Re: Trainspotting 2

I know what you mean Scarpia.

The thing that worries me isn't the actors, director or script (it's being written by John Hodge again). All are and will be excellent.

It's the music.

In 'Trainspotting' the actors were all in their twenties or early thirties and the soundtrack was cool as fuck Leftfield, Blur, Jarvis Cocker, Iggy, Blondie, Brian Eno etc. It was also made and released bang smack in the middle of the 'Cool Britannia' cultural movement (which was a pretty exciting time to be young).

Now all the actors are in their late forties and /or 50's and modern music is fucking tragic.

How does Danny Boyle remedy this problem?

I honestly think the film might have benefitted from a cool artist writing an original soundtrack for T2,but I'd be surprised if that was this case as I heard they're making it on a tight budget again as Danny Boyle favours this method of film-making.

I am so intrigued/nervous/excited to see the finished product.

Gonna re-read 'Porno' next week in anticipation (even though I know it's only loosely based on T2).

Re: Trainspotting 2

I find the author a  degenerate whose "work" is disgusting.  And  will never understand why so many find it entertaining.  Must be an age thing, I guess. A sign of the times. Or can it be that the followers of this garbage identify with the lifestyle of the author's characters?

Re: Trainspotting 2

I dislike the author myself due to his blatant lies in the Loaded magazine years back about hanging about with the casuals etc but like the books and films. It's fiction after all and not to be taken seriously.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Trainspotting 2

I enjoyed it.

They bridged the gap between the past, the intermittent 20 years and the present pretty well i thought.

My only minor criticism is i felt it wasn't quite dark enough.

The 1st film had AIDS,cot death, bloody glassings in pubs, hallucinations about dead babies,Spud shitting the bed, condoms getting ripped off of semi erect knobs, near fatal overdoses etc etc etc.

This one was almost 'feelgood' in comparison.I felt they never quite went for it enough. That shock value that you felt when (say for instance) Begbie glasses the guy in the pub was missing.

Found it an enjoyable watch though as a huge fan of the first film and Irvine Welsh's novels (btw i did think this film was more loyal to Welsh's books than the first film).

Will i still be referencing lines from T2 in 20 years time and watching it time after time though?Doubtful.

So i suppose you could could compare it in that regard to the other T2 (Terminator 2) i.e. pretty damn decent but not having the 'wow factor' or the cultural iconography of their predecessors.

Still though.I would certainly watch it again and it was just fucking brilliant tbh to see all those actors and characters together again on screen.

Last comment.Robert Carlyle is a terrific actor and Begbie stole every scene.

Irvine Welsh's best character still.

p.s. door left ajar for possible 3rd movie i felt.
