I'd take a draw right now but then we've got them again 5 weeks tonite and I guess we'd take a draw then as well? They'll be hoping for 4 points out of the 6. This is their first game minus Fyvie & McGinn so I wonder if I'm being a bit cautious not going for 3 points tonite. It's been the heart of their midfield all season & I don't see obvious replacements, it's upfront they have spare resources.
5-0 for us
I think the game against them in 62-63 was my first 5-0 watching United. Time for another!!

Team is -
Bell
Toshney
Durnan
Edjenguele
Robson
Flood
Telfer
Fraser
Andreu
Spittal
Van Der Velden
Looks like we are playing the contained game and going for the pace option (if at all) later on in the match.

Just back in from hospital, seen last 5 minutes, waste of 2 tickets that was.
Anyway delighted with that result and delighted to see the professionalism that's now filtering through our team. That to me is the biggest difference from Ray to Jackie, he's getting players to understand what they need to do to win. How did we play? Deserved winners?
Offline
Deserved winners 100%
We have way more opportunities than them and only Toshney being rash in the tackle several times gave them anything.....a schoolboy lunge again in the box for their penalty, he's given away a handful already this season and is still a bombscare at RB.
GREAT WIN THOUGH

Draw wouldn't have been unfair.
Cammy Bell is a penalty hero yet again but had a better point blank save.
Bobby Madden was awful from our point of view. Surprised he gave us a pen. Maist things went Hibs way even when he was 3 yards fae the play.
Display was a cracker and our stands were rocking near the end.
Some tasty tackles and a near mass brawl after Flood and Holt squared.
Oor Wullie won almost everything near him.
Good result for players and fans all round as I worried what slide might happen if beaten.
Durnan looked a tad nervous at times as did Toshney but the pen he conceded was a nano second out in timing but maybe a pen.
Murray came on and won oor penalty.
Le Frog put it away in good style reading the keeper and place went nuts.
Held out well against the Hibs and the ref.
Magic win!

Fucking come on! Absolutely brilliant, ray mckinnon is doing absolute wonders! BTW if you have instagram look a ciftci last post, looks like he's choking to come home

First time in a while I've had the old butterflies at tannadice but that was magic tonight to get the win. Defended superbly tonight against a team filled with big units. I'm gonna stick up for Toshney yes the pen was a mistake on his part but he doesn't shirk a tackle and throws his body on the line, there were a few chances they had tonight where he flew at the ball to snuff out the chance. Bell 🔔 is becoming a keeping hero! VDV looked pooped after 40mins and the injection of Murray made a difference later in the game. Magic stuff and a braw start to the weekend

McKinnon is getting the best out his players while green teeths tactics were piss poor.
Madden was a disgrace dreadful decisions all over the park the only thing he got right was the two penalties. Great to see team spirit organisation and a real determination to win after a few years of feebleness.

Well said bud!
Still a wee bit feebleness to stamp out.
Our rise to sucess had the opposite.
RMcK is still building a squad and I don't see any feeble fuckers surviving his cull if given the dosh to bring in more fight unless they are creative in a way he believes he can add steel or make them sellable assets.
He kens what's right for United !

Thon Hibs have about 3 times our season ticket holders therefore a much bigger budget, but feck me they were utter horseshite tonight. GIRFUY Lennon, smert team.

We are far from the finished article but the spirit and organisation in the team was heartening to see tonight.
I knew after Cammy Bell saved the penalty we would win, somehow.
Bell,Edjenguele,Fraser and Andreu all very good.
My Motm personally though was Durnan. He was a rock for us tonight.

Great result but I think flood may be in for a ban. Definitely swung a hand at the hibs boy.

Was really good to hear not only Willo challenge the Chairman to give the Manager January funds
BUT
To also hear McKinnon say he felt looking ahead to the January window that we were '3 or 4 players light'.In his opinion.I agree.
Maybe the desire to win this league outright is starting to become a possibility amongst those within the corridors of Tannadice.
Bout fucking time.

Can they penalise someone for something the ref witnessed after a match through TV footage?

Ach it was handbags (and a bit comical seeing Willo square up to a boy about 6 stone heavier).
They both heartily shook hands at the end in conciliation and sportsmanship (the way it should be).
I hope nothing comes of it further (for either).

Telling comment I heard from Ray pre-match somewhere was along the lines of "Hibs fans expect them to win the league and I hope ours are thinking about us in the same way". Given the amount of our support who have been prepared to accept 2nd best this season, I thought that was brilliant to hear that Ray expects the fans to be aiming for the top. Clearly if he expects it from us he's got that mindset into the players.
Also shows he's willing to accept the pressure of expectation that comes with that thinking, even the wee bit negativity a bad result can. Ring, maybe he thinks that it will help when a bad result does come.

