A few weeks ago on bt sports Chris Sutton said the pair of them are awful and never footballers now Sutton might be a knob but he was 100% spot on in what he said, it actually shows how bad the standard of Scottish football is that both have actually made it as professional footballers

They are two central defenders who helped get us relegated: however, I'm sure Ray is aware of their shortcomings, and is trying to address the matter.
At least I fuckin' hope so....

Donaldson was signed by Harry Redknapp for money.
Must have been a brown paper envelope job.
The lad is never a Centre Half.

Incidentally we paid money for Toshney?
Wow.

I'm hoping Toshney is a better centre half: maybe needs must presently. But I'd have Spittal at right back to utilise Toshney in the centre: who to drop though?
And, although a solid defence is a confidence booster for the players further forward, these players up front haven't managed to score against a relegation favourite.
Presently we are using Tope as a striker when he isn't suited to the role, as we are short in that area. I've heard folk complain about letting Arnier go when we had no replacement, but it may be Arnier's Kalmar opportunity had to be settled quickly, which, in the long term, suits all parties.
Give it a few weeks before we (really) panic, as, when we sit back and consider the end of last season, or even pre Partick midweek, most United fans were probably predicting the play offs, at best.
Just the performance against a rank rotten top league side gave us false hope of the present squad.

Have it good information that McKinnon is no a fan of Murray and if a cash offer were to come in (not much chance of that)he is offski. Unfortunately the sqaud is pretty threadbare and void of options if/when injuries and suspensions hit. Don't get me started on the two Centre Halfs 😡

Cash offer for Murray???
Good ain!
The whole team were pish today so singling out the CHs this week is perhaps a tad unfair, however the fact remains that neither is good enough and something needs done about it quick.

Agree with you there.
As poor as our defence undoubtedly is we have failed to defeat in the last month Forfar, Arbroath, Qots and Dumbarton.
In two of these games we haven't even scored in. The other two we've scored one goal in each.
The attacking players need to dig in and work harder to unlock the defences of these sides who are sitting in and making the game a battle.
Get the feeling we think we can just play our game and the result will come. This league you need to dig out a result. You need to battle to get on top in the game.
Dumbarton wanted that more than us today. That's the most galling aspect of the performance for me.

Not singled out this week, they are subject of crit every week. Bombscare that the team could benefit from being replaced, these two weren't good enough last year and team currently lumbered with them due to previous management failures.
It's been obvious for a very long time our defence is very weak and needing strengthened, hopefully this shall happen.
Beyond that midfield and strikers are another issue dividing opinion but we should defend from the front also......but generally don't.

They are shocking, I said it in a bit in jest on Tuesday night but they still had two heart in mouth moements in that brilliant first half against Thistle and the second half there was the penalty and another fresh air swipe.
They are without doubt the weak link that will damage our chances this season, we could do with a better keeper, a better winger, a better striker but what we have in these positions are good enough to get us up in relation to our opponents.
We all see that, and so does Ray, he's just not managed to get replacements in yet.

Yeah, I'm really hoping he's a right centre half too as I've not been impressed with him at full back.
On an unbeaten run of 12 games (incl 3 from last season) the inevitable first defeat in a long time is always going to be sore. Didn't necessarily see it coming yesterday but let's not go overboard, we have back-to-back home games now and an opportunity to repair early damage by accumulating 7 points out of 12 by the end of the month. The redeeming feature is that unlike previous managers the current one is most certainly not blind so do keep the faith, it's a marathon not a sprint.

What position did he play at Raith?

Right back a bit but mainly defensive midfield I think.

I might be making this up but I think I read they signed him as a centre half but played him in centre midfield.
I think he played right back for Celtic.

He definitely would be more effective in the defensive midfield role I think.

If anyone wanted them id let them both go.
Stevenage have been linked we donaldson a couple of times but nothing has really escalated. The club should have a word and see if they still want him.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Toshney is rank ,he's no better than the two dumplings in the middle IMO.

You ever said something positive?

Dished out plenty praise to Fraser Smith and Flood on tuesday night
After saturday I don't see much to post postively about, the glaring defincies are still there and I'm pissed right off as it's going to hurt us big time.
The last thing we needed was handing Hibs a rapid 5 point lead

I think Toshney would be a decent centre half, he just doesn't have the pace for me to be a full-back.
Donaldson and Durnan are rank rotten, I honestly thought there was something in Donaldson that a decent manager could bring out but I appear to be wrong.
Offline
First of all, toshneys not rank! I honestly think we are 2 centre backs and a striker away from being actually a good team, these players MUST come in this week
Offline
Donaldson actually has decent footballing potential but he'll never fulfill it unless he learns by playing beside a decent, experienced centre half. Durnan is just a poor player all round. His two identical cross field passes that flew into the stand at Dumbarton were just woeful.

Agree with this, this is not so much to do with ability of players, more to do with the " turn up an win" mentality for me.

Sure I read an interview where Thoshney said he'd only played midfield once at Raith.
