Genuine question.
Would Mixu have got Raith to 4th in the Championship this season?

No trying to be negative about Ray on purpose (cos i like the guy).
But is that really that great an achievement?
They finished 6th in 14/15 just as he took over.In a league with Hearts,Hibs and Rangers.
So yes there has been progress. But it's been steady as opposed to spectacular imo.
The best Manager in the Division is Houston for me.

we will see next season who the best manager is! Hopefully it's McKinnon , let's see what he can do with a very good championship budget rather than what raith are giving him

Indeed we will mate.
And i certainly hope it's Ray.
But if rumours are to be believed our playing budget might be on a par with Raith's next season.

It's a very good budget from what I've heard mate, for championship anyway

Mixu would've battered fuck out of all the young laddies then replaced them with a group of ex-Premiership players scouted from a video from season 2003-04.

I have a good feeling about McKinnon, no real reason why though. I know everybody is going on about the ex-player thing not working but that doesn't bother me.

I will back anybody who comes in no matter what. Time will tell if hes good enough, ex player or not.

I'm starting to come around to the idea.
Wary due to our record of ex players managing but surely that bad spell cant last forever?
He's apparently scored higher than any other scottish coach to attend Largs for their badges - that is a pretty special achievement.
As a current Raith player said, he is a thinker. He thinks about the opposition and his man-management skills are the best he's ever seen.
Everyone knows their jobs (something last 2 managers failed to instill in the players).
Our previous two managers have been stubborn and refused to change style or formation regardless of previous games or suchlike. If Ray's the type to actually go horses for courses and set up to play to weaknesses and against strengths then I'm happy with that.
FWIW id have him in the stands for next two games. Dont let him be part of the last 18 months.

Nice summation WeeDude, pretty much how I feel.

Also forgot to add, he will know a hell of a lot about the league, that has to be a bonus.

Spot on Wee Dude, the main (but not only) negative people seem to have with him is that he's an ex player.
I think he'll do really well IF he comes, however I don't think he's guaranteed to do so, it's a risky time to come to United and he's on to a very good thing at a very stable Raith.

Lets face it every appointment is a gamble and we are no in a position to be louring the finest managers in the land.
All we can hope for is he comes in and is the right fit at the right time. Mixu was an international manager with a fair bit of SPFL experience but it just wasn't right from the start, CL came in after being badly dented in England and turned out to be maybe the finest manager we have had since Sir James of the McLean.
McKinnon is very much in favour with the SFA in terms of he is the main man when it comes to tutoring the UEFA B and A Licences which he is passing and failing some of the current SPFL managers on their coaching ability.
If he does come in then he will get my 100% backing.

If he puts a couple of wingers on the park, that'll be fine by me.

Me too. A decent centre half wouldn't go amiss either.
Offline
It's the centre half issue for me, look at the top teams, they are built on a couple or powerhouse centre halfs that would boot the shit oot of their grannies to keep a clean sheet.
Agree we are desperate for an injection of pace in the wide areas as we are so narrow it's too easy to play against.

Is he the man to take us forward? Who the fuck knows?!
Think we are due some form of success from a United returnee though.
Offline
An awful awful Manager who is out of his depth.
I would rather have given Gordon Young a chance or even kept fucking Mixu and spent the hundreds of thousands of ensuing compo on Mixu/Young/McKinnon on strengthening the team.
One fuck-up after another.
The buck for this gross mismanagement stops with one man and regardless of whether or not he sells-up or not anytime soon he should be forced to step down in his role as Chairman.
He simply can't be trusted to make the big day to day decisions that is required of a a Dundee United Chairman.
