Biggest week of the season

The next 7 days from tomorrow will define our season.

County away back to back weekends in the league and Cup with Aberdeen at home sandwiched inbetween.

The squad must be utilised fully and EVERY player must step-up and bring their A-game to these games.

This week will either see us still in with a chance at survival and a trip to Hampden to look forward too, or facing the worst case scenario of season over in early March.

Mon The Terrors.

Draw then loss then win.

Re: Biggest week of the season

Love to think we'd still be in with a shout at both, but as longs we're still in the cup I'll be relatively happy.

Re: Biggest week of the season

If we win the two league games I couldn't give a fuck about the cup game.

Re: Biggest week of the season

I'd take two league wins and a cup exit

Re: Biggest week of the season

We've won 5 trophies in 107 years.

Can't understand any supporter who doesn't value the chance of a trophy over staying up.

Re: Biggest week of the season

I'd prefer the club to live to fight another day rather than win a cup then sink without a trace in Division Fun.

Re: Biggest week of the season

Normally I would fully agree with TheShed's point, and if you could guarantee the cup win I would gladly accept relegation but right now a win in the cup would put us in the semi, likely with Celtic, Rangers and Hibs, so we'd have little chance of progressing.

So right now if I had to chose I would take two league wins and a cup exit as it would bring us closer to safety.

Winning the 2 league games guarantees nothing either tho.

Let's just dream we can do both.

Re: Biggest week of the season

We have a more realistic chance of winning the cup than staying in the league. Cup game is the biggest of the 3.

Re: Biggest week of the season

Winning the next two league games would give us a real fighting chance of staying up, we have zero chance of lifting the scottish.....

Re: Biggest week of the season

I would say us staying up or winning the cup are about as likely as each other. We probably have to win 8 games to stay up, but only 3 to win the cup. It's all about the opposition though

Depends how you look at it.

We've won 5 trophies in the last 37 years (a pretty good haul in that timeframe). Why? because we were a strong enough Premier League outfit (bar 1 season) to be competing in finals and winning some of them.

We won fuck all in the previous 60 years.  Why? because for most of that we were a poor team that bounced around the lower leagues.

Dropping down the to lower leagues is no platform for winning things and getting to finals regularly especially in our fragile state financially and confidence wise at the moment.  There is no guarantee of us getting straight back up and the likelihood would be us spending years down there and being unable to compete in finals and semis regularly.  Christ the last time we went down we spent the best part of £2 million to get back up and even then still needed a play-off.

If we won the cup this season it would be amazing.   But to me it would be a bonus. Staying up is the priority still whilst there is any chance of us doing so, as difficult as it may seem.  Regroup in the summer with top league money and an overhaul of the playing staff then have a proper crack at the cups next season.

Re: Biggest week of the season

Football is about winning trophies, we can't and won't ever win the league, so to me the cups are the real games every season.

If/when we go go down it'll be shit, no doubt about that, and we may not bounce straight back, but we will bounce back within 3 years at least. finances will have been sorted, there will be no choice to that, and we'll start challenging in cups again. I'll take that with a cup win anytime, before floating about in the bottom half of the prem, getting knocked out in QFs of every cup.

Reality is we'll go down and not win the cup, but whatever your preference is we've got to hope for something positive to finish this season.

Re: Biggest week of the season

Very, very big week, but the biggest weeks, for me, will be post split.

Think and hope yer right bud. Looking for us and the big teams playing our relegation rivals to win and  score plenty goals to keep us up.

If we can get to the split with a fighting chance the support will be exceptional in every game. Numbers, noise and visuals will give us an advantage whilst rivals panic more than they have so far.
Just hope we can keep in their until then.
Fans might have a big part to play in support and intimidation.

Ffs. Celtic get a harsh red card, miss a penalty then Hamilton equalise.

We are fucked.

Re: Biggest week of the season

Hopefully Hamilton have used up their luck now. 11 points behind Killie and 12 behind Well with a game in hand on both. Hamilton now have a 13 point advantage but have played 2 more.

In all my years supporting United I've believed whether it's works for us or not the luck will almost balance out. We are not dead yet and I think out of the 3 we are up against we are due more from here on.
Nothing has changed with the 2 above us tonight. Hellish result but does not make us doomed more than we are already.
