Huge huge week coming up for United with our biggest game of the season to date coming up on Friday v Hibs and then a tricky tie in Paisley versus a resurgent St.Mirren 5 days later.
We must win both of these if we still harbour any intentions of winning this league outright.
The starting XI we played when we beat Hibs 1-0 back in December 2nd last year was as follows....
..........................Bell...........
Toshney...Durnan..Edjenguele..Robson
.................Telfer.......Flood.......
.........Spittal......Fraser....VDV......
........................Andreu........
That was a solid, stuffy (maybe slightly fortuitous?) win that evening and though i would except the same result in a heartbeat i would really like us to get in their faces on Friday and really take the game to them and set down a marker that we really are up for a title fight.
The team i would like to see starting for us is....
.....................Bell.....................
VDS....Durnan...Edjenguele..Robson
.............Telfer....Flood........
....................Andreu............
Nicholls...Mikelssen...Murray
Subs - Zwick,Fraser,Dixon,Dillon,
VDV,Toshney,Murdoch

Fraser and Dixon will play instead of Nicholls and Robson. Personally, I'd play Robson but he's not going to leave Fraser out even though the last three games have shown all sides to the laddie. Utter shite v Falkirk and on his arse most of the game, mixed against QotS, good going forward but responsible for both of their goals. However he was easily our best player vs Morton (not hard mind you).

We need to be "up and at them" on Friday night, in their faces, harassing them, running at them, pressing them up the park, battling for every ball and getting the crowd behind them.
Unfortunately that's not Fraser's game at all so should be on the bench. Hibs will know well enough how to deal with him and he'll fade at the slightest sign of the going getting rough or tough.

Fraser has talent but he's at times like playing with 10 men.Just not interested in the defensive side of the game or the rough'n'tumble of a big battle.
I hope he is sacrificed for this one and we put Tony in his best position (just behind the forward/s).
Murray done very well out on the left v Raith and i would like to see him start there.
P.s. Dixon got the runaround against Humprehy's in the last Hibs game.He will again if Humphrey's is fit.

Don't really get the blame Fraser for everything, he is a top talent and we should set up to make use of his best attributes rather than harper on about his lack of defensive qualities. We play 2 holding midfielders who should allow Fraser to play with the freedom to cause damage at the business end of the park. We must be the only team in world fitba who expect our playmaker to defend all the time.
Surely we’ve got nothing to lose now by going for it in every game? We’re on the home straight now and hibs have a starty. I’m not saying all out kamikaze attack but on the front foot, in the face every game from now on.
....................Bell
VDS Durnan Edjenguele Robson
............Flood Fraser Telfer
.................Andreu
.......Mikkelsen Murray

I worry Lennon will out think Raymond again: terrible team selection last time for the game at Easter Road from our point of view.
Cannae say I'm looking forward to the game, unlike bowers. Usually I'm optimistic about the football, but probably will enjoy the pre match and post match sections of the evening much more than the game itself.
Murray should start, in my view: that team from Goodie Conway 2 looks the most positive we could go for, but I fear for the lack of cover down the wings.
Tie a rope onto Flood to stop him running in all directions, and make sure other players know which part of the park they are responsible for.

I think it depends on what Edinburgh Hibs turns up for the match. At their best they are IMO in the top 4 in SCotland as a 2nd tier side they could be on the brink of reaching 3 finals in a row , has that ever happened before? They have though looked very ordinary on a number of occasions this year. Many calling for all out attack I believe RM should be very cautious in his approach against whether we like it or not is a better team

Dunfermline played them of the park two weeks ago because they got the ball wide and attacked them quickly and often.

they did Tek i would agree with that. However you have used the word quickly in your post something we dont have in our side. if its an open end to end game the chances are we'll lose. We have to try and close down the space and frustrate them.
How many of our attacking players would get in their starting 11. We all like to see attacking football but we currently dont have the players to play like that

Pace, width and moving the ball quickly is the best way to win a game of football, unfortunately you're right tho, it's just not what we are capable of doing just now. I'm not sure we're capable of sitting in and frustrating effectively either.

If we get the usual one up front against 4 defenders we can expect another pumping, feck Effe will look like Beckenbauer !
Get some bodies up front and take the game to them.....it's Hibs FFS !
If he sets up to defend could be game up the poley after 5 mins, just like Easter Road, and Falkirk, and Ross County and...
Get them fired up and go chase the game for a change, go down fighting yeah but not the boring defensive shit that we are no good at.

Murray has pace.
And we were told Nicholls had pace when he signed.
Though we are yet to see any sign of that.

Fiver on Nicholls scoring a pacey style goal then mibbies?

Thought first was out of the question but realised we are 7 behind with them up next and a game in hand.
The eternal optimist in me wonders whether we could pull it back to 1 behind...the realist in me thinks we will draw and still be 7 behind.
Played 3 drawn 1 lost 1 and won 1 v hibees- not too bad.
RM talking a good game in The Courier today...
He's saying we'll be going all out to win this and every other game in the run in. It's what I wanted to hear, whether it happens or not...

Ray talks big alright but we've seen very little from his talks!
Friday is the last chance saloon , win or bust with a defeat leaving us floundering in a crisis.

It's really not. Even if we lose, Hibs play Falkirk and Morton this month. Draws in those games would see a couple of wins for us claw back points.
Not predicting anything but the maths say it's far from over.

Remind me of how many games we've won since xmas please
I don't actually know exactly. We won plenty before that though. I prefer to live in hope, if not expectation.

If Mckinnon comes away with another negative team which results in a bad defeat again he'll lose the fans
