it finally happened

Our luck run out yesterday at Dumbarton all the out punching finally caught up with us!!

The truth is we've been winning playing pretty dire and scrapping wins through guts more than anything, Hibs have added some real quality to their options as well now so unless Thompson digs deep we're in danger of falling well off the pace pretty soon.

We're carrying too many passegers and the usual offenders stood out by being anonymous, skilless or heartless again

The weather had nothing to do with losing yesterday either anyone swallowing that one is kidding themselves.

Don't get me wrong I think it's a mini miracle that we are where we are and Ray deserves all the plaudits, he really fucked up with that team yesterday though and I hope he's kicking Thompsons door in for 2 player THIS week not the last 24 hours of the window.

Re: it finally happened

Yes we've not been getting great to get the results, but mostly getting them so that shows some positives in the squad.

Wasn't there yesterday so no idea how anyone played apart from what I've read which would suggest they were all pish

Don't think anyone believes the weather was to blame for the result.  If that's what Ray has said publically, it certainly won't be what's been said privately.

Ray has done a lot of the right things so far and I'm sure he's been harassing ST for months about January.  I'm not so sure it'll do any good.  We need at least a striker and a real winger, (ciftci & GMS is my unrealistic preference failing that Daly and Conway or Olofsson and McLaren in fact fuck it Banmon and Dodds) preferably a 2nd striker as well.

Re: it finally happened

Spittal or Murray would never play again if I was the manager, Spittal was meant to be wide left first half and was posted missing every time Dixon had the ball.

Murray couldn't control anything yesterday its embarrassing how bad his basic control is.

For the life of me I cannot fathom that starting team yesterday especially no Cammy Smith with Tony being out.

Re: it finally happened

It's all about balancing the squad now, clearly there was only so much could be done in the summer.  We did end up with  at least 4 'number 10s' tho and only Murray as a number 9 and Obadeyi as our only width, this is what needs addressed.

Expect a few moves prob more out than in and with Cammy Smith being on loan and one of those 'number 10s' can't see him being here beyond Hibs game.

My thoughts on Murray are exactly same as yours btw, really poor that's all we have to play up there.

Re: it finally happened

To bring players in players have to be moved on, unless Thompsons hunt for investment is successful which unfortunately I can't see happening.

Re: it finally happened

Yesterday was a sobering end to what will go down as a horrific year for the terrors. RM has been largely succesful in his main task, player recruitment. Hopefully he can get 1or 2 in this month and keep improving the team. No way should ST spend beyond what the turnover dictates leave that to Hibs. Stay calm and back RM we are heading in the right direction.

I agree,  we shouldn't spend what we don't have but we have to get new players in to get us up via being champions or play off winners.  Another season in the championship and then I fear for our future.

We shouldn't go spending beyond what we can afford absolutely.

However we have IMO an unnecessary expenditure in David Southern, another in Jim Spence, then there's the smaller costs like the extra wage to someone in a unnecessary ticket booth at the GF, or the stewards/catering costs for unnecessarily opening the JK.

And folk might not like this but as far as I'm aware we have paid off no non football staff.  Now I don't want to see folk put on the dole, but from a purely business point of view every time I go in the shop it's overstaffed and I'm certain there are other unnecessary costs, ST still have his mate driving him about?  From the outside looking in and admittedly without all the facts and figures we seem to be pouring money out where it's not needed and that money should have been better spent.

We get back up money coming in goes up, we have to make that happen for football and financial reasons.

Re: it finally happened

Shed the phrase you use looking in from the outside is what we are all doing . We could all look at the accounts and have our own views. What matters is the team on the park. Southerns role seems to get many overly animated does he earn as much as Coll Donaldson.
big game on friday thats all that matters

My point is team on the park could be better if the money was all spent on that team instead of unnecessary costs like Southern.  Btw I bet he earns more.

I'll bet you that he brings in more money than it costs to pay him, and if he wasn't there, then the money would be lost to the Club.

We have. One of them's a very good friend of mine, and he's now working in a supermarket.

1st point Billy, the tickets can be sold direct at turnstiles, negates the need for it altogether and the wage.

2nd point, fair enough, I've never seen it said anywhere Utd were paying off. What was his role if u don't mind me asking?

Re: it finally happened

Maybe a wee bit of a harsh assessment.

