Stumbled upon this match during a Youtube splurge and it instantly (and painfully) took me back nearly 30 years and reminded me just how shocking i found it at the time.
I had seen Utd lose cup Final's and other games but this game below i remember thinking WTAF is going on?and felt like i'd been punched in the guts.
And i wasn't even at it!!
I was instead in the wee town of Strathaven with my parents and brothers and had heard on the wireless on the drive there that St.Mirren had taken the lead and was surprised, shocked, and frankly bloody appalled.
But just before we got out the car on arrival i was somewhat placated by the news that Maurice Malpas had equalised for Utd.
I then spent a rather boring and pointless bit of time traipsing around their high street with my parents where i all i could think of was events at Tannadice and was anxious at the fact i never knew the score and the game would now be about finishing.
Walked into John Menzies with my old man and they had the wireless on Radio Clyde (you wouldn't get away with that now) and they went to a 'goal flash' at Tanndice....my heart raced........4-1 to St.Mirren!!.I couldn't actually believe what i was fucking hearing.
For younger Arabs out there you have to understand that Dundee Utd just didn't lose 4-1 at home back then to teams..(though admittedly St.Mirren had always proved a tricky nut to crack for us).
Anyway...nowadays like us all i am almost accustomed to such humilations and almost (almost) passe about it all.But back then my young 9 year old heart was breaking.
What was the first Utd game you witnessed and thought WTF is happening here like or were shocked to the core by the manner of the scoreline?

September 71. Dundee beat us 6-4. 1st time in about 5 years I think we got beat by Dundee. At least it was at Dinge Park.

I'd forgotten the St. Mirren game and that was a real shocker but this immediately sprang to mind when I saw the thread
