The best part of Spencys statement "we can either whine or get wired in" well said sir.

He was Whining last week. Now he's getting a wage from the Club. Gives me the boak.

Obvious question for me is why could Joe Rice or David Southern not liase with the fans?
Why do we need to appoint someone else for this role when every penny's a prisoner currently?

If you're going to be transparent with the fans and communicate more, all you have to do is tell the truth. Doesn't need anyone special to say it.
If you're going to spin stuff to try and get people on board, you hire a pr man to advise what to say, who is in the main highly respected with the people you're communicating too and therefore more believable.

Wonder when he offers the first fan a square go

Maybe the cull isn't over. One or both could be next to go. Let's face it, neither would be missed.

Good to see our PR man 'liaising' openly with fans tonight.
Mans an embarassment.

What has Jim done to rock the boat now? Genuine question. Can't see any reference to him on Facebook or the internet (except on here).

Stirring shit on Twitter and deflecting attention onto other things while ignoring the real issues. For someone who the club is paying money too, his manner with fans is pathetic.

For a man whose job was to liase with fans it seems he's doing his utmost to try to divide us.

Cheers
I used to like Spence because he would report things as they were. Now, its like he doesn't have the balls to do the job he was brought in to do and as a result he's closer to doing the exact opposite of his original job description. Sounds like he's not as good a spin doctor as he thinks he is.

I don't have anything against Jim Spence but his appointment and role is completely unnecessary and a waste of much needed funds.
Even if such a role was needed I'm not sure he's the man for the job. Not thick skinned enough and can't help but stir the pot a bit on Twitter which is the last thing that is needed right now.
Noticed he was asking a high profile Arab last night what he thought of a Dundee merger and commented that there were people who would seriously invest in such a venture if they could pull it off (or words to that effect). He's quite cryptic at times. His whole Twitter output in recent times is curious. Can't help but feel he's getting the lines blurred as to what his remit at the club actually is.
Is it to engage with the fans or is his role bigger than that? Actually that should be a question for Thompson in this interview. What actually is Jim Spence's remit and role at the club and why was his appointment necessary?

Think you've nailed it there tek, it's a major problem when your 'head of communications' prefers to be cryptic and likes the odd 'in the know' post as well.
After thaw last couple of years if such a role was required the basic need is for a good communicator and a straight talker

Agree Macho. Of course, now he might no be able to openly report on how things are, because that would be criticising his employers, and that might no go down too well in certain quarters. His job description might be a lot different to what we think it might be (eg. Deputise for the Chief Spin Doctor)

He's a freelancer, who does occasional work for United on a time and materials basis, which was a fucking bizarre decision from ST as his other freelance gig is local sports columnist....
Anyway, it's not worked, this interview won't work, the Chairman attending a Fed meeting in person won't work. The relationship between the chairman and the Fed, and a lot of unaffiliated United fans, is irreparable.
For us all to move on the Thompson's need to sell United, for that to happen we need a buyer that will do better than the Thompson's, which is easier said than done.
PS why the fuck is Spence hinting that someone who can't be named is interested in both city clubs to amalgamate them?
Offline
Not being a Twitter user, I'm very concerned if a club employee has recently been hinting in any way at a city amalgamation, especially when that recently appointed employee appears close to the inner sanctum at Tannadice AND if speculation about fees such as Souttar's being required to keep the lights on at the club is accurate.

Had a lot of time for Spence in the past but I will never in my life support a merger.
Would appreciate if someone can post a screenshot of the hint to digest.
Thanks in advance.
