He would have got a pay off for mutual consent which is a joke as he should have been sacked

TBH mate, I don't think he will have, he as good as resigned when he picked that ball up. then again it is Utd we're talking about.

Glad he's been sacked.
But it sums the club up at the moment that no statement/reasons made.
Back to the 'Wall of Silence'.

I've read all I can find about the incident and what subsequently transpired. Across all the message boards posters condemn Gunning. But, to be fair, I wonder what his version would be? For example, what brought him to decide "Fuck it, I've had enough" ?
Certainly he has a dodgy temperament, no dispute there, but something must have triggered his action. Did he see himself victim of mismanagement? Was he calling to be subbied due to injury and felt he was being deliberately ignored?
Maybe we'll never know, but I hope Gunning at least has the opportunity somewhere to put forth his side of the story. It's all very well the club declaring the matter closed, but that is just typical of United's shut mouth policy, which treats the support like mushrooms.....

He hasnt been sacked he has left by mutual consent.
Where he should have been sacked for what he done he hasnt and has parted company taking a wedge as a pay off no doubt

Said before I don't like to slate individual players on football forums, but I made an exception for Gav, Mixu's worst signing out of a pile of recruitment follies. And unfortunately, Gunning stayed fit most of the time.
The lad is simple, and that's not his fault. Mixu and Gordan deciding to give him a deal, that's their fault.

The lack of any sort of explanation from Utd has left me on the brink of walking away from it. Utd have decided that the paying fans don't need to know what the fk went on. It's the latest in a long line of monumental fk ups from inside Tannadice.
Disgusting.
Season ticket sales will be an embarrassment for them.
Devastated at what's happened at the club since January 15.

Silver, seen a lot of people asking for an explanation from United, what would you expect them to say or Is It just the silence? They can't really say aye he's given up so we've punted him.

Why can't they say that? What the fk do we owe Gavin Gunning?
Mate, we witnessed one of our players stop and pick up the ball in the middle of play for no apparent reason. He then went over to the bench and said something, then decided he'd had enough. He effectively told the fans that he'd given up and put a massive 2 fingers up to every single one of us. To put the tin hat on it, he then gave his usual smug, retort by sarcastically applauding us.
I expect the club to give me some sort of explanation. I've had enough tbh. Totally disillusioned with Utd and Scottish football in general.

Rodge,
The club were quick to release a statement when those boys jumped on the track at Dingwall, using words like 'eliminate' to describe the clubs stance on their behaviour.
We were also quick to release a statement powering the entire playing squad and management when there was murmurings that Thompson was going to receive protests against him at the Hearts game.
Gunning rips the cunt out the club and the support and his contract termination is dressed up as a 'private matter'.
I find myself dismayed at just about everything the club do these days tbh.

There are employment laws about dismissals the club must abide by. I suspect the club would struggle to prove conclusively that he wasn't really injured when he went down. If thats the case Gunning could take us to the cleaners for unfair dismissal.
Given the Stevie Campbell situation, its probably a case of once bitten twice shy.

Spot on ocean everyone who was there on Saturday saw what happened. However the club can't come out say that and leave themselves open to claims of defamation and slander in the future. The club have done the best the could in this case

I take your point but as he only has about 5 weeks of his contract left I doubt the club would have got shafted in a tribunal too badly for stating he'd been released for breaching club discipline or whatever.
In any case he's gone.Of that I am glad. Not worthy of wearing the shirt.

He picked the ball up and cool as you like walked of the pitch. He was not injured. Now he has walked out the club with a bag o cash he shouldnt have

Watching the video again there is no way he could have won a tribunal, its obvious he just thought fuck this for a laugh.
The proof was his reaction to mixu then the fans, absolutely sickening to witness that from a united player

Not having a go bowers but how do you know he walked away with cash?
You've said it twice in this thread but I've not seen anything in the press which supports that. Even if he has been paid off, it's going to be about a months wages....

Mutual consent means a settlement
Sacked means out the door ASAP with an empty hipper

Whether he was injured or not, he shouldn't be picking a ball up and walking off, so not sure why the club would need to prove this. Fact is he walked off the job, breach of discipline (and a breach of contract) in any job, and there's nothing to stop the club saying he was sacked for a breach of club discipline. Or if it genuinely was mutual consent saying he has left the club due to both parties deciding that the working relationship was broken beyond repair.
Under none of those circumstances should he be walking away with his contract paid.

Mutual consent is the official line.. Which to me says something along the lines of.. hes been brought in his actions have been discussed and he has been told hes offski..heres what we are offering you to go now.
He hasnt been sacked where he would have got fuck all which he deserved.

Maybe,
If it was me I'd have brought him in and said, u walked off the job, there's a pen and paper make your resignation official and we'll call it mutual consent, otherwise we're gonna sack you very publically, making you out to be the arsehole u are, good luck with any future career if you choose that route, you'll need it.

I'd be pretty certain he's been sacked!

Stuff on Twitter saying Mixu wanted keep GG and he would've been in the team Sat. It was ST who pulled rank seemingly.
Personally, in the (unlikely) event this rumour has a shred of truth to it, I'd be sacking the person who keeps leaking all this stuff out of Utd. That place has more leaks than the Titanic.
Anyway, you never know, maybe Mixu will resign as well. That would be a pretty good day all in all.

If, on the official site the communication states this:
Gavin Gunning has left Dundee United by mutual consent. This is a private matter and the Club will not make any further comment.
then why is Mixu making 'further comment'?
It's another example of United fucking things up.

COULD, Gunning himself have asked to leave rather than him being sacked??? Lets face it his position with the fans was clearly untenable.
