Indeed.  It also appeared that he was starting (slowly) to get Man U playing the way that fans, pundits and ex-players kept harping on about.  If they started next season with the team they've got now, with Rashford a year older, Memphis a wee bit more mature and their injured players, particularly Luke Shaw back fit, they'd make a push for top 4 easily.  Not sure many managers would've coped with the horrendous injury list they've had.

Its also worth noting that all the criticism going Van Gaal's way was coming from ex-players.  Not one bit of public dissent came from the current players.  Contrast this with Mourinho's last 6 months at Chelsea.  Even Dundee United's players downing of tools for Mixu and Jackie didn't match the way the Chelsea players downed them for the 'Special One'.
