Has anyone been watching this show on Netflix, I started it on Saturday night and Mrs Sieb and myself finished it in the early hours of this morning after binge watching the last 5 episodes on Sunday night. It was amazing.
The 8 episode series is basically like if Steven Spielberg (in his 80's pomp) done a Stephen King story.
The series itself is set in the 80's, with spot on fashion, hairstyles and a great soundtrack as well (The Clash and Toto together at last!) as well as a great original score ripped straight from a John Carpenter movie.
To go into too much plot detail would ruin the fun and surprise factors, all I will say is that it deals with a small town and a young boy goes missing. It has three sub plots running through it with the adults storyline (the mother of the child and the local sheriff), the teenagers arc (the boys older brother and some of the other class mates) and also the children, the missing boys friends, and all are trying to find out what happened to him. That's all I will say.
It might not be to everyones taste, but if your a fan of Stephen King and Spielberg and 80's movies in general then this will be up your street. It's a real love letter to these types of movies with clear references and feels to the likes of E.T, Stand by Me, The Goonies, Poltergeist, The Thing, Alien, IT, The Stand, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Carrie, Jaws, Halloween and even later stuff like Super 8 and Silent Hill.
All the actors performances were spot on, particularly the young girl who is featured prominently in the posters. One of the best series I have personally ever seen, only negative I have is the CGI was a bit hokey near the end, but its not a big blockbuster movie and is low budget with a cast of relatively unknowns bar Winona Ryder and Mathew Modine (Joker in Full Metal Jacket) and it fits in with the 80's feel.
In closing, if your a fan of those films previously mentioned then you might get a kick from it, I may have a biased opinion as I love anything Spielberg-esque and early Stephen King stuff, but Mrs Sieb doesn't have the same affection for that kind of things and she loved this series as well. I can't wait for a second series...

Glad you enjoyed it Slateford I told my mum about it last week as she has Netflix, but only uses it for when the Grandkids come over. She started watching it last Sunday night and by the next night she watched all 8 episodes!
I'm re-watching it again with Mrs Sieb, its still just as good as the first time seeing it.

Liked that version too.
The soundtrack's class.
The Clash, Joy Division.... even a bit of Toto thrown in for good measure.
I'm finding it a little bit slow. I've watched the 1st 2 episodes...

Finished it over the weekend. Overall I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to Series 2.
Found the last episode a strangely emotional watch. Not just because it gave a bit more detail about the tragedy that befell Hopper but also because the wee boy who was missing really reminded me of my own wee boy.
Felt the ending was slightly ambigous to say the least but I suppose with series 2 in the offing that was always on the cards.
The clothes, hair and early 80's vibe was totally spot-on btw,Siebby was right.
Soundtrack was decent too.
