Most famous person you've ever met?

Can't really think of too many famous people i have met.

A few Utd players and other assorted Scottish footballers on nights out in Glasgow.

Got handed my HND college certificate by Nicola Sturgeon many years ago.

The best was speaking to Wee Jim in his office with Motherwellarab in the early noughties.

Yours?

The President elect of the Disjointed States of America that first time he came to Scotland a decade or so ago.

And about 28 years ago I stopped the car I was driving near Balmoral to let a wifie on a horse with a headscarf instead of a riding hat cross the road and when she waved thanks it was The Queen of England.  I about pissed masel laughing!

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

Football wise the most famous would prob be Gazza.

Met loads tho, Sat with Tony Higgins & Billy McNeill at a dinner.  Was in St Andrews for a few nights wee while back and went in for breakfast to see Davie Moyes,Alan Stubbs and Badger sitting at the next table so had a wee chat. Ended up on a private party with the whole Rangers squad the night they won the league in 96.  Met Dalglish a couple of times, Walter Smith, Brian McClair, Scott Brown, Ian Black (last 2 were dicks). Quite a few others.

Obviously loads of Utd and ex Utd players, pretty much all of the from the league winning squad. Used to speak to Ray regularly in the passing.

And of course my ultimate hero Jim McLean.

Away from football also met a lot of golfers Seve and Jack Nicklaus being prob the most famous.

Met Henry Mcleish a lot, lives nearby, Gordon Brown, princess Di's mum (boot).

Fuck knows who the most famous is out of that lot but the man I'm most pleased to have met and spoke to over his best years was certainly wee Jim.

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

Met Sir Alex outside Tannadice aged 12. Had a good chat considering my age. Just afore we played Barca in 87'.

Met John Major who was Pri-minister at the time at the same age.
He pulled up in a tour bus in the town I was at high school at the time when it was lunch time so the advisor's maybe thought 1800 additional kids on lunch break might make is reception look better volume of people.

But I was 1st cunt in front of him as he got aff the bus. STV & BBC cameras filming but as he reached for my hand to shake it I pulled it back at the last second and put my thumb to my nose and blew an immature raspberry.

Old lady doon the road saw it on the telly and baked me a cake and brought it round  in appreciation.

Totally forgot i had the pleasure of meeting the Scottish composer Evelyn Glennie many years ago (i wrote a piece of music that my school played at this big concert she had where selected schools had to play a piece they had written about a certain subject).

She seemed very smiley going by my very hazey recollections now (going back 25 years or more).

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

Met Walter Smith, Ally McOist , Jim Duffy and a few others in Tokyo the night before Scotland won the Kirin cup and a few players the night after. In Sydney whilst working as a laborer I was sent for the lunchtime order from the nearest shop. When I arrived, there was some hot burd shouting at the staff as they wouldn't serve her fags because they thought she was underage. I went outside for a smoke while waiting on my order and she came up to me with her cash and asked if I could buy her fags. Turns out it was Isla Fisher. The very next day at the same place the bird who played Trinity asked me for a light while I was outside. The boys on the building site thought I was the biggest bullshitter going!! Lol.

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

The Shed has reminded me I met my golf hero Tom Watson a decade or so ago at Royal Aberdeen.

And Phobia that I've met Sir Alex too a couple of years back, but I thought he was a grumpy bassa.

In the late 1980s I played on the now GA Arena and went on a mazy from the half way line towards the East End goal beating half the opposition team in the process.  From between the pen spot and the 6 yard box I looked the goalie in the eye and decided to finish things off by blasting it past him. Unfortunately for cocky moi, in diving out of the way, the ball struck the goalie and I missed when it was literally easier to score!    To make matters worse (and unknown to me) Wee Jum was watching and at the end, he said to me, "Aye son, if only you could finish!!!"  Doh, Doh, Doh!!!

I just took her money and tried to buy the fags but the guy wouldn't sell them to me as he knew I'd give them to her. I asked if he knew who she was and that she was well over 18 but he wouldn't have it. That's as far as it went. Pretty sure one of the Dundee players pumped her while she was in Dundee--allegedly J. O'd.

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

Late 70s I was commercial manager at DUFC which is another story.
PotY Dinner Albany Hotel Glasgow the Dundee journos (John Mann, Dick D, Ronnie Scott etc) took me thro in a minibus.
There was about 400 there & I felt the most insignificant, way out of my depth.
Before proceedings  started I was introduced by one of the journos to Alex Ferguson, Aberdeen manager.
I shook hands nervously (I was in my 20s) quaking in my shoes.
A few hours later as the attendees assembled at the bar I found myself in a cluster with AF. He said to me 'What are your duties at Tannadice Graham?' (my christian name)
I was amazed that in a very large company at a a big event he remembered my name & took it upon himself to approach me.
He's not the most famous person I ever met, that was my Dad but I think it reflects very well on Alex Ferguson, the man, & I often relate it, last nite in the pub being the last time!

At the start of the dinner when we were sitting down I tumbled a pint of lager on the table, most of it over the lap of the person sitting opposite me. It was Roy Aitken, John Mann ghosted his column in some rag. Andy Ritchie won the PotY btw.

Carrie-Ann Moss ooft.

Its the possibility of situations like this that give me a slight tinge of regret at stopping smoking.

Lol. Same. 5 years since my last smoke now. Doesn't help that smoking is still allowed in most places here.

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

I was secretary of the Whitfield Activity Centre when Princess Anne officially opened it back in the 80s. She was wheeled around the place meeting and chatting to people. Not wishing to be introduced I went into hiding in a small room where she was not scheduled to go. To my horror the door opened and there stood our chairman, Bill Campbell, with a huge grin and saying, "This, Your Highness, is our secretary, a former chairman and founding member....."
The princess shook my hand, and we had a wee chat. I was really surprised at how warm and friendly she appeared. And I almost changed my opinion of the Royal family.  Almost.......

With reference to Bill Campbell, he worked in a gas place in Drumgeith Road, and lived in a small private housing estate nearby the bottom of Whitfield. . His wife was called Maureen, and they had 2 kids, boy and girl, I think.  He ws a fervent United supporter.  I have lost touch, and can find no trace of him. If anyone reading this knows Bill, or his current whereabouts, can you please pass me any available info?
Cheers......

Re: Most famous person you've ever met?

Sir Garfield Sobers. a bit grumpy at first but when I handed him a bottle of Cockspur he smiled.
Muhammad Ali very nearly. I knocked on his door in a hotel in Toronto but he either wasn't in or didn't answer.
