Strangely, I think John Rankin will get a chance at the job.

I'd be happy with that, unproven though he undoubtedly is. I think he would bring fresh ideas to a jaded and somewhat dispirited team. His energy and enthusiasm would certainly make a welcome change. Watching his interview on TV I thought he'd fit the bill.

None of my three choices make your shortlist Tek - Badger, O'Neill and Levein.

Whether any of them would be interested is another matter!

We have had many deficiencies in our team this year but totally agree with you there Mario the passing ability particularly of Rankin really is appalling, the amount of times he receives the ball with no opposition player near him and just hooks it over his shoulder is criminal. He then goes and closes down the player he has just gifted possession to and gets plaudits for his work rate.

correct theres so much deadwood in our squad, most need to leave and yeah rankin has been a good player for us but he has to go in my opinion just is not good enough anymore as for the people wanting him as manager, get real aye

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

Voted for An Other.

Maist managers are not a repeat success and ex players top yer thoughts over some but that has been a disaster over the years.
Hoping there's mair to vote for tbh.

Feel for Mixu as he cares about United and gave me good memories before but relieved that a change has happened.

Hard to know what he might have done with his own team as the squad he took on are a unique bunch of talented pretenders on oor good money and the signings he made had to be out of contract players.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

We're hardly an attractive proposition for an established successful manager with a sound CV, there's bigger gigs ( and money ) out there.

A big name from England, not very likely.

Hopefully not from the unemployed ex managers section in the yellow pages - Butcher, McLiesh, Calderwood etc.

So that leaves the ex-players, not convinced with that prospect, or taking a punt on an up and coming manager who's still to have his purple patch as a manager.

Not thinking that there's a long list of contenders there but surely the board should have been looking at the bigger picture over last year and not just hitting the big red panic button this afternoon .

Save your skin Stephen and pull out an ace and play it.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

Fuck knows tbh, I'm far more concerned about getting rid of most of the playing squad.

We've went from a drip of a manager who was pals with everyone to a brute of a manager who scared everyone and the result was the same.

What McKinnon has achieved with each of his incrementally bigger teams in junior, part time then full time Scottish football shouldn't be discounted because he is an ex player.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

I am thinking Yogi. Like his passion, has done superbly at Snecky and is an interesting enthusiastic geezer.

2nd McKinnon but wary of a slightly less experienced young manager. Maybe a bit too early for Ray.

3rd McCall

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

McCall for me wanted him the last time so time to knuckle down ST and appoint an experienced manager and stop this ex player merry go round

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

None of the above.  I want a manager who isn't part of the bookies 'go to' list every time a managers job comes up.
Anyone wanting Rankin need to consider he is a part of the current team that is plagued with a loser mentality.  Is he going to be able to shake that thought process easily? We need fresh blood, a new way of thinking and possibly even someone who has no previous connection with United. Who that is, I don't know, but we need to make sure this next appointment is bang on the money or we could be fucked for quite a while.

Oooooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaah!!

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

To be clear, I don't want Rankin, but mention that he may get a chance in terms of flinging his hat in the ring, and getting a token interview.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

I know I'm on Class A drugs but I'd like ST to bring back Housty. If Falkirk don't go up and ST can make peace with the man then he'd do the job well.
I don't want any untried glamour pusses - only disaster lies down that road

I actually wouldn't mind Houston back, although there is that thing of never going back, has a manager ever done well when going back to a former club?

Same here. I'm not desperate for him to get the post (McCall for me) but would be prepared to accept him if appointed.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

I voted for Houston as well.

Slateford - there are a few examples of managers who did well second time. Walter Smith at Rangers, Nigel Pearson at Leicester, Howard Kendall at Everton, Billy McNeil at Celtic, Jose Mourinho at Chelsea all had some success. There are also many managers who struggled second time

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

Ray McKinnon is the easy, cheap option. No doubt that's who he will go for.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

I think we need a back-to-basics, no nonsense manager. Someone with the common sense to start the season with an experienced keeper, defenders who know how to defend and flexibility to play whatever system/team will perform best in any given situation.

Is that rocket science?

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

It can't be McKinnon he's completely untested really at full time football and he's also never had any adversity to draw on either.

It has to be a proper experienced manager like Hughes McCall Mcleish etc

Yeah - this job is about more than putting out a decent 1st eleven . There's clearly underlying issues at the club that need sorted and I don't think RM is the answer. Perhaps if there is a senior DoF overseeing...? At one point I would have loved Walter Smith in that role but he's turned out to be a right old bitter, bigoted, Hun wank.

The latter 2 would be dream appointments but ain't happening mate.

Badger is quite an intriguing prospect, but is a bit of an unknown quantity in Management and he's also a former player of course.

And personally i'm a bit sick of us appointing players i loved at Utd and then ultimately my regard for them being soured somewhat due to their failure in the Dug-out.

Kirkwood,Luggy,Heggy,Brewster,Mixu....it just never seems to work for some reason.

Mixu had both of these things in abundance and flopped.

Stuart McCall couldn't get The Rangers out of the Championship.

Re: Who do you want as new Utd Boss?

Ray McKinnon made 2 player changes and also changed his formation there. Sub puts them 1-0 up and other sub nearly scores.
