Just thought I would try and keep this section ticking along a bit.
Last film that I saw that surprised me in a good way was
Bought it years ago on DVD but didn't get round to watching it till a few months back. Surprised me in a good way of how invested I got in the documentary and its two main subjects. Really sweet and funny with classic good guy v the villain over the piece. Would recommend it for anyone who enjoys a good documentary or who likes their retro gaming.
Full movie is here

Last film that surprised me in a bad way, or maybe left me disappointed is a better phrase is
Loved the first one so much and had such high hopes from the trailer. A crushing disappointment all round.
This was my only laugh out loud moment in the film

'Sling Blade' starring Billy Bob Thornton (1996).
Didn't think it would be upto much but watched it on Netflix out of boredom.
Tremendous film.

I watched Deadpool last Saturday and thought it was utter shite. No story of any significance, poor special effects, jokes that were really aimed at 14-15 year old boys who've never had their hole and stopped being funny after about 5 minutes. Pity, because I was looking forward to watching it.

'l am Wrath' surprised me, as I thought it'd be shit, but I should remember John Travolta is usually a good entertainer.
Not too difficult to follow, as he and his pal set out to kill the other characters.

Watched 'Metro Manila' last night on Film 4.
Was kinda half watching it whilst browsing my phone (was on in the background).Completely reeled me in after about 10 minutes.
A Phillipino film with subtitles but made by an English Director.
Brilliant film with fantastic cinematography, acting, plot and soundtrack.
The ending was very clever inparticular.
Highly recommend it.

Another two I watched while away the last wee while: Brothers Grimsby and Zootopia. Both were much better than expected, Sacha Baron Cohen's latest was very crude and hilarious, much better than some of his previous efforts such as The Dictator, while Zootopia was very clever, aimed at more than kids. And very enjoyable with a drink.
On the other hand, Eddie the Eagle is pish.
All, of course, in my opinion.

Watched Napoleon Dynamite the other week, was hilarious.

Good shout Rodge, didn't think it would be my type of humour but it was really funny.

The youngest wanted to see the new Ghostbusters film so took the whole family to see it today.
I love the original, and sequel. The reboot didn't really put me up nor down when it was first announced to be honest, I didn't have any strong feelings either way, nor about it having four female leads.
The only thing I disliked about it was that it was being produced and released by Sony Pictures. When the email scandal hit Sony last year when lots of internal emails were leaked to the public you got a taste of how twisted and corrupt Hollywood actually is (not really a surprise though), and this just felt like a quick cash grab reboot from a studio who has already rebooted Spiderman 3 times(!!!), in 6 films, in the last 15 years.
The other thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was Sony twisting all the vitriol from the trolls on the internet to basically say if you don't like this movie then you are a misogynist. They needed to look at themselves in the mirror because their PR on this movie has been a disaster and the 2 trailers they put out have been awful. I believe you can polish a turd when it comes to movies and have really great trailers for shit movies (I'm looking at you Godzilla and Pearl Harbor!), but you can also make shite trailers for good movies (looking at you Star Wars: A New Hope!).
So I went into this movie with zero expectations, and I came out with a big smile on my face. I thought it was a very good film. Not an instant classic by any means but not as offensive as the trailers make out. It is not as good as the original, or even the sequel (in my opinion), but it was a very good film on its own. I thought the humour was good, the four female leads were very competent and well suited and the story was solid too. Some effects were a bit hokey and I could have done without the cameos from the original cast (minus Rick Moranis) as they only remind you of the original and how great that was, even though I enjoyed seeing Ernie Hudson's (Winston) cameo which was pretty much the only one not to feel shoe horned in.
If you go into the film with a clear mind and dont try and compare it with the original then you will have a fun time with it. Plus I think I have a crush on Holtzmann..

Good summary, pretty much my feelings on Ghostbusters as well. I saw it in Blackpool a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It was a pleasant surprise and I agree with you about Holtzmann, she's an absolute hottie.
Speaking of pleasant surprises, I went to see the new Star Trek last night with the wife. Must say I really enjoyed it despite going in with pretty low expectations after Into Darkness dreadful attempt to copy The Wrath of Khan. Seemed to focus more on the camaraderie between the characters instead of trying to rip off the old movies. Good wee nod to the 'Enterprise' tv series though.

Went to see Finding Dory at the pictures last night and thought it was pish, which was surprising as I can't think of another Pixar film I really didn't enjoy.
Watched Zootopia tonight and thought it was brilliant, as someone said on here previously a lot of laughs for adults too.

Finding it quite interesting and fascinating to see the complete juxtaposition between the new Ghostbusters film and Suicide Squad.
Granted I haven't seen Suicide Squad yet (burned out with all the super hero movies so usually wait till they go on Sky), but just sitting back and seeing the incredible job the PR people done on Suicide Squad, great trailers and marketing campaign, to the complete fail of the Ghostbusters PR team.
The hype that Suicide Squad got before the movie's release got all the internet fanboys so pumped up that it could do no wrong, even when all the negative and mediocre reviews came in for the movie, some people even started campaigns and boycotts against reviews and review sites for slating before they have seen the movie themselves!
And on the flip side with Ghostbusters which failed miserably in pre hype, PR and marketing, and alienated the 'fanboys', no matter how much good reviews and good word of mouth it got (currently Ghostbusters has a 73% good rating at Rotten Tomatoes compared to Suicide Squads 31% who takes aggregate review scores and puts them together) after its release it was all too little too late.
I can see Suicide Squad will open pretty big but will drop off the cliff like Batman V Superman at the box office in the coming weeks, likewise with the poor publicity Ghostbusters did they didn't even open at No.1 at the box office and had a slow fade out after that.
It just goes to show you how much PR is crucial for studio's, I can't see another Ghostbusters sequel after the numbers its doing just now no matter how much good reviews it got, but you can bet you will get a sequel/spinoffs/or even a reboot of Suicide Squad no matter how mediocre the scores are because it will make its money back easy.
This is not knocking Suicide Squad, out of the glut of super hero/comic book movies that have come out recently this looks the most interesting to me and will definitely watch it. But in closing, no matter if movies are good or bad it always comes down to the money at the end of the day.
