Dixon ??? Really??? Players like him got us relegated - big reputations and I imagine big wages ! At his stage of his career he should be a self motivator but he was a flop under Jay Mac and equally poor for Mixu. Of all the players who've been told to pack their bags he's the last one I'd make a case to keep! I know he's an Arab and a Dundonian blaa blaa blaa but what is suddenly going to change about him ? I'd have Paton and/or Rankin streets ahead of him on the last chance saloon rosta.

Agreed.

Pure sentimentally getting him a new deal.

Let's stop this negativity or 'realism' chat about how hard the Championship will be.

The aim is to win the title.

Failing that it's promotion.

ANYTHING else is failure.

That Falkirk team was better than ours last season, and we've done nothing to get better yet.  Once the signings come in we'll have a better idea if we've improved significantly or not.

It's not an easy league, that's a fact.  Don't see the problem with saying that.  Too many people at Utd have talked themselves better than they are for the last couple of years.  There's a time for talking things up and a time for realism.

Anything but promotion is a failure, that's also a fact.

I thought there was the odd glimpse of the Dixon of old in the second half of the season.

It may be though that RM is just making the best of the situation (ie nobody else wants Dixon) - and I strongly suspect well still be watching Durnan next season for the same reason (and Anier as well?).

All of which is going to limit the re-build quite a bit imo severely impacting on how many new players we can bring in.

I can't see many more if any of those under contract leaving.  He's talking 6/7 to come in to fill the squad to 22ish, that would suggest very few are going anywhere.

Easy league? No.

Hard league? Also no.

Falkirk did well because Houston had them fit, organised and they had a good spirit about them and never gave up.

If we can get all those attributes allied to some real flair and pace we will and absolutely should challenge for the title.

I don't want to hear the Manager talking about how difficult the second tier of Scottish football will be. I heard enough of Jackie and Mixu's excuses.

I want solutions and answers to what he will do to win us this title (which tbf he did allude to in the first half of his interview without actually stating it).

The most important thing for RM is to get the right balance, hard working players i.e Rankin Paton Dow are all good and well but if they don't have quality then their no going to win us games we Need quality footballers as well and with a couple of good experienced players to dog around let boys like Fraser and Spittal do what they want going forward and we'll be successful

Shedba Did you really mean to include Dow in your list of hard working players

It's been a slog oh a day,forgive me

Re: New players

Unpopular opinion but eh reckon many of the under contract players would still do us a job in the lower leagues. The end of the day our complete lack of creativity in midfield and some awful defending is what contributed to our relegation. A couple of wingers, and 2 or 3 experienced (tough as nails) players in centre Mid and centre defence and and a decent manager could probably drag us to promotion. I reckon the last 5 months of last season Mixus disastrous man management and poor tactics made our players look even worse than they were.

I'd imagine theres plenty teams down south who'd be happy to loan us a few creative players from their reserves / youth so that'll save a few pennies more than likely. See RM talking about loans in the paper last night ana, best way to go while we're trapped in the chanpionship thats for sure.

Re: New players

I notice that various papers today have Stewart Murdoch as pretty much a done deal.

Crap player but sadly due to standard of league he might do alright

Re: New players

Murdoch, as I mind, isn't really a bad player at all. It says something for him if he is prepared to step down a league, while still under contract in the top division.

And he did score the goal which put us out of the cup a number of years ago. He also won Player of the Season as I recall at Falkirk, before he left to play down south, where he was part of a squad which got promotion via a Wembley win.

So he's experienced, appears hungry and is at the right age.

Indeed. Its about building a TEAM. Anyone who thinks we are going to be signing the modern day equivalents of Maxwell, Shannon, Pressley, McKinnon, Bett, McQuilken, McSwegan, Coyle etc at a cost of about £2 million when we are in a lower league needs to get real.

We all ready have the modern equivalent of Maxwell in Szormnick both goalkeeper imposters. Any new signings need to be physical players, if we remain soft touches we will remain in Division 1.

We aint in division 1.

Its my opinion he's pish I have saw him a few times for county in games and I think he is a very poor footballer but as I said he may well do decent due to the fact the standard of the league we are in ability wise is laughable

Not at all it's also very poor in fact it's probably the worst top flight in my lifetime and that makes the fact we were relegated from it all the more embarrassing

Re: New players

Notice that Paul Gallacher has left Thistle - suitable keeper for the championship?

Was already coaching at Thistle so certainly fits that side of things.

Re: New players

According to RM (in today's courier)

"We may have at least one signing later this week – we are very close.

“We have also agreed to bring a player in on loan, we are close to making an offer for a goalkeeper and there is also a foreign player I am looking at, who I know all about.

“There will also be four or five trialists from down south who I will watch for a week or so during pre-season because I have said I won’t sign anybody on the back of watching a video."

Sounds promising.  None of these guys will be very exciting I'm sure but as long as they are players that Raymondo thinks can do a job in the Championship, that's fine with me.

A striker he knows well, perhaps somebody he had at Raith?

"I won’t sign anybody on the back of watching a video"  Are you reading that Jackie ya fud!

Wonder if the player in on loan is Kyle Knoyle returning.

Would be happy with that, looked a good wee player once Mixu actually gave him a chance.

Would be very happy to see Knoyle buck on loan for the season, British based keeper will it be a foreign one possibly?
