Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Im going for a wee change in line up and personnel.

............................................................Bell

....VDS.........................Durnan.........................Edge.....................Robson

.......................................................Murdoch

..........................Flood...............................................Fraser

.......................................................Andreu

......................................Murray.....................C. Smith

Subs: Zwick, Dillon, Donaldson, Telfer, VDV, Obedeyi, Spittal.
Diamond midfield for a change with Cammy Smith getting a long overdue league start.
If Dixon is fit I'd be tempted to start him instead of Robson though.  Robson to drop to the bench in that case.

Agree with that, having read RM's comments about playing Fraser 'out of position' (wide) fully expect and think he should be central, Murdoch could come back in don't think Telfer has done too much wrong IMO. Looking forward to this one nonetheless.

2-0 the shed Fraser&Murray

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Yeah I kinda had that too only Telfer for Cammy cos I don't think Ray will leave Telfer out & he just ain't picking Cammy.
Don't disagree about LB either, Robson's doing great and he probably wouldn't thank you for a rest but may get one.
Simon & Tony upfront with Fraser lurking behind playing them through. I think the three of them might get wee triangles going.

This for me.

I think it's currently our strongest XI.

Cammy Smith has flattered to decieve for me.

Spittal offers virtually nothing going forward and deserves dropped.No-one seems to know what his actual best position is,including him probably.

It would be harsh to drop Robson imo.He has been part of a backline that hasn't conceded a goal in 6 and a half games now.He has earned that left back shirt and Dixon should be made to fight for it back, not just handed a free ticket back into the side.

Hopefully VDS makes it for the suspended Toshney. If not it will have to be Dillon i suppose (scary he is still our first choice back-up for EVERY position across the backline currently).

Not feeling confident about the game.St.Mirren have turned the corner somewhat and we are not playing too great.

Big performance required and time to score some goals.

Raymond may consider the goals against in the past series of games and decide using the same formation suits us.

This would be my choice. Don't think we need 2 sitters at home to a struggling side and Fraser offers far more than Telfer as an attacking threat. Want to see more than one up top (prefer 3) but settle for 2 for now. Having tried everyone else Cammy Smith deserves a chance to show what he can do - not much to beat. Love to see us ditch 4:2:3:1 - its not been particularly successful for us.

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

If everyone is now back fit and the signing goes thru then

                          Bell
VDS.     Durnan.      Edge.     Robson
                         Flood
           Spittal                VDV
                         Fraser
             Andreu.          Sammon

Zwick Dillon Dixon Telfer Obadeyi Murray Murdoch

1 sitting midfielders enough, real lack of width, can't wait for GMS to be back on 31at January.

Spittal because Telfer and Murdoch are not attacking players and Obadeyis not the answer plus he want nearly as bad as some are making out on Saturday.

Keep Robson in at LB for now, but he needs to improve on Sat's performance where he was poor.

Re Cammy Smith, he can't play wide and can't play up front and seems to be another of this batch of kids wondering around football who are nothing but a "number 10".  He's not a bad player but he's not gonna play there for us with the current squad we have and the numerous "number 10s" available, time to punt him back to Aberdeen when the window opens.  It's just not worked since Andreu came in for him.

We sign sammon we will still go with 1 up top on sat which will be pish. We should be going for it at home especially

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

This will be a toughie - St. Mirren are coming onto a game since Jack Ross went there - unbeaten in three (2 draws and a win).  That arsehole Sutton will cause us issues again no doubt.

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Ray has got a few tough decisions to make due to the team begining to splutter offensively, also Dixon played in a development game today so like the last time I see him taking the LB berth.

For me Fraser needs to be played in the middle of the park, , he's our main man and he's definitely less effective playing wide.

Murray will start I think and I'm hoping topi is dropped for Smith.

First and foremost we need a win but it would be great to see us being more dominant on the pitch.

Tully reporting VDS has had a setback in coming back from a torn calf muscle and will be out for at least a fortnight. Sair.

Dare to Dillon?

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Dillon did ok on Sat when he came on.

Yes he is prone to the odd brain fart and his left foot is only for standing on but at RB he's generally ok.  Don't think he's any worse than Toshney tbh.

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Dillon is probably better than toshney at RB

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Dillon doesn't like closing down, its his biggest fault as a defender - if SM play a wide man he will get crosses into our box. At least we can defend these now but its better to prevent them in the first place. Options are limited. Willo's played there in the past which would allow Murdoch back as the sitter. Other than those two its either Spittal or possibly try Donaldson to see if he could do a job as a stop gap RB. With Donaldson you at least get an arial presence at set plays at both ends

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Not sensing much excitement about this fixture. Maybe the early start, maybe the time of the year, but hopefully there will be more anticipation tomorrow.

I think St Mirren have got a bloke who will turn out to be a good manager in charge now, and nobody has really pumped them this season.

So I'll go for 3-0 United!

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Another 3 points for us is all that matters today.  Still need signings in to bolster attack, but where we are without them gives us a real chance of winning this.

Tap of the league, yetti!

Little mention for Donaldson after a absolute shocker I thought he did well, edge was good again!

Can't grumble were tap, shed rule

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

Good result at any rate and pressure well and truly on Hibs now.
At the start of the season I'd have doubted we'd be in this position so well done to Ray and the players.

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

3 points is what mattered today. Im sitting here thinking (copyright C Nicholas) have I ever seen a worse mistake from a Utd player. Its only a few months since some on here were debating whether Donaldson was better than  Durnan. Roĺl on to Boghead

Re: Dundee United v St Mirren Saturday 24th December 2016

It was a bad mistake from Donaldson. But, unless I'm mistaken, why did Dixon take such a throw in, putting a ball across out area like that? Donaldson was fine after that terrible slip.

No matter, top of the league, the result is all that matters right now.
