Re: Dumbarton v dundee utd

Would agree RM can't see the future in these players at all and must surely be targeting replacements.....time yet to find them before the window shuts else we've got a long season ahead.

Perhaps once he has his man (or men) available ST shall back him ....... Then D & D might get the message and do one to elsewhere.

Murray's 100% for United but not good enough either, not his fault he's been brought to this level.

Re: Dumbarton v dundee utd

I don't understand how every bad result it's the Chairmans fault but there's never a thread praising his efforts when we win?

Surely it has to work both ways?  If he's 100% to blame then we're awful against Dumbarton likewise the great performance against Partick Thistle was all down to him.

The last time we went down and came straight back up included a 1-0 loss at Dumbarton, I'll take that again.

History repeating itself, Partick in the play-off, cannae wait.

PS - I still 100% believe that Thompson, and everyone else responsible for taking our magnificent football club down should walk away and let someone else take over.  Easier said than done though.

Re: Dumbarton v dundee utd

Obviously not a good start but I'm sure we'll pick up points when not expected to. Will be a bumpy ride but United wouldn't do it any other way.

The glaring difference between this time and 96 is we had an SPL standard team and still managed to make a cunt of it only scrapping through in a play off..........we are a joke at the back this time and Murray and Obedayi are two of the worst strikers we've ever had.

We won't even threaten Hibs with this squad.

I would counter that by saying that the standard of opposition it relative, yes we had a better squad in 1996 but the standard of opposition was much better too.

Hibs have the best squad on paper, no argument there, their manager is a fud though.

Well be there or there abouts come April.

Obadeyi was shite yesterday I assume, I wasn't at the game and didn't hear it, he was great on Tuesday though and is better than most Championship players and I'd say the same about Murray - he's better than most in this division.

Re: Dumbarton v dundee utd

Watching that just brings home how much Dumbarton thoroughly deserved that victory.

Scored, hit the bar, had another two good penalty shouts, Bell had two good saves, and they peppered our goal with about half a dozen other half chances.

Meanwhile their keeper makes ONE real save (from Jamie Robson).

As their Manager Stevie Aitken said at the end, his players train 3/4 hours a week. Incidentally he himself (Aitken) works 40 hours a week in a factory in East Kilbride working as an Engineer.

This is the level Dundee United have been brought down to now. Yesterday I was just deflated and depressed (though not surprised),today I'm fucking angry.

Make no mistake this was no 'blip'. A fair chunk of the relegation squad is still here and these players have proven consistently that they don't have the mentality (or talent in some cases) to succeed or be successful in a Dundee United shirt.

That our two Centre half's are still Donaldson-Durnan is shocking in the extreme. That Robson is our only real Left Back option is poor. That we have one out and out forward is poor.

We need about 4 players and we need them NOW. Or else risk slipping further behind Hibs.

P. S. In 95/96 we spent circa 1 million quid bringing in players like Pressley, Coyle and Mcswegan. We also already had players like Malpas, Brewster, Welsh, Dailly, Mclaren and Winters at the club.

This team and our current position is in no way comparable imo.

I understand Mckinnon wanting to take his time but things need to move fast this week.

I hope to see at least one (fit) new defender or striker unveiled before we play Ayr.

And breathe..

Totally agree with you, we are nowhere near good enough to think we can go up with this squad as it stands.

Re: Dumbarton v dundee utd

Pretty sure it was nearer 2.5 million we spent last time we went down TEK. 1 million alone on Pressley and Sandy Robertson.  Whereas our current owner is hoping  crossing fingers, wishing bones, voodoo, rune stones and lighting a candle in the chapel will work instead. Should add that we took in 3.5m mainly through Petric and McKinley sales.

Absolutely spot on, we really are not in a good position at moment and hoping Ray's working away behind scenes to sort all this.

Re: Dumbarton v dundee utd

See when we are pointing the finger at ST, with a lot of justification, we are letting the players who performed abysmally off the hook to a large extent.

ST is sitting in praying for an Andy Robertson windfall. The players are a disgrace and RMcK is stuck in the middle.

Just watched highlights and some of that was dire, we really are all over the place at the back, needing some solid defenders and a bit of organisation urgently.

Recurring theme.

I think you're spot on and he was gambling on him being sold before now, even if we get money this month its going to give Hibs and others a healthy lead over us right from the off.

It would then take a huge winning run to pull it back.......

Spot on. He's gambled hull would sell Robertson.  That's his problem though.  Everything is a gamble, I don't think he has a proper plan in place.  Still hear spin about seeking investment.  it's all bloody spin!!
