It's very strange this gets dragged up again and its definitely worth trying to work out if there are moves behind the scenes or just pure deflection to take away from a shambolic transfer window and the obvious lack of real desire from Thompson to get us up.
The talk of Administration or liquidation is very scary but the one thing comforting me is ST would get nothing for his shares if either happened so I just can't see him letting either happen.

I agree to an extent.
Both clubs should issue a statement saying the issue is a flight of fancy.

Tek, one thing that bothers me is this: Yesterday there were one or two things going around to mark the time we beat Rangers in 2012, 0-2 in the Scottish Cup. I saw pics of Ibrox sparsely populated. Even so, there was still around 17,000 there, probably about 2,000 Arabs, so for the home support, it was still the equivalent of a full Tannadice and then some. That was the last ever game Rangers played as a solvent club - their fans had NO CLUE it was coming, there were no anti-administration placards that day, no chants, no nothing - they simply didn't believe it would happen. Celtic fans knew full well it would happen, they talked of little else at that time - but because of that, Bears just disregarded it as Celtic fans just noising them up. Rangers fans knew the club was in trouble, but not to the extent that it was. Days after we beat them, they did of course go into administration. 4 days before it happened, a total roaster called Chris Graham (a prominent Bear who was heavily involved with the Rangers fan groups) BACKED Craig Whyte. We MUST keep a close eye on things, we must ask awkward questions, we must get answers. Yes, the Fed have indeed been trying as we all know, but I'm not convinced ArabTRUST or the DUBC have been. Too often those two groups have too many sycophants looking for a lanyard and don't want to rock the boat - you certainly can't accuse the Fed of that which is laudable. When administration happens, if often the script that everyone else saw it coming, the club's fans were the last to know. We cannot let that happen.

Regardless of that I think BennyBoys post is a cracker.
Plenty posters have the savvy on here to take heed of the points within. Time to move on to finding a collective way forward.
Sure Oldco made a collective arse of communicating with each other and those in charge of the club. Mind laughing at their 4 (?) main fans groups having a civil war when it really mattered. BennyBoy has a point or 3 within that post.
Everyone knew the Huns were going tits up - the big tax case was looming, the wee tax case had been lost, the bailiffs had been in....
Never wise to be complacent but there are no current signs of that kind of financial stress at Tannadice...and an article in the Courier by Jim Spence about a merger isn't one of them.

Just to add though seeing as it's on this topic, I don't want and wouldn't support a merger.
If Dundee United ceased to be the entity it is now it would rip my heart out.

I doubt you could find more than 10 true united fans who'd even consider a merger

If there was an acceptable merger it would have to be a team called Dundee United as the teams wid be United, who play at Tannadice wearing Tangerine black & white.
Parking oor Shedmobiles at the Ralphie Chipped Kelly car park on old dens and have Samba dee'tecting turnstiles to keep the inbreds oot.
Never going to happen and just a cracking distraction. Utter shite.

What if the owners felt they didn't have to consult us, both sets of supporters, and went ahead anyway? It widnae be the first, nor the last, merger in football history.

Just had a quick scan on United Mad, it's very rare that I go on there these days but one or two points were worth noting to my mind: Firstly, there's the assertion that The Fun's American owners would probably be up for a merger as they, to paraphrase, have no emotional ties to Dundee FC. I find that cogent. The second thing that grabbed me was this: "In the business world, one way of achieving unpopular mergers is to allow one or both companies to 'run down' to a point where a merger is more attractive to those opposed to the idea, especially if it can be shown that survival is not possible without it." That sets off alarm bells, because again, it's cogent and because it is indeed one of the oldest tricks in the book.

I don't think he would let that happen either,as,as you say,his shares would then be worthless.
What if the only people willing to buy his shares were the Yanks at the top of Tannadice street though?Would he sell to them or walk away with nothing?
If we are stuck down here for more than a year or two and are starved of incoming transfer fees and crowds against Sevco,Dundee,Celtic,Aberdeen,Hearts,Hibs then Admin would be a possibility (either that or mass budgetary cuts I.e. the club going part time).
All these scenarios are of course hypothetical on my part (and admittedly all a bit 'doomsday').
But maybe now some will realise why it's quite so necessary that the Federation of Utd supporters are quite so tenacious in their pursuit of transparency.Because you just 'never know'.
As Bennison said,it is good to be vigilant.Supporters are always the last to know of these situations.

Mind when Angus Cook tried this? He was hounded and the same thing would happen again if ST or the Yanks even thought about pulling this off.
Have to laugh at all these weegie journalists and former players commenting on this - Prick Young again on Saturday going on about how ridiculous it is fora city the size of Dundee to have two stadiums in the same street - right so if Tannadice was in Gourdie and Dens in Barnhill it would be OK then? FUD.

Dens Park would never be accepted in Barnhill. Its too near Angus.

See this today at Kemlin Station bridge. It's a sign.
Or two signs.

If there's a merger both clubs are killed off anyway.
If we were liquidated, there's 5000 ish Season Ticket holders looking for a new club to support, it would be a hell of a journey, but one i'd be 100% behind.
FC United of Dundee is far more palatable than a merged club, with no history, fanbase or affection.
