Rillington Place

Is anyone else watching "Rillington Place" on BBC1? The first 2 episodes are very atmospheric. The scenery is exactly like the London slums of that era. And the part of John Reginald Halliday Christie is played so chillingly by Tim Roth.I remember the case very well. In 1952/3 I lived with my father and stepmother in a small market town in Cambridgeshire. One morning we opened the Daily Mirror to find a large photo of another John Christie - my grandfather! Grandad was the spitting image of the serial killer, and got some ribbing as a result.I joined the Army soon after and my sergeant major persistently called me John Reginald. I hated that, and even more so when he would say to my mates "If you're hungry, lads, ask John Reginald to get you a couple of tarts out of the cupboard." A reference to where the bodies were hidden.....The final TV episode is next Tuesday. This one will be a spine-chiller!

How about the young lad whose teacher pissed him off when calling the register?  "Hope, Leslie." Eventually the boy went to America, changed Leslie for Bob, and became a big movie star.....

apparently there was loads of footage they never used because it was just too graphic.  For that reason the necrophilia references weredropped.

Censoring their own work. Fkn wimps!  Do they think it would be too offensive for folk who have lived through the Savile revelations?

Really?  I've seen places in London exactly like that.  I'm not very clued up on Glasgow, though. Not at all my favourite city......