The weather 100% did play a part in the game - equal for both teams but it did play a part. Neither keeper could kick the ball out of the half to the right hand side and the goal looked like the wind played funny buggers with the flight.

I do agree we need more players and it looks like it will happen - so need to sit tight and see what we get.

Thought too many players weren't suited to where they were playing. Big nick hopeless until he came into the middle. Spittal equally is not a wide left player. I presumed fraser would play just behind the striker but that never seemed to materialise.

And can we please stop obsessing on 1 man's wages. We don't know what his role is  - i personally couldn't tell you if he is good value or not.

Do we now call into question Joe rices wages and scrutinise what he does for the club? Ricki grauer? Is she doing enough? The wee wife in the shop could surely have her ours cut... it just feels like a witch hunt from the fed/at members who have an axe to grind.

On a similar note, I don't know how much we pay spence but i would double it - some good work on his part has managed to control the civil war that was going on with the club. Clearly a job beyond the full time members of staff at tannadicr

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

I'd call into question everyone's wages at the club after we got relegated.
Spence isn't needed. All was needed was Thompson to face the fans.  He hasn't and won't. Instead he's paid someone to consult.  He's probably created a bigger divide between fans and club now imo

Re: it finally happened

It's clear for all what we need in this window. But we have to get lads oot the door first. So who should be that?? For me there are 2/3 I wouldn't mind seeing leave to free up wages.

Cammy Smith- ending his loan, no sure how much oh his wage it is we're paying
Coll Donaldson- any takers??    Please.
Blair Spittal- went backwards IMO and wouldn't mind seeing him move on. Loan/Permanent.

Scott Fraser- our only sellable asset, wasn't great yesterday (without Andreu) but been oor  main man most of the season and biggest threat second half yest.. would you sell? If so how much realistically should we be looking maybe £250,000-500,000
Of course only if RM got all the money to reinvest in Ciftci.

If someone can tall me one positive thing Jim Spence has done for Utd this season I'd be amazed.

Is the bus still in the garage?

We were shite yesterday, weather was an issue but cannot for one minute take away the fact we were shite as fuck with no fight till the last 5 mins.

I think as concerned paying supporters we've got every god damn right to ask what peoples roles and responsibilties at the club are and how they are in these potitions. We didnt need a general manager till ST was fucking off to OZ, now hes stopped going there i dont see why we need Southern? He wasnt with us before and we survived so what is he doing? As for Jim Spence, a waste of £40k a year, would rather go and watch east craigie than United on a Saturday.

These wages could/should be spent on new players in most peoples opinions, double Jim Spences wages, wow, fucking hell ha ha

I love watching United on arabzone...

This is the kind of response that is more suited to other forums. Abusing posters you dont share your opinion is not what I want to read.

Re: it finally happened

Although unsure exactly what some of the folk behind the scenes do, none of them are directly to blame for our first defeat in months. I don't think there's anyone abusing other posters here, unless, Spencey and DS post here.

Thank fuck we have had a relatively successful second half on 2016.

As someone who is not against the chairman the footnote in the post is abusing an alternative point of view.

Re: it finally happened

So a question for those who don't agree with my post re: Southern and Spencey...

Other than the pantomime baddies, who else's wages/responsibilities have you researched and what was your findings? I presume everybody else at the club in a non-playing capacity are deemed to be working hard and worth their money.

2nd question- im not part of the inner circle and haven't seen the results of any investigation into the roles and responsibilities of southern and spence - so could you tell me what they do for their money? 40k has also been bandied about as how much spence has been paid - where did this come from?

I'm all for excessive cost cutting allowing further investment in the playing squad - so convince me they aren't required.

Re: it finally happened

We've continued to run the club with SPL sized staff off the pitch and an under sized playing staff to get us promotion,

At least we have the king of twitter on the books now though

Murray like all players has strengths and weaknesses, possibly in the view of many not many of the former and too much of the latter, certainly not the silky touches. Given this and given he is our only striker, why do we continually play to his weaknesses and not his strengths - ie stick the ball into space away from a defender and let him compete for it. As far as I'm concerned the jury's out on Murray as (a) he has no-one up front to play alongside (when he gets a game) and he gets virtually no service from those behind him - why then do we expect him to do better than the 9 goals he's scored already this season and why do we think a new striker will do any better unless the service improves and we change formation and play 2 or even 3 up top.
