive when you ask questions on why we should agree with FU.

so far, you've got a half arsed protest organised by a group of people who have a private facebook group, so even if I wanted to learn about your opinions/aims I can't.  You are effectively asking 6000 Arabs to support something they don't know about.

If it does go ahead as you lads plan, I think it will be a disruption to the team in the biggest game of the season. This is your first point of protest? Hardly building up to it.

As for the group itself - according to the statement above the group has been in place since September....wtf have they been doing? Writing the fliers by hand? Until we hit a patch of bad form, the idea hadn't been considered as far as I am aware.
