Best Comeback Songs

Bands/Singers that have either went AWOL or just not hit the mainstream for years since their first big breakthrough, and came back with songs that have either matched or surpassed their earlier work.

Starter for three....

Duran Duran
Peaked in 1985 with Wild Boys, View to a Kill etc. Came back 8 years later with this song.

Dr Dre
Peaked in 1992 after post NWA split and with his first solo album the Chronic. Came back 7 years later with this song.

Johnny Cash
Peaked arguably in the early 60's (Ring of Fire was '63 and I Walk the Line and Folsom Prison Blues were both '57). Came back 40 years later(!) with this song just a few months before he died.

Re: Best Comeback Songs

Love that Johnny Cash video and song. What a life he had.

Little know fact, Johnny Cash was obsessed with his Scottish Ancestry. His ancestral name originated in Fife and he regularly visited and done concerts for the locals.

Both pictures below were taken in 1981.

Can anybody guess where it was taken?
Hint: Both myself and Arabnophobia lived just 10 minutes away when we were young.

Bonus Question: Who is the fine singer who is also accompanying Mr Cash?

According to Mrs Scarpia it's Andy Williams.

Well done Mrs Scarpia!

It is indeed Andy (Moon River, Impossible Dream) Williams!

Love that guy's voice.

Re: Best Comeback Songs

The greatest band that ever was out the game for over 25 years, main songwriter and cultural icon John Lennon no longer with us...but brought back him and the band back from the grave with these gems.Pretty sure 'Free As A Bird' is the first song and only song they ever recorded where John,Paul and George all sang a verse each.

Sorry about the poor quality of sound in the tracks.Apple have taken just about every Beatles track recorded, live or bootleg off of Youtube.Pure pish

Re: Best Comeback Songs

Aerosmith
Peaked first in the mid 70's with Dream On & Walk This Way.

10 years later singer Steven Tyler and lead guitarist Joe Perry appeared on this record, a cover of their own song, that introduced this band to the MTV generation.

Just watched Young Frankenstein for the umpteenth  time last Thursday. Some great lines in in...... but that one was older than the original Frankenstein legend.

Not a fan of Take That, but my wife was delirious when they came back with 'Patience' in 2006.

My contribution is Santana with 'Smooth'.

Band was formed in the 'sixties, but were deemed by many to be unfashionable by the late 'eighties. Looked it up, their album previous to that on which 'Smooth' appeared peaked at number 102, but Supernatural was number one LP in the UK, USA, Australia, Germany............... everywhere.
