The first of the unwanted still under contract players will depart today as Paul Paton makes the short move down the road to Perth.
I'm expecting some real movement this week with more moves OUT and hopefully IN.

No loss at all.

Good, another dud away!

I've never slated Paton on here, or at matches, but I've often shook my head when watching him.
It's good that a high earner has left. Thought he might have been Ibrox bound, given his affinity for the blue cheats.

I thought he'd end up there as well. I wouldn't have been disappointed if he'd stayed but given his wages it is probably for the best.

I thought Paton was the catalyst in our brief turn around in form. There was his peach of a goal and his added grit in midfield before he got injured again. I think that when the Manager of the Year, who takes a workman like team to 4th despite losing his best player, decides to sign one of your players - then that's a big indication that you've let the wrong guy go! Great if you can get someone as good on half the wages but that's a hell of an IF

Ignoramus that I am, but what was the situation with his contract at United?

Loads of passion and grit, very very limited ability

On the physio table more than on the park too. Surely we must be looking at playing a system next season that DOES NOT involve 2 holding mids? That means the one you do play must have mobility and speed of passing/thought etc. Sadly Pates had neither. I'd pitch him somewhere between DOMT and SM's polar views. One of our big problems in the last 18 months was no balance, creativity, goal threat or incisiveness from midfield. That's what wins or loses you games; the midfield's ability to defend the defence; and their ability to support the striker(s). We were a complete fail on both counts and it's up to Raymondo to sort it out with signing players that are likely to be fighting fit for 8 games out of 10.

he definetly tried and had bit of passion for club so i wish him all the best for future ability wise he was very very average

Think he had at least a year of his contract to run, Utd told him he was free to find another club because they couldn't afford him (and others), Wright rates him enough to offer a contract (not surprising with his playing style) and Pates signs to play SPFL again.
Looks like win/win/win to me.

Pates is a battler. Good & strong in the tackle. Always knew ud get 100%.
Then there's the downsides.
After getting the ball and taking longer than most to get the ball onto his preferred foot, instead of a simple pass to someone, it was a few touches then world cup 50 yard pass out of play or a 10 foot 'lofted pass'.
Always looked like he was running against a hurricane too.

on official site now he has left the club.
good luck to the lad, he always gave 100% without question and although he was limited in certain aspects of the game you can never say he threw in the towel.
Arabest Pates until we meet again (hopefully next year!!)

A typically one footed Scottish player with the first touch of a rapist, no wonder our national game is fucked if he is a model pro.

sadly you are totally spot on mate i said earlier paton gave his all in games but if the brutal truth be told he is rank fkn rotten but due to state of our game he actually looks average to decent in scotland and will probably do ok with saints
