FFS ditch this 1 up front formation.
We are better than that and 442 surely is the way to go especially at home.
We really should fear no one in this league.

Played well for most the first half.
Second half quite poor and felt if they had scored at 2-0 then they would have got a draw as we had sat back that much from.the first.
I dont think the performance overall was worthy of a 3-0 win and against another team we would have struggled yesterday as Ayr vwry very poor harkins apart. But still its 3 points and a much needed 3 points at that and hopefully is the start of a run.huge one next week.

Agree with you Sieb, but we have the most demanding (yet loyal re turning up) support in Scotland. As good as we were first half, we were just as poor second half. That will baffle and concern the Manager. But IMO we were never in any danger, albeit two nil up and dominating is a dangerous score if you concede and you lack mental toughness! Mental toughness on the park is not helped by the fact that one poor defeat and all the same old bobs to the surface of the Tannadice pool. What's done is done. We are where we are. But this is like yer wife always harping back and nagging you about a past indiscretion. We are a work in progress as the Manager has had to start from scratch, but I'll say again what I keep saying. IMO Raymondo has a jigsaw picture in mind and he knows the pieces he needs to complete the picture (as opposed to the last two incumbents who bought jigsaw pieces and then tried to construct a picture) and with budgets being so tight, he's obviously not gonna panic. I'll be delighted when we are under new fit and proper ownership, but I've always had a fear of "what if" the sale of Dundee United led to the end of Dundee United and a merger? That would signal the end for me. I could handle a ground share, as that would make sound financial sense, but never a merger.

Ray is trying to change not only a playing staff but a culture of loss - it's going to take time.
Perhaps in the players mindset, they came out the traps, scored a couple and by half time the game was finished - so they just played out the second half well within their means.
Last season we were punished for it over and over - so hopefully ray can do something about it.
Tbh I think there are still a core of players with questionable attitudes left at the club and as long as they remain, then rm has a lot of work to do, to try to turn that round.

Agree mate.
We all knew it wasnt going to be easy we just want the best team on the park as possible and we need another couple of players to leave imo

At a 50th last nicht so didna hae time to post.
Overall the better team. 1st half excellent.
Strange to see Murraymints and Van the Man fighting over the ball for the penalty. Said to my buddies that Murray should be taking it, after all he is a striker (and the only 1 on the pitch). VDV took 2 steps back then puffed it. Only quick thinking by Murray crunching it in.
Robson MOTM for me, even excluding the fact he scored. If he had only had somedy in front of him up the left wing, we might've done much more.
Great move by Tope no long after he comes on, to provide assist for Willo. Can remember Willo scoring for the SSB from a header no long after he went to there, and remember saying that I couldna remember scoring from the head for us, but I'm happy to eat my hat now. Great performance from him.
Fraser played well yesterday. Apart from a couple of wayward attempts. His turns and close ball control, are growing on me.
Donaldson. I remember him making a chunt of it in the 1st half near the corner flag, when rather than clearing, he tried to keep the ball with 2 or 3 Ayr guys challenging him. He loses possession, and they end up with ball in our box. Came to nothing thankfully. Later in the 1st half tho, got to give him great credit for the header he made in the box while on the deck preventing Ayr player from having a pot at goal.
2nd half was bizarre. It's like us all over again, where we play brilliantly for a period, then you think it's a mass comatose. There was a 6 minute period in the 2nd half where Ayr never touched the ball. Great, but a lot of thst was us playing across the back.
1 up front I dinnae like. Murray like a lone wolf, with 3 defenders in line with him.
Ayr didna look a great side. They had a few good moves from individual players, including Fatty Gerkins, but on the whole looked a bit Ayry Fayry.

Eh agree wi you Ian though eh hink we're stuck with 4231 until we can bring another striker. For me we have to bring in a target man to let Murray play off of, also when we do come under a bit of pressure, as we did for some periods of the 2nd half, it's good to half the long ball option to relieve pressure. Currently we don't have that.
On to yesterday, thought we looked great first half, for me Fraser VDV and Smith have to be our starters if we play 4231, seem to have very good chemistry which should only build as the season progresses. Murray was his usual spritely self and done well to follow in for the penalty. Thought Dillon was excellent tbh, bar a few stray passes, certainly seemed mare reliable than Donaldson.

I'm not a formations man but I will say when we're moving the ball about well like in the first half v Thistle and some of the first half v the Wee United on Saturday it's like we're playing 4-2-4.
And we do play better down the hill towards the ET as in the first halves of the aforementioned two games.

One player really sticks out for me... Jamie Robson.
Not just for his goal and runs forward. Look how many headers he wins in our box.
Brilliant prospect for us.

Hopefully, right now I can't help but think he's a brilliant prospect for someone else tho.

Thought he had a good game on Saturday again, one of our better performances.
If he has a good 6 months there'll be queue of managers looking to entice him away for a relatively low price largely to take advantage of our current financial position and get in before the price goes up like with Andy Robertson.
United will as usual perhaps will find it hard to resist any sensible offer !

Looks like his spurt in growth and spell at CB is paying off.
The Bucket Trail has done him no harm either.
Did he return to the Overgate after the game?
