Striker

This big target man who kens where the goal is can hold the ball up well

When will we get him?

Re: Striker

Higdon is a free agent apparently.

We are going to need one for sure.
Not just for scoring goals.
When we were under pressure from raith last week, we need to be able to knock the ball up front and for it to stick for a while. Maybe even win a few free kicks. Murray isn't intelligent enough for that so the ball usually comes straight back.

Re: Striker

Fair play to the manager he has waited a long time to get quality in and the 3 new boys are quality indeed but yes we desperately need a striker ASAP.

Its the final piece of the jigsaw and I'm positive we'll get one in the 2 weeks

Re: Striker

Higdon would be a poor signing, mind only in my opinion. Can't understand folk wanting him at Tannadice.

Yet a bigger 'target man' might be an asset as an outlet, getting a scorer is a difficult job. We thought Billy McKay would be a big player last season, he wasn't.

It's a hard job Ray has, trying to find something better than we have.

Re: Striker

Higdon's 33 now. And done poorly at his last two clubs.

I'd be happy with Ofere back. He'd score goals in this league.

Re: Striker

I thought we would have got one end of windoe a loan deal for soneone who was upto speed on ore season and fit raring to go.

We sign one 2/3/4 weeks down kike may take them a few more weeks to get upto speed. Its the only part thats a worry

Re: Striker

Ofere is still without a club.i heard we made an offer a while back but he didn't like the new terms.
He might reconsider now.
I think if we got rid of one or both of the bomb scares, moves would have been made.
Maybe we can agree a release without paying up their full contracts if they can line up another club.
I hope that's what the club are working towards

Re: Striker

I'd take the big lad that scored for Malta last night! He made a nuisance of himself...

They can't sign for anyone until the next window now
You have to be a free agent before the window closes

True but I'm sure we could do something underhanded along the lines of. You assume you're a free agent and get a new deal sorted, we don't want a fee, when you've got your agreement we will release you.

The issue with this is that their new deal will be considerably less than their current one (can't see them moving to Russia or China unfortunately....) so they'll want paid off to leave.

If the remainder of their contract is worth say £100k and they get lined up on a new deal at say £60k I would be happy for United to pay £20k to release them.  Rather than a loss of £20k to me it's a saving of 80k on boys we are contracted to but don't want.

ETA - Just read your post again Beardy, "you have to be a free agent before the window closes".  I didn't know that so my thoughts above don't work until January 1st then.

Re: Striker

That was my thinking as well Andy.
Beardy has well and truly pissed on my chips

Another example of why these windows don't work for the smaller teams

Re: Striker

It shouldn't take this long its fuckin ridiculous, if the money is there use it!!

I know its been a rebuild but the specialised postions should have been prioritised....we waited far too long for CH's and we still don't have a proper or good enough number 9

Pissed right off after Falkirk result

Re: Striker

Haha BH that would be good

However the powers that be would not allow that in as everything we do has to be shown to them before hand

Re: Striker

I'll not be the only one, but every day I look in here hoping that someone has got a snippet of information to encourage me that United are trying to get a striker in.

So, sorry if someone else is looking in thinking THIS was the very post with that encouragement.

See being optimistic, it can be very depressing when relating to United.

Re: Striker

Any ideas Pat who this 'striker' who's going to transform our season might be?
Any names in the hat?
Are we still talking Higdon-ish etc?

Re: Striker

We need a higdon type player, we punt the ball up the field and it just come back we need striker who can take the pressure off us by holding on to the ball and linking up the play

I do not have a clue, smeDUm.

But hope Nick vdV plays up front tomorrow, as according to all comment from fans I've heard, he caused problems on Tuesday there.
