RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig hit the top of the Bundesliga tonight, coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at Bayer Leverkusen. 8 wins and 3 draws from their opening eleven games.

They've only been in existence for seven years, founded in 2007, backed by Red Bull. I'm unsure what to think of their progress, it's against the spirit of the Bundesliga although they've cleverly got around the ownership rules.

Is it any worse than all the foreign cash flooding into big clubs all over the world, possibly not? But it's disrupted the essence of what some supporters see as the best league in the world.

For me, a saving grace is Oliver Burke being there now, he came on when Leverkusen were leading 2-1 and played his part in the win.

Wondered what other folk thought about the rapid rise of RasenBallsport (but really Red Bull) Leipzig .

Re: RB Leipzig

Initial interest is the wonder of a Scottish talent but the league position expands my thoughts of comparison in rare success by underdogs like us.

Leipzig aren't there yet, but a great story if they stay up there. Leicester were a great fairytale  like Hellas Verona winning Serie A in 85 and Nottingham Forest before these times. Denmark and Greece winning the Euros in 92' and 04' too.

When you compare these surprises to us and ours there is an honest difference.  You can't compare international teams easily as they're a free selection of the best you have.  Leipzig and Leicester have mega money, the italian minnows won when corruption was rife. Closer comparison is mybe Forest with although a much bigger budget they had a similar managing influence.
Always like to see the underdogs give the glory hunters and big teams a surprise but not many fairytale minnow stories are as as raw or genuine as ours.

Re: RB Leipzig

I think any company or individual owning more than 1 club is dangerous to the SPORT.  Sending us down the road of corporate football, you'll have 20 companies owning a club in each of the big countries and the European tournaments will end up with a Nike select from their 5 clubs playing a Red Bull select from their 5 clubs.

The SPORT element of the game is almost gone as it is, and this type of ownership will only make it worse.
