Jackie's squad building

Feel this needs a thread on it's on.

Despite the fact we are top of the league i am concerned at the inequality of resources we have in the squad currently.

1 natural Left back.Dillon has covered adaquately (sp) sure, but he doesn't get forward at all and overlap the LM as your LB is required to do in a 4-3-2-1.

2 forwards.Since January we have dispensed with the services of 4 forwards (Goodwillie,El Alagui,Graham and Gardyne) and brought in 1 (Bilate) who never seems to be 100% fit.

Other teams like St.Johnstone often have the resources to boost their squad when required to do so.

We have brought in 5 million in transfer fee's this Summer, yet we are having to bring on a completely untried 19 year old last night who has barely even featured for the Developement team.

Why is that ?

1.Poor Squad building fae Jackie
2.ST being grippit
3.To much money being spent elsewhere and not going towards the first team ?

or

4.Don't see a problem ?

I am quite convinced we will have the 3rd biggest budget in the Premiership so i'm going for 1)Poor squad building fae Jackie.

Graham should not have been let go 'just cos he wasn't happy',or not until we had someone else 100% lined-up.

Thoughts fae you Gentlemen ?

Disagree we you slightly about Dilton TEK. Think he does get forward sometimes.

Think the answer to your "Why is that" question is "Because we really dinna have any other chunt". Unless that is you give a chance to Tumilty,  John Garden, Adeyemo or Aaron Duke, which is what Jackie did.

leaves him with shifty..bilate...possibly erskine and two under 21's for one slot until january

Re: Jackie's squad building

Think the reality of the transfer deals is that we haven't brought in anywhere near 5 million in the summer tho.  If we had then we would have over 1 million in the bank with ALL debt gone, ST has said that the banks are paid off , but it's also been stated (privately, not sure if publicly) that there is still debt there to some of the investors.  Can only take from that, that the money is being drip fed to the club in staged payments.

I would be happy with a striker in and no one else TBH, but if more come then all the better, as long as their worth a starting place, not into this buying squad players unless they're young and  hungry to get going in the game.

As for  the Brian Graham issue, I have some sympathy for the boy, didn't get a chance from our support, he's not nearly as bad as was made out.  Looks like it was a fall out with the gaffer that led to there being no way back.  Wouldn't really be a problem if Ciftci wasn't a huffy big cunt, who only takes a game when he can be arsed, BTW that should come as no surprise to anyone as he's been that way from day one.

The left back ones an obvious problem with Robertson away, but the fact is the team may be playing the same formation, but are set up slightly differently, with not so much emphasis on full backs pushing on and being tighter at the back.  With that being the case think 4-1-4-1 may be needed at times instead of 4-2-3-1.

Lastly we're missing the wee genius Gauld more than anyone's realised I think, and for me were also missing Souttar who can start things from the back, the current 2 can defend, but they've not got that passing instinct into feet of strikers to start attacks.  Souttar beside Fojut for me when he's fit.

Re: Jackie's squad building

Heard Graham scored again today but it was unfairly chopped aff.

My view is that JMac keeps signing forwards who are actually decent players (Goodie,El Alagui,Graham) but his insistence on only playing 1 upfront is hindering them being a success.

They go elsewhere, play with a partner, and lo and behold start scoring goals.

Nadir is the only guy who can play upfront on his own with any degree of success.Nights like last night when he is getting next to no service and is getting marked out the game he gets mega frustrated, and i can understand why tbh.

Re: Jackie's squad building

Agree we are missing Gauld btw.Said as much a few days ago on another thread.

He played that free role just behind Ciftci very well imo.

Re: Jackie's squad building

Pretty much agree, re the strikers signed.

Said it before, we signed Goodie and Graham last summer, both good in a pair and neither that great as a lone striker, and ready made replacements for Daly and Russell, then played 1 up front all season.  For me it turned 2 good signings into 2 poor ones.

With Gauld, there was no hope of replacing him with anyone near as good, but think a lot of people underestimate how much of a loss he is.

Still think we'll qualify for Europe and that would be success, although I'd rather win a trophy, so all out on the cups for me.

Re: Jackie's squad building

Euro qualification is a must this season.

A top-flight without Rangers,Hibs + Hearts in it.Anything less than 3rd would be failure imo.

Sorry for belated reply TEK,  but think you could probably guess  my opinion that it's got to do with letting Midge and Graham go out on loan, something I admit I was not in favour of.

He had 2 in the net apparently.  1 for offside and another for foul on the keeper.
