Utd given permission to speak with Rory McAllister by manager Jim McInally.

I'm amazed that we would consider paying a transfer fee for a totally untested player at our level given.
1.We're broke
2.Our dire need for a Centre-Half
I'm not saying the boy isn't a good player (he may well be).But this move really surprises me I have to say.

Get what your saying, and yes we need a CH badly, but we also really need a striker. The fees not exactly gonna be huge.

We're far from broke and there are still funds available, even without moving anyone on.
Still surprised that we would go for him, I wonder if this means Anier has been offered a severance.

No sure about this one. the boy has a great scoring record over the last few years but he's said quite a few times he's not interested in playing full time. He's also 29 now and from a fitness point of view it's going to take him a while to get up to full-time fitness. Will trust RMs judgement though.

The boys record in the lower leagues is outstanding he has done for 5 seasons what El. Bakturd has done in one. no negatives from me just because Donaldson needs replaced replaced doesn't mean we should not go for another striker

I'd be stunned if this is a true story
We've been given permission to talk to him but no fee agreed as yet

Mckinnon was quoted just two days ago saying no one would be signed until players depart.
That is why I'm saying 'we're broke'. The budget is currently reached.
If we pay money to release Anier I'll be utterly dismayed. I don't think we will though. And we shouldn't.

I would think Ray McKinnon wouldn't say we have cash to spare in an interview, it's in the club's interests if we continue to cry poor. Not that I'm suggesting we're cash rich right enough!
I'm not sure this will happen. I'm sure McAllister had the offer of full-time previously (might have been across the road) and turned it down to go to Peterhead...
Just looked it up - He turned down St. Mirren in 2011

I didn't read that quote TEK, but know it's not the case, maybe more along the lines of what Pat says below about keeping our cards close to our chest.
We made an offer to an international defender who we were very close to getting, that doesn't come cheap.
The Anier issues is challenging, it's all about value for money, I don't think Ray sees him as being his first choice striker and on the money he's on he doesn't offer vfm, being one of our highest earners.
We've made an offer to Rory but we're pretty far apart in terms of our offer and his demands so it's not close to happening. As others have implied, he's on to a pretty thing in Aberdeen with his ft job and wage at Peterheid, has a young family too so it needs to be worth it for him at his age.

I'm sure i read he turned down full time football to get his apprenticeship completed so he had something to do after he was done playing and being at Peterhead was close to where he stays just outside Aberdeen so it made sense for him to sign there play part time and get his post football qualifications sorted.
If it was 2011 he'll be well finished and qualified now so he might feel a crack at full time football is there for the taking now before it's too late for him

He wanted 50% more than we offered him, fair enough, we move on.

Is money everything?
I'd rather tell my kids about playing and scoring for Dundee United in games at Ibrox, Parkhead, Hampden etc than recant the numerous U-bends I unclogged etc etc (nae offence ArabPlumber).
He could have always have went back to his trade at a later date anyway.
Anyway...his loss.

Sure he is in management, not on the tools
probably earns more than McKinnon does

Would have welcomed this signing if not too expensive as I liked his lower league scoring record. Brian Graham did similar in a higher league so that was in the back of my mind though.
Now it's off there is no gamble. Not much footage of him and what there is had some shocking goalkeeping.
On to the next prospect.
