Goodie has had the weight of a rape allegation heavily restricting his career, and still on-going.
Barry Douglas was much underrated by a large number of United supporters, management too.

Goodie was great for United, Barry Douglas was mince for United.
One is a cup goalscoring legend, the other, pfft.
Move along.

Goodie for me too. Genuinely felt we had one of the best Strikers in Britain on our hands from 2010-2012.His career has just went nowhere really since he left Utd that first time.
Player who left who I didn't think would amount to much was Paul Caddis. He's went on to have quite a good career in England.Has played over 200 games and Captained Birmingham City as well as Scotland U21.Was also fully capped earlier this year.

Agree 100% with both points.

Blackburn wouldn't play Goodie up top, preferring to stick him out wide which is not the kind of player he is.
Didn't come back the same player that left. On his return, he ran about a lot because he wasn't getting the service - trying to force something but again it wasn't his game.
Feel sorry for him and am sure a decent run in a team would see him get back to a decent level

from memory goodwillie played up front in three games around christmas, when their first choice (yakubu?) was suspended, and he scored in each game. after that he got shunted out wide
Charlie Mulgrew is one player who has surprised me after leaving united

I think the concept of this thread (a good one) has been missed by one or two.

sorry if I missed the point TEK
Thought he was going to leave united and be a big deal - Duncan Ferguson. Ok, he won an FA cup and a shit load of money, when he first came on the scene I thought he would be leading Scotland to world cup finals and playing for Manchester United or Liverpool when they won English and maybe European titles.
Thought he was going to leave United and do nothing - Mulgrew or Sturrock the manager.

I also thought Goodie was going have a fantastic career in premiership, he's probably my favourite united player of last 20 years

I really thought GMS would leave us and go on to have a top-top careeer (in the years prior to him going to Celtic).
Up until getting jailed David Partridge (who I thought was mince) had actually been working his way up the levels steadily. He did well at Motherwell, moved down South (to Bristol City?) was a regular there, got several caps for Wales etc. It took a total nosedive after that mind you. Is he still playing in Ireland?

Thought he would leave and be a big deal - There's time for this one yet but I thought wee Gauldies career would be flying by now.
Thought he would leave and do nothing - hard to think of too many who have went on to do massively better than Utd TBH, certainly many who you didn't see coming. Possibly go back to Alex Cleland who did well in a decent Rangers team and while he was decent for us, didn't really see him being much better than that.

Gave a bit of time to this the day.
Thought he was going to leave United and be a big deal – Ralph Milne
Thought he was going to leave United and do nothing – Tommy Coyne or Lars Hirschfeld.
