Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

Getting this sent from Dundee to me this morning from 'The Courier' reminds me of the lesson it taught me, getting it read as a bairn fae my grandad that there is always two sides to every story.  The players obviously want the support United.......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henny_Penny

Mon United, let's do this.  20 more points!

My calculation is that there are 33 points to play for. We go for the lot!

"It wasn't a big deal"

There you go then, cheers for clearing that up Col. Was the end of the world to some.

TBF to folk here on TT, there wasn't much (anything?) complained about.

Re: Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

If "it wasn't a big deal" why did the players give the press the story?

Why wasn't the club already prepared to do everything possible to help them?

Why didn't Mixu go to the board and ask the club to help, or dos he and the board refused?

If the rumours are true about how much cash we're losing then it would only be 1 more days losses to pay for the squad to stay overnight anyway.

Ross co, ICT and Killie away should always be overnight stays, closer at hand games there's no need.

Re: Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

I'd certainly agree with you The Shed that those 3 locations (and Berwick, Dumfries and Stranraer) are pretty much the only "sleepover" days in Scotland.  With our average crowd etc, it is just not economically viable to be having Old Course Hotel sleepovers - that is just financial madness.

Anyway, we now have a life raft to swim to, so let's get there and climb aboard - all of us!!!

The Old Course carry on was a shambles.  But going completely the other way to save some cash is equally as bad.  There's a lot of other ways the club can save money, without having a negative impact on the players chances

Re: Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

The players aren't going to these grounds in the back of an old fiesta - have you seen the bus (kawashima team pic shows it - big leather seats and tables etc).

I'd rather spend the night in my own bed than to stay over in a room with a bed you aren't used to...especially if you are sharing with somebody else - what if they snore? What if they are restless etc.

There's no need for stay overs for most grounds. Fear the anti ST camp will just pic at anything the club does.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

What surprises me is that there seems to have been a blanket policy. As folk have said there are some obvious locations that would merit an overnighter. I would say anywhere that takes over 2 hours by road would be an adequate limit. Not rocket science.

Have you ever tried to play after sitting on a bus for over 3hrs that morning, doesn't matter how comfy the seats are.

You said it yourself "most grounds" Dingwall isn't in that category.

Re: Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

This is really much ado about nothing.
The club would have got it in the neck here either way.
They stay over, people question why as we're losing money.
They dont stay over, club slated because we aren't doing everything we can to survive.

These boys are athletes, They are far better equipped to sit on a coach for a few hours to arrive HOURS before kick off and be ready, physically to play a game.

Its not like me or you who get out a car after 3 hours and take a good hour to shift the stiffness... lol.

The whole point is they are athletes, sitting in a coach for 3hrs has a bigger effect on a well tuned body.

Again if it's much ado about nothing, why did the players give the press the story?

I'd disagree. Id say a well tunes body would be better at coping & recovering than an average joes.
There's no way of knowing why they gave the press the story. Id hazard a guess that after the revelations of our 800k loss, a reporter (who's job is to create a story) asked if the club paid for them to stay over or not?
Maybe the players raised the story to try and show unity/togetherness/how much they cared?

There are other ways of looking at this than a negative way.

Re: Henny Penny / Chicken Licken

We need to stay up - to that we need to give ourselves the best opportunities. One of which is making sure that the players are at their peak. So it's a no brainer that they should stay overnight instead of travelling 3 hours on a bloody bus !!
And that should be part of the budget - if not get rid of the Fat Cats cos they aint doing there job properly !!

There's other ways of looking of course, but then there's the real reason.

The only negative thing in this whole story is the club not giving its own players the best chance to keep the club up.

Now if we got pumped 3-0 and the board had spunked money on an overnight stay.......  ????

Aye that's right, ST is sitting at Tannadice,  lighting a cigar with a burning 20 quid note, pishing his breeks at the players unfolding themselves oot the back o the berry bus and hoping we get relegated.

Utter pish. Also it's been said this has been a season long thing - so presumably at the start of the season where we all still hoped for a turnaround in fortunes.

These are professional athletes who will have hours prior to the game to loosen off after  bus journey with professional coaches and presumably a lunch somewhere too

And if the side effect of this is the players don't feel like pampered prima donnas, then all the better because frankly, for the most part of the season they have not acted like the professionals they are meant to be.

I'd say (this is not leveled at 1 poster but in general,), if we want to save this season from being an abject disaster, we need to put it behind us. Things are looking rosier than they did a few weeks back - we have been succeeding where others have been failing (which is the opposite of what we had for the rest of the season). The players look much more capable. The back 3/4/5 look more solid. The midfield has dig and creativity and we are burying a good few more chances from set pieces - an area we were previously very bad at.

There can be a lot to look forward to and we should grab the oppertunity and back the club as best we can
