Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

Our final group game of the Betfred League Cup essentially comes down to the old fashioned knock-out style Cup game that we are all accustomed to.

Win on the day and we will progress. Lose and we will be out the Cup.

I'd go with.....

Bell

Toshney
Donaldson
Durnan
Dillon

Murdoch
Flood

Van Der Velden
Smith
Obadeyi

Murray

Subs - Zwick, Anier, Fraser, Spittal, Robson, Souttar, Johnson

Game also now live on bt sport.

Would be good to see both clubs agree to further reduce gate prices for this game.

It's on my Sky guide for BT Sport 1 Billy, 14:30 start.  Coverage includes the draw for the second round.

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

So it's the eight group winners and four best placed seconds that go through.

As TEK said a win puts us through, and by my calculations a penalty shoot out victory should see us get one of those 12 places after tonight's results, it would take some freak results to knock us out with 9 points now.

I think we need to beat the Inverness margin of victory to finish top, assuming ICT win of course.  We're currently level on points and gd but I think if that's level then it goes on games won rather than goals scored, with them playing on Saturday we will know what we have to do.

Assuming (hoping) we do beat their result then we hope to be one of the top four league winners that are seeded for round two, it's going to be nip and tuck if 10 points will be enough for that, could be second best or could be sixth best depending on how other results go.

I think it's likely that us/ICT will be in a shoot out with St Johnstone for the fourth best group winner, whoever wins by most between us three will get the final seed.

Simple, well it was for the Fun anyway, they just decided to bomb out tonight rather than bother with the last game.

Must be Virgin's p1sh Andy, if you'll pardon the pun.

Virgin guide lists BT Sport 1 as showing 14:30-1715 Live: FA Women's Super League action as Arsenal Ladies take on Liverpool Ladies at Meadow Park.

Dinna suppose it matters if you're going to the match as I am. Just wouldna minded recording it, esp. if it's a good game, as we hope it will be.

Got that ladies game on BT Sport Europe on Sky Billy, hopefully it'll update on Virgin tomorrow so you'll be able to tape it.

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

So after tonight's results a 3pts win now guarantees qualification at worst as a best runner up, a win on penalties should still see us through also.  Reckon it'll be a tough game which hopefully we can edge through.

Time for Ray's strongest 11 to be picked and hopefully a fairly consistent team selection from here on in.

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

Best to get that top place, and have a chance of being a seeded team, thus avoiding a trip to Glasgow.

Morton, Partick, Alloa or Raith, ICT, St Johnstone and East Fife all potentially could get seedings, while Sevco are already guaranteed a home seeded tie. Think that's right anyway.

Having said all that, I'd rather get league points, and although going to the game on Sunday, won't be that interested in the League Cup unless/until we get to the semi finals.

aren't Sevco always guaranteed a home tie?

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

Sevco have had a ridiculous amount of home cup draws since they died, they even managed to get a neutral semi final turned into a home game......only in scotland!!

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

Looks like top place will be beyond us with Inverness four up at half time.

A win puts us through, albeit unseeded, as it stands now a penalty victory would be enough too and even a penalty loss might sneak us through on gd but I don't know if that would put Dunfermline second....

Away to Ibrox in round 2... Or East Fife.

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

By my sums a draw puts us through, even losing on pens would put us above Raith, East Fife and Dunfermline on gd and take the last place in the draw.

A win in 90 for the Pars would put Dunfermline through.

8 goal victory for us wins the group but won't get us seeded.

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

Hoping for any kind of win tomorrow just to get us in the draw.

I had a sneaking feeling at the time that Arbroath's equaliser may come back to haunt us. I hope that gut feeling is very wrong.

0-0 half-time.

Good start from United but died away, Murray had a couple of chances and VDV and Fraser close from distance.  Dunfermline have had as good chances as us tbf.

Robson playing well but both centre halves giving me the heeby-jeebies.

Re: Utd v Dunfermline - Sunday 31st July (3pm)

Half time -

0-0

Playing ok but we look a bit toothless upfront.

Back four still looks shaky (albeit young Robson's doing well).
