New players

“It might take four to six weeks before we start bringing players in – there will be no rush."

Re: New players

The rumour doing the rounds on facebook yesterday is Goodwillie returning for a third spell. Unless were going back to 2 up top with a Daly style target man please don't bother united 😔

Unlikely according to the Tullie...

....and tbh I don't see anything happening until others have moved on....

Re: New players

No thanks re Goodwillie. Once bitten twice shy. He's been mediocre or keech at every team except us in his first spell.

Sort of agree to be honest JA. Reckon he would do a job in the championship but would much rather we went in a different direction.

Gomis, Dixon, Goodie,Gunning. The list of failed returnees to the club in the last couple years alone.

Re: New players

I'd take good Willie in a heartbeat....

Mcnamara didn't sign 1 striker who turned out well - he couldn't play them in his formation. Even ciftci was a number 10 rather than a striker.

On his second spell goodie was trying so hard to get the ball, he was playing back on the halfway line...that's not his game. As mentioned above, he needs a big lad to run off of and a bit of confidence.

Sheep pals tell me he was their best player at the start of the season but he got dropped and never got back in...

What's Christian made doing nowadays?

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: New players

So if we sign Goodwillie we need to sign another to play alongside him? No thanks. I'd rather we sign a big burly experienced striker to play alongside Murray--a guy who would run through glass walls for the cause--not a striker on his 5th? And possibly final chance.

Re: New players

A season in championship scoring goals and trust me he would could give goodie the confidence  he needs to get back on track, with the strikers kicking around he is absaloutley worth the gamble and I ain't gonna look at last stint here as hadn't played, if wages are low enough then take him,

Re: New players

he'd be a great rolemodel for the kids right enough

absolute waster

Re: New players

Goodies last spell at us isn't worth looking at.

Jackie signed Graham and Goodie, obvious replacements for Daly and Russell and then point blank refused to play them as a pair, neither of them are lone strikers, I'm still convinced they'd have made a decent partnership.

Problem is he's struggled since then aswell and that's the big question mark around him.

It'd be a gamble and we can't afford to gamble, but then isn't every signing a gamble?

If he's the best option available then I'd take him, but I'd be having a good look round first.

Re: New players

He has no club get him in see him training see if he has anything to offer, ray mkinnon may Bring out the best in him, if I was told Bodul left and we managed to sign goodie and sill hae a fair amount spare change from Bodul wages then I'd not be dissapointed tbh

Re: New players

I do admit I'd prefer Goodwillie over Bodul if the wages were a lot less. Much prefer Bodul to find a new club and a big hit man to come in though.

Re: New players

Re: New players

For some reason, I see Bodul sitting his contract out, is a similar way to Bobo Balde at Celtic in his last couple of seasons. Anier is maybe more ambitious, as he moved away from Erzgebirge Aue as he wasn't getting games and was willing to go on loan to Hibs last season.

For the sake of freeing up money, it would be good if they found other clubs which would pay them the couple of thousand each they are allegedly getting at United, but I very much doubt these clubs are out there. Moving these two players is probably the biggest problem to be faced by Ray McKinnon, and two huge nooses around the neck of the club.

They won't just leave without adequate remuneration being available elsewhere, and neither would anybody who posts on here.

Bodul and Anier represent the ghosts of a past management team which had little awareness of the value of money, possibly because they had been given relatively high salaries themselves as players during their active careers. Unfortunately, the board at the club too appear not to have understood what it is like to be in an unprivileged situation.

To be fair, maybe my post earlier today comparing him to Bobo drove him over the edge.

Re: New players

According to Mad, McKinnon spotted speaking to a boy called Stewart Murdoch who is a midfielder from Ross County. Big lad, was in and out for them last season but scored the winner for them against Celtic last season.

Too much commotion

Re: New players

Pretty much the level of signing we can expect now.

I don't really expect to be excited by any of the names we'll sign, as longs they get the job done.

Re: New players

Indeed. Its about building a TEAM. Anyone who thinks we are going to be signing the modern day equivalents of Maxwell, Shannon, Pressley, McKinnon, Bett, McQuilken, McSwegan, Coyle etc at a cost of about £2 million when we are in a lower league needs to get real.

Re: New players

Yep that's exactly it, boys like thon Murdoch would do a job in the league we are now in and won't take a big wage.

We all ready have the modern equivalent of Maxwell in Szormnick both goalkeeper imposters. Any new signings need to be physical players, if we remain soft touches we will remain in Division 1.

Don't think anyone expects us to do that LAO.

After the season we've just had it would be nice to get in one or two signings who get you excited about the coming season again.

And they needn't be expensive.

I'm talking about the type of excitement you felt when we signed Sergio or Jerren Nixon (2000 went to a reserve match to see his debut for example).

If we can get one or two exciting, imaginative signings mixed in with your experienced journeymen like Murdoch then I'll be happy enough.

Re: New players

That's the thing TEK there are people who are expecting us to sign top players. Have you read some of the white from these dreamers on social media?

Frightening the amount who don't realise we are in a bad situation and think we have the championship won.
