Re: Stoke City bid turned down

Im a bit disappointed that Utd have sold Harry. I can see the reasoning that we need defenders with quality and experience now but selling your potentially best future asset now before we've seen anything of him sparks of real short-term thinking. It also highlights the shite that Thompson has left us in when we can't cope financially with relegation after taking in the kind of transfer fee's we have since 2012 and are forced to sell our kids for a song to finance a couple of signings. Not good.

Oh. Not sure how to feel about that.

All depends on what is done with the money really, wether it's spent, well spent and the potential add ons if we've sold a star of the future.

Pretty much sums it up.

Short-term thinking is what got us where we are and its forcing even shorter-term thinking.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

We really need to know what the fee is to try and work out if this is a good deal for the club or another Thompson fuck up.....the fact they are trying to keep in under wraps has my cynical side buzzing.

Obviously Ray needs money for players and ST has failed to invest money or find outside investors

I'd imagine ray will get some of the fee to spend and the rest will go to keeping the club afloat.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

I'm swayed a wee bit on this one tbh Lads.

As I said above it's a wrench to see yet another young prospect depart our club before we've even had the chance to see him kick a ball in anger.

BUT...

If we get say 500k (for arguements sake) even if we give half of that towards the soft loanees debt (the seemingly never ending debt that was such a great deal for the club) then that still leaves us with 250k to give to Mckinnon. That's 4 new players on a one year deal (and on a decent wage level).Four players is what we need minimum imo.

At the end of the day the laddie could go on to be the next Ron Yeats. But he could just as likely end up the next Col Donaldson (had a trial at Man Utd 3 years ago, then signed for another EPL side for a fee).

It's the gamble we take and sadly the state the club is in currently we have no option really but to throw the dice here and gamble.

There better fucking be movement in the next two weeks though as regards players signing. And a lot of it.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

There's no danger we're getting 4 players out of this. 2 maximum and the rest will be used to pay off whatever loan is decided to be most important this time (probably STs again).

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

Agree with the consensus, needs must this season unfortunately, we have to get up this year and if that means selling 10 years of potential for 12 months of stability then we have to do it.

We need an experienced centre half, we actually need two but I doubt we'll get that.

If £250k added to the kitty is what we think then I think we'll get one defender and one striker on permanent two-year deals and probably a young kid on loan from England for the season.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

Sorry lads but not a single penny of this will be going towards the debt, it is being used to keep the club afloat. Looking forward to seeing the spin they put in this one. Can't see a single positive from watching another promising kid go out the door so more money can get lobbed into the Thompson Black Hole. Fukin depressing.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

I dont hold out much hope for the fee being that big more than likely made up of addons we wont get.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

Seems the deal is 400k plus add-ons.
200k upfront and 200k early next year.

The Courier reporting that it's half of that. £100k + £100k

Yeah I seen that.

You'd think they'd know better because of Spence.

Strange because we'd reportedly knocked back a bid of 350k in June

I guess we won't know the proper amount (or not until next years accounts are published anyway).

If that is the amount though (100k+100k) it's too cheap.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

If its 100k + 100k that is absolutely shocking. Thompson must be desperate seeing as we knocked back a much higher bid in June? Cunt.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

£100k in installments over 48 months then another £100k if Stoke with the Champions League.

£50 more if they retain the Champions league.

Tidy.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

As HeggyHandshake is saying this deal is probably for cashflow reasons.  Club needs investment and if none forthcoming then we have to sell.
One man has caused all this.

And that same man could and should fix it. He won't tho.

Are we really surprised that he's not got a Scooby Doo how to sort it though ?

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

The usual head in the sand brigade saying this sale is to find new players, we are still waiting on the other Soutar and McGowan money getting used for the same players. Fukin brutal.  Are we away to get the last minute panic signings yet again??

There's a difference between hoping some unbudgeted income allows us to sign a better player than we are currently looking and having our head in the sand.

You know we are looking to sign two players, and the chances are the closer we get to the window closing the more risky these signings will be, that's the nature of the transfer window and almost all clubs, minus the big hittets, who buy in the last day will be panicking to a certain extent.

I bet Ray is hoping that some of the Souttar money goes into his budget, and surely the money received from the sales you mention has went towards signing Flood, Murdoch, Toshney, Bell etc and paying off Anier, Paton etc.

If the club is in as bad a financial state as the head out of the sand brigade seem to think then the chairman has been completely reckless in his backing of the new manager thus far.

You can't have it both ways though.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

I agree with you mate, we will get more signings as we are so short,  I don't think Ray has had too much backing it's the money pissing out everywhere else that the problem.  It was people at the club who told us we are in a bad way financially. They should tell everyone so we know where we are.

Re: Stoke City bid turned down

Seems to be taking a bit of time this transfer. He supposedly went for talks last Friday.

Wonder what the hold up is? Maybe Utd trying to get a player from Stoke on loan as part of the deal? Or the add-on's being an issue?

Seems to have all went quiet.