Nip and tuck game last night which I thought we more than shaded first half on chances created if not possession. Hibs clearly the better side second half aided by abysmal refereeing and linesman decisions. The substitution was ideal though to stretch the game and Murray has a lot of limitations but he's great for running against tired legs and did brilliantly to draw the foul for the penalty.
A word on two players last night: Cammy Bell. Fast becoming my favourite United player. Incredible stuff. Also wee Willo Flood, who's scrap with a man about 3 times the size of him in Holt was class and was epitomised everything that was missing last season. Great stuff.
A wee insight into what Scottish football would look like with out Celtic and SEVCO as well. Big crowd, great atmosphere, competitive. Funny that.

At fed meeting with spence and Colin last week they both said that for manager to bring players in he has to move players on. He's been looking at strikers.
Offline
If RM is saying he is wanting at least 3 in come January, surely that means Fraser is off to England?? Would hate to loose him.
Anywiy
What a f***ing atmosphere last night was! Couldn't pick one stand out thought every single one of them left their all out on that beautiful tannadice pitch! Brilliant.

No want to put a dampner on a great result but last night only further confirmed to me that we need to sign a striker in January. Van der Velden tries his best but a striker he is not, reckon with a big, proven number 9 we would've won by at least a couple last night. Canna be relying on Bell and the defence to win us games 1-0 for the rest of season IMO.
Apart from that another performance of real grit for me, won everything at the back and hibs rarely threatened minus the penalty. Brilliant to get one over treacle teeth lennon ana, dinna ken if there's a more dislikeable guy in fitba minus JMac.

Following a night on the tiles after the game and spending most of today doing sh1tey Xmas shopping.
Madman inconsistent clown. Lino on GF side useless. A number of times he took 10-12 seconds to make a decision and raise his flag. Took some stick from GF. Hibs won the majority of 50-50 balls in the air esp. from goal kicks. Think it was about 70 mins before VDV won a 50-50 ball in the air.
1ST half.
Generally very eeksy-peeksy. Coulda scored in 2 mins if VDV had've passed right to Fraser?
The Spittal Crunch
Pr1ck McGregor catches Spittal in the pus. 3:15. Spittal goes off 5:30. Were down to 10 men then Spittal runs down the touchline into the tunnel just on 7 mins. All things considered we play no bad we 10 men until Spittal came back on at 14:30
Andreu great attempt following run by Fraser immediately after Hibs freekick. Similar attempt around the 27 min mark, we a pass from Spittal. Fraser`s run into the Hibs box, passing the ball to Andreu for his attempt, and then the nearie by Spittal come right after Spittal`s dafty.. Many hands on heads.
Dafties
Shat mysell when Durnan made a bit of a chunt of it with a tippy-tappy pass which Boil picked up, but luckily he's stopped by Telfer and has a fake dive. This started the Hibs fans booing. Just after this Telfer is fouled and the booing starts again when he gets a freekick. Holt is moaning like phuck.
On the 30 min mark. Willo under pressure makes a poor backpass to Durnan who plays it too light across the goal, no sure if it was meant for Bell, but Edge has to ward off Holt for Bell to clear.
Spittal`s backpass from the halfway, dont know who the phuck it was meant for, but goes passed Edge and Boil runs thru to collect it. Only thru a poor touch by Boil and Durnan intervening allows the ball to land in Bell`s hands. FFS. Flood has a similar dafty when he backpasses from the half-way line to Edge who just manages to backpass to Bell.
2ND half
Noticed some of our players slip-sliding away, notably Cammy Bell a few times. Cold damp musta been affecting the surface.
A minute after the restart, there was a long ball to VDV who IMO shoulda made more of it when he was 1 on 1 we the Hibs defender. Kinda shows what a lotta fowk`ve been saying that he`s no a striker. The follow-up attempt from Telfer was very reminiscent of his 6th against the BNBs last year. There was a great shot by Telfer with a ball in from the left from VDV, and Marciano parries it away toward the JK. Fraser`s Yellow for diving comes from this, but I canna honestly comment on whether it was a dive or not.
Hibs Pen
Toshney takes the ball from Shiney with a poor touch, and it bounces away from him and goes toward the by-line, Boil runs in, and Toshney tries to clear it but his foot is high and he hits Boil. Penalty or not, Bell the magnificent saves it. Place goes phucking mental. Fraser is fouled at the edge of the box and play stops. Remember seeing Holt going mental at Boil. Turning point in the game mibbee?
Right after this, Madman blows for a free-kick near the dugout. As Flood tries collect the ball Holt has a strop, grabs him and throws him. Think he then mibbee elbows Andreu. Shoulda been a RED for this chunt. Of course Flood had a go and it all kicks off.
Oor Pen
Murray down the right, right into the Hibs box, and Fontaine takes him out. Phuckin Pen ye bass. Place is hyper.
Dafties
Another slack backpass to the keeper from Durnan.
MOTM for me Willo

See our penalty, how come Fontaine wasn't sent off?

New rule is if it's a penalty for denying goal scoring opportunity then it's not a red card. Still a red if it's a FK outside the box tho. Doesn't make much sense to me, but that's the rules now.
