Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Pick from an option below, or state your own preference.

Who would you like as new Scotland Manager?

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

I'd like to see Stuart Baxter get it.

Time to think outside the box a little and give it to someone (who although has Scottish blood) has zero association with either half of the Glasgow clubs and has a proven record of success abroad (therefore knowing a bit about football outside of our little Scottish fishtank).

Very intelligent man. Speaks a few languages and not only has a strong personality but has a proven track record and has also managed at International level previously (South Africa and Finland).

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Tommy Wright. Knows how to set teams up and get results.

Jackie McNamara's available.

As is Mixu.

Too much commotion

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

See all the talk about Michael O'Neill, why the fuck would he take the Scotland job?

He's managing his country right now, doing far better than Scotland have for decades and going to walk into a far better job.  Would be shocked if he was interested, it's not like it's a fantastically paid job either in football terms.

I don't think there's any great option out there  and don't expect to get excited when they do announce who it'll be.  Butcher and Malpas is my random guess.

Surprised Derek McInness isn't on ur list tho.

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Chesney has almost single handedly turned me off the National Team, but bizarrely I'd prefer it if he stayed, but just stopped being such an aloof smart arse (no gonna happen) and that he instead explained the reasons behind some of his quite frankly bizarre decisions!  He talks a good game and knows the game, so he can obviously coach.  I thought until Berra and Hanley (therein lies the primary problem) switched off momentarily (therein lies the second problem), the players carried out his game plan brilliantly and but for better decision making and finishing, Friday could have been a lot different.

We have been at our best when we have been dogged and pragmatic.  But that will not win you many games, so I think we need a 4/4/1/1 thing going on when we have the ball and 4/5/1 without.  We need speed down the flanks to counter attack and in the absence of a genuine playmaker, a robust and mobile midfield is a must.  I thought that Anya did OK for getting thrown in at Right Back in a game of that magnitude.  I'd like to see the team being built around these lines (assuming Brown is for now) back in the fold:

Gordon

Anya        ???        ???        Tierney

Ritchie/Burke        Brown        D Fletcher        ARob

Snodgrass

Griffiths

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

I've given no-one on the list a vote, although McLeish might be the safe SFA choice.

Appointing McInnes could have the impact of destabilising Aberdeen, so that might be an angle for the SFA too, good suggestion TheShed. McInnes also satisfies one of the key points to fit in at the Hampden offices, ex Rangers.

But it will make little difference who is chosen, without a vast alteration in outlook in Scottish football.

In fact, there is no 'outlook', every bit of thinking is focused inwards, suspicion, secrecy and blame being the KPIs in our game.

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

I went for Walter Smith as he got us out of a hole before and he's a pragmatist unlike Strachan who is trying to be too clever imo.

I can't stand this bullshit from Souness etc saying no-one could do a better job due to the standard of player. I don't think Northern Ireland's squad is any better than Scotland's and O'Neill has done a great job there.

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Strachan it is time to go . I am not alone in thinking that he is an arrogant wee prick this must be the mood amongst some of the players. Get T ommy Wright in he has a track record of decent results with shite players

Agree with this. McInness might do a good job BUT he's unlikely to get a look in.  So he'll be up the road for a while.

Strachan has spent so long defending the players there's nowhere else for him to go. He's NOT choosing or NOT playing the best people. Seems to have a clique going.

The thing that really bugs me is his downright arrogance towards the media - and so to us but then goes and sells his services to the TV as a pundit.

We need a manager that cares about results.

A' hes eggs are double yoakit!

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

I'd go down the foreign route--didn't work with Vogts but there you go. Japan rarely have a Japanese coach and hasn't done them any harm. Most of(if not all) their coaches haven't even been able to speak the lingo.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Seems it's academic anyway, as the SFA think, via spokesman Rod Petrie "Gordon Strachan is the national team manager, yes. He has done a good job."

While the Daily Record's Keith 'Off the Radar' Jackson (!!!) says "Gordon Strachan has told his SFA bosses he does not intend to quit the Scotland job despite losing last week’s win-or-bust showdown at Wembley."

No change in Scottish football, it appears.

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Saw that in the Hampden Car Park Pat.  Cringeworthy it was!  Here's hoping the HIVees are getting run along similar lines eh?

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Thought he'd be staying: changing Strachan would have been an admission of guilt from the hierarchy..................

.............. who are more guilty than Strachan!

Re: Who should replace Gordon Strachan?

Awful indecision and inability to act from the SFA,as per.

5 months till the next International match and plenty of points to be win yet.

Should have got Strachan out on his wee short arse and got somebody in and attempted to salvage this qualification campaign.

Hell mend the bastards.
